Why the country of Australia is the top 1 in the gambling is they have a lot of gambling casino and gamblers?
USA is always in the rank in the gambling because they really like to play gambling.
I hope Op will update this thread for the year 2021 so we can see the list of the countries who is gambling the most.

I am sure the list will be changed this year, especially because many countries still have the same problem facing the pandemic that still not end. I think the casino will limiting their place for their members, and maybe they will strict people who come to their place because the situations are not too safe for them. It is not about making money from the business, but maybe it is how the casino can apply the health protocol in their place to try to make money from the gambling business.

Without this high capital inflow from other countries I would be hard to sustain such high gambling rates.

I agree countries with good economy and its people making a good income are likely to be on top of the list, Australia is a rich country so it is very much qualified.

I have been curious about these, trying to know exactly the countries of the world where gambling is more. I don’t live in any of the country’s but I have Always known Australia as the hotspot for gambling.
I guess the OP posted link was didn't updated because the author wrote in 2017.

On this link that wrote in the year 2020, https://earthnworld.com/top-world-gambling-countries/ the top 7 worlds gambling countries are:
1. AUSTRALIA
2. ITALY
3. CHINA
4. SINGAPORE
5. THE USA
6. MONACO
7. UNITED KINGDOM

This means that Australia remains on the top and yes, that country is the hotspot for the gambling industry.

That would be hard.

Doesn't mean that they are spending more on gambling in a month means that person is already an addict. These gamblers who just bet for fun and leisure have these times where they are so thrilled to gamble and because of that, spend an amount higher than the bets they are doing the other months. It is random since this usually depends on their mood.

Gamblers with addiction will definitely play in a month to its fullest, of course, they cannot be separated. Even with a monthly salary they can run out of what they do, but that is not appropriate because if it is just for fun it can be on a weekend when on vacation. not so then it can be measured from the monthly even if it is recorded, you can count how many times you gamble in a month.

But still gambling cannot be separated from ourselves whenever we will always check it and place bets so that with control we can overcome it without waste.

quite interesting kotajikikox, yes the data is probably about live cassinos since online cassinos wouldnt have a real reason to limit theirselves to one country only and it'd probably be hard to get the data that is not publicy shared.

regarding the disposable income, you have a point, but still people need access to money to be able to gamble. probably ha some degree of correlation with disposable income.

how would you try to measure gamblers "for fun", addicts and semi-addicts?

In my opinion the best way to measure gamblers based on their addictions would be to look at inter monthly data. An addict can't really control his gambling habits and is usually constrained by his bankroll. So at the beginning of a month there should be a lot of semi addicts and full gambling addicts who just hit their salary and will be eager to gamble. Later on the months I would assume most of the turnover is being generated by gamblers who play for fun and leisure.

That would be hard.

I think every casinos or gambling sites has their own databases wherein each players profile can be seen the amount they are invested, the amount they will withdrawn. And I think the reason why they can make a list of that is because somehow gambling sites needed to share at least their top countries I think, and their best player, I'm not sure with this but we all know tat gambling is being regulated by government as well so the fact that it is publicly shown maybe because they let the public knew it.

interesting that statistics subject came into the discussion

some things to consider when comparing big populations is that gross value will be different than % value.
only because a country makes to the top of the list on total amount of money gambled it doesn't mean that % of population that gambles is bigger.
That's the Point ,the statistic only rates the spending/numbers of Adult..What about the Youngsters ?and are this only for Live casino? what about the Online gambling that surely teens are engaging secretly ?
it'd be interesting to observe studies on disposable income from country to country, this definitely will play a role on how available people are for activities like gambling too.
I think Disposable income computation will lower the digits here ,because gamblers tend to spend more than their allotted , meaning if they only have 100$ budget per night But they did not Get the pleasure they wanted ,then for sure another 100$ will be spent that same night.

What we need to stablish here is How much people desire to gamble and how many people are addicted ,semi addicted and responsible gamblers.

