there's a lottery game in Brazil where you choose animals called "jogo do bicho" which is simmilar to lottery, each 4 numbers are animal, not fully sure
these are forbidden by law too (only the official government lottery is allowed) but not hard to find in the streets.

each country has its rules and of course some things should be forbidden, but many times  they make regulations out of stupidity, that hurt more than help.
As long they can get revenue or benefits from it then it wouldnt matter if it does hurt or make regulations out of stupidity, there nothing we can do.

Lots of places in the world have some odd laws which might seem not usual or not normal in the eyes in most people but it cant be helped because decisions and laws made were final.

We can give out criticisms but nothing could be changed.

Because sometimes it is already their way of life, like from their tradition or culture. We can't judge them based from how we brought up as around the world, we have so many differences at how we look at things. It may be cruel in our eyes, but for them, just a natural one. So every place has their own judgment what is right or wrong when it comes to this aspect.

Here in our country cockfighting and any gambling related which assembles people in a certain area due to pandemic were highly prohibited but the nature of people and as a gambler no regulations hinder what the call of gambling is. Gambling were already part of the lives of gambler and the government couldn't control it by just reading its regulations. But look what other country's do to gambling today, they supported it for it become their source of income from the taxes that they have collected from gambling.

I heard that cockfighting is a popular traditional gambling game available in some countries. And even if we are still at this pandemic, people will still bet on cockfighting secretly. The government can not do anything except to try to warn them not to gather in crowded places. The number of people who get infected will be increased if people do not realize the danger of being crowded at the same time in gambling places, and they can get double loss, which is losing their money and losing their health because infecting the virus.

best argument on that is that drugs are illegal in many countries and people keep on using, buying and selling them, so ethereumhunter is right

it's interesting because this post also sparks discussions on how there's a line on where the government power can't reach.
they can change and twist incentives (making some forbidden or allowed), but this doesn't mean they'll be able to erradicate things.

Yeah, even if the government is trying to eradicate it by making regulations on illegal things, it will not stop people from using it because that will relate to many things. We see the drug dealer, the casino, the user and the other business still use that thing, and that will not just for the drug or casino, but that will also for the other illegal things that we know. We knew that some government officers already get bribed by the owner, and it will not be hard to find the people who want to get more money from the illegal things. It is really a big problem that like a time bomb in the future.

Without this high capital inflow from other countries I would be hard to sustain such high gambling rates.

I agree countries with good economy and its people making a good income are likely to be on top of the list, Australia is a rich country so it is very much qualified.
Maybe the list might change differently if everythings back to normal. Once the pandemic is contain I think more gamblers will go to casinos or even playing online once the economy boost again and everyone has got their jobs back. I thought that US would top on the list but maybe in few years after recovery they might claim the right rank.
Yes, it should change but the pandemic is here to stay a bit longer than expected. After it is contained still the dear of it will stop gamblers to go out in public places. It would take some time for everything to be normal.

Even if gambling is illegal in China, that doesn't mean people in that country will stop gambling. As we know that gambling is part of people's lives, they will try to gamble in a hidden place like what we heard or watch on the television. But I am sure that the number of people who gamble in the other country will be bigger too, but the media do not expose the number.

AS what I have seen in the article I've read and I believe the source of OP: article, Australia could really be the rank one at biggest countries that gamble the most. Why? Because it provides all kinds of entertainment starting from slots, cards, betting, and lotteries.
The article that you have mentioned was last 2019 and we gonna expect changes this time especially when the pandemic started. It possible more people are making online has gambling habits. And as I keep searching online, there is no latest result about which country is taking the lead because it probably not Australia anymore, or somewhat coming from the US.
But still, those countries that are accustomed to gambling are very likely to have higher levels of gambling during the pandemic, it is unlikely that countries that are not accustomed to gambling will increase in gambling so fast. Even though with the pandemic I'm sure the changes won't be significant, rank one, two or maybe three, I think it's the same because it's still in the top rankings and that's not a problem with the data because it's proven that several sources give different results too.

Exactly, it doesn't mean that the data was gathered a year past we can't just utter that these weren't reliable already or fitted to what the current ranking of top countries in gambling. These countries were already a good country for gambling and this pandemic i guess will just make a big impact to boom the economy of gambling at that certain point. It is a big impact for the community of gambling that despite of pandemic the economy of gambling still operated and alive via online.

Because it provides all kinds of entertainment starting from slots, cards, betting, and lotteries. In addition, Australia is also not imposing any tax on the winnings of the gambler, so it is the main factor that pushes gamblers to play as they can freely celebrate their winnings without thinking about the taxes. Talking about the top 10 which is Spain, the difference they have from Australia is that, not all games are loved in Spain, they love to play Sports Betting, but not the slots even though gambling is fully legalized in their country.

i think the first chart is more accurate because they dont list china but on the second chart they list china and it place on the second spot but faik china has a strong restriction when it comes to gambling within thier country but i heard that china or chinese is the number one supplier of gambling machines in most parts of the world and they also run and own a gambling business outside .
Indeed, that is also what I am thinking, Gambling in China is illegal, any form of gambling, such as online gambling and casino gambling is considered illegal so I am wondering why China includes in the 2nd rank of countries that gambling the most, wherein the law for that things is really restricted. Maybe it is all about those people in China who gambling in a secret place or a little gambling in the street because gambling is still popular even though it is illegal.

Maybe what is meant by "China" is the entire parts of China, including Hong Kong and Macau. Although these two regions are special administrative regions with the highest degree of autonomy, but both of them are still part of China (People's Republic of China).

If what is meant by china includes Macau and Hong Kong, then it is certain that China will also be included in the list of countries with the biggest gambling losses.

Maybe right. The article generalized it as "CHINA".

Macau is a gambling haven for gamblers and 50% of the country's revenue came from the gambling industry.

In HongKong, the largest taxpayer also came from the gambling industry there.

gambling activities are very active.

Once they've got enough money to spare, there are lots of gamblers who will proceed and comeback to this activities.

It may change. The economy of most countries are in recovery phase and in gambling industry, there's no physical appearance but those that allows only gambling can take advantage of the situation.
There will be for sure many gamblers would like to go back in the casinos if their areas has been not allowed to go everywhere if the activities they'll do are not essentials.

indeed observing gambling habits according to estimated payroll dates is an interesting strategy

number of hours spent on the casino per week may be a good metric to keep an eye on as well.

I have been curious about these, trying to know exactly the countries of the world where gambling is more. I don’t live in any of the country’s but I have Always known Australia as the hotspot for gambling.
Likewise me too but what i know about the list is: Australia is not just a poor country like ours but rich country, so, see them staying on top of the list not a surprised to me. Also, we shouldn't forget that some other countries were gambling is be banned and monitored by government might be involved in using VPN which could equally contribute to this top list of gambling countries IMO.
