Then... Could it mean that all consciousness is entangled with everything, thus everything is consciousness, not simply trapped in our brain? Maybe that vibration is how the instrument that is our brain is acting like a FM radio and that vibration is the frequency of reception?

That sounds right to me!

Since this man's mind did function without any brain, it is therefore proven that mind and brain are independent. It is mysterious to think of these two as separate, but this is only so under the paradigm of philosophical materialism, which must now be discarded. We must now admit that Consciousness drives evolution.

"Ultimately we need a global shift in thinking, in behaviour, away from the material and towards the spiritual, and in my view this study has the potential to help foment that."

It is more elegant and far easier to accept as a working hypothesis that sentience exists as a potential at the source of creation, and the strongest evidence has already been put on the table: Everything to be observed in the universe implies consciousness.

Louis Pasteur and many other eminent researchers thought that it was more probable that mind came before matter, and Hammeroff has presented evidence that feelings came before the brain.

Of course there can be life after "death"
We have material and energy but most important then that, we have conscience!

The conscience is stored in microtubules.

The Christians ( and not only) think conscience it returns to Creator.
The materialists ( as atheists or others) think nothing but even that they have conscience.

How do you know that?

If you take some quantum view, you might find that consciousness can entangle itself in most everything

Discovery of quantum vibrations in 'microtubules' inside brain neurons supports controversial theory of consciousness

Let a person die for an hour, see if he/she comes back.

Brain without oxygenated blood will be dead (or severely damaged) within 10 minutes.

Cell death is irreversible.

The exception I can think of is when someone 'drowns' in very cold water.  Usually a child with low body mass.  I've heard what seem to be fairly credible reports of long-ish periods of 'death' in such circumstances with a reasonable recovery.  I think I heard of a stow-away in a jet aircraft who achieved a similar result.  I'd point out though that someone who would climb into the landing gear of a jet liner probably didn't start out with a very high level of brain function in the first place.

If entropy uniformity doesn't change too drastically (e.g. H2O in blood et al. crystallizing and expanding when frozen), all it is is a slowing down of continuing metabolic processes.

The "Goldilocks" zone. Heh. Question for you guys: do you think if we observed one of those planets where life is just starting, that life would proceed in approximately the same way it theoretically did on Earth? Or would the life be fundamentally different perhaps? Would there be mammals, bacteria, viruses, amphibians, or something else completely? Given the environment is relatively the same.

many factors is on the line if life is ever to start on a planet that is in a Goldilocks zone.
even if the environment is the same to the in the planet in question.

The rate of living on other planets might also drastically be slower[/faster] than we can detect, implying that what we think is the Goldilocks zone is relative.

Pretty exciting stuff. Hey that just got me thinking, wouldn't it be awesome if the powers that be found a way to trap this consciousness/soul in the real world and use it as a spiritual battery of sorts?? Might not be that great for the person who died though to not be able to break free and find release even after death.
Oh but wait... the dead can't complain.. right babe??   Cheesy

That's the physicists explanation.
That was an scientific perspective.

From my perspective everything is clear  Wink ( I'm a Orthodox Christian, "low practitioner")
I don't have to prove my existence or my conscience.
Life continues after  material death but not in a material form, that's why many of us don't understand.
Remember that, conscience is our truth, There are stored our sins. That's  our soul.
No one can lie himself (his conscience)

So the conclusion of the study is that you might last a handful of minutes after your heart stops. I would assume that qualifies as death being postponed ever so slightly. Then your life ends.

“This is paradoxical, since the brain typically ceases functioning within 20-30 seconds of the heart stopping and doesn't resume again until the heart has been restarted. "

The largest ever medical study into near-death and out-of-body experiences has discovered that some awareness may continue even after the brain has shut down completely.

It is a controversial subject which has, until recently, been treated with widespread scepticism.

But scientists at the University of Southampton have spent four years examining more than 2,000 people who suffered cardiac arrests at 15 hospitals in the UK, US and Austria.

And they found that nearly 40 per cent of people who survived described some kind of ‘awareness’ during the time when they were clinically dead before their hearts were restarted.

Is this the same story? It was found to have some massive holes in it,just can not find where they debunked it! Angry

Will keep searching but its odd this study has resurfaced, wonder if its the same study done over or the study from back then.

You can always tell "studies" like these are pushing some kind agenda instead of what real science does, which is looking for the truth whatever it may be.  Instead of explaining the results in a rational way, they immediately jump towards the less likely answer.  People often do this when they just want something to be true...

I can't find my car keys, I bet aliens took them.  What other explanation can there be, it had to be aliens!?!?!?!!?!

So you neurons are firing longer than they initially thought after your heart stops.

You class that as living?

Seems just like a slightly longer descent into nothingness to me.

Have to look into this study and see if I can find a similar study that was debunked recently, this one sounds very similar.
I guess we now need to look into a dying mans eyes longer when we are making sure we are the last thing they ever see!

Shocked

If this study is further and confirmed, many who believe in life after death (as terrorists) will be more motivated in their cause what is bad.

And the religious fanatics will talk more nonsense

In my country, the healer will have more fanatics to join their cause

I do not think this is good news

Of course it is not good news for Slow death...