Australia seems to have good wages because of their population but thats not the reasn why most people in the Australia like to gamble. However, gambling seem to be vital part of Australian society from the early days and thats the reason why they have more game machine (which can be see almost everywhere) than any country in the world.
2double0, the link provided by the OP is outdated and i think US and China are the leading countries now.
If we will be talking about gambling as being a Vital Part ,then it must be Chinese because they seems to be One of the oldest Gambling Founding in the world, and also one of the oldest Civilization ever recorded .

So it is still the Wage that matters because even How they love gambling but if the funds are limited i don't think they will engaged more, and also  i believe that Gambling was Only Brought to AUstralia when the British Colony transported the Penal colony .

Quote
I dont know about Norway but Ireland is also among the country in the world that love gambling and they are mostly into the sport betting. But gambling is like a culture in Australia and it also generates good tax for their government and statistics show that 80% of Australian adult are into gambling
Actually talking about Culture and the percentage of adult that engaging in gambling ,it is from Asia ,because almost every individual and even kids are into gambling though wasnt recorded because the statistics based only in Casino attendance and not in Street gambling and illegal gambling ,things that most adults from asia plays to stay away from obligation in taxes and any sort of hindrances .

Australia's population is very limited compared to US and their per capita income is much better than any country in this world, so gambling those huge amounts in USD is not a big deal for Australians as they spend money so wisely, their wins pay off too. I am shocked USA is not in the list, though.
The Lower the People is the Higher the Wages , Australia Is one of the Highest Earning People in the world when talking about the Daily rate so no wonder how much each individuals Can spend in their gambling activities .

But this doesnt mean that they are the Most addicted gambler , Its just happen that the calculation is for smaller community compares to America and China that really has a Huge count of People.

That's a good take on the statistics. I think something similar can be said about Norway. Both Australia and Norway have a large amount of natural resources that can be sold over seas and generates a lot of wealth for the people living and working there. Without this high capital inflow from other countries I would be hard to sustain such high gambling rates.
Maybe because of their Views in life that the Country does not need More People ,but what they need is More Job and more advantages.

But still gambling is one of their leisure ,and we can't take it our from them.

I don't know whether the statistics on the opening post are accurate or not, what I do know is that Australia's natural resources can make
Australians prosperous. Because Australia does have quite abundant wealth, here means that the Australian population has a sizable income.
So it is possible that a large enough income can make some Australians seek entertainment by playing gambling. And without realizing it,
the demand for gambling  in Australia is quite high. If so, it is very possible that Australia is a country that has high gambling activity.

Australia was top 10 in the ranking for per capita income as viewed from this site and I guess it's not that surprising they may into the top list as well even Singapore. I was just amazed that the top 1 and 2 wasn't on the top list of countries that gambles the most even though they are from the European country. If we could see graphs or charts most country that gambles most was from Europe even what's represented by the OP.

That is kind of surprise to me. I didn't expect that European countries are so high on gambling list. Maybe I had wrong information or impression but I would always say that Asian countries are among those who gamble the most, like Singapore.
Although it makes sense because in many European countries people have high standard so they can put certain amount of money into gambling.

You wouldnt really be expecting if you do really basing up on status or standards of living between countries which you can presume that those rich ones will really be on the top list.

Well, there are really countries which are on mid tiers do really able to include in the ranks which is a bit surprising on surpassing those countries which are known when it comes to gambling
industry.

This kind of list wont really be that accurate though yet lots of things should be considered on having a precise tally about these stats.
I think population Australia for casino gambling is less and many Asian country have most interested with casino gambling, only Singapore looks as destination for gambling casino and still have any added travelling there only for casino gambling, Asian become most corrupt country right now and they try to make gambling casino how to clean money transaction without detected where are their money come from.

I really don't think it is a wise idea to gamble but I can say to this is that these people can really afford to lose their money. They use this to please their life without minding it if they lose or win, they got already what they wanted and that to make themselves enjoyed what they do. I think that was more important than being crazy chasing our losses to get back but in the end, we are making more losses to come than winning more.

They do have a previlege to gamble as much as they wanted and i believe that Australian people do know how to manage their gambling habits and for sure know how to wisely spend their money on gambling. It is quite amazing to know that Australia be the top country that gamble most as i've expecting that United States may be the top for as we all know US was a country that was so openly minded about gambling.
