Currently Newcastle are 3 goals ahead of Leicester in their first match in the Premier League. If this score lasts until the end of the game, then they will shift position from Manchester City for a while before Manchester City do their match.
Talking about Newcastle's chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season. I see their opportunities are wide open now, even though it will still be a long journey for them. I am not entirely sure that core Barcelona has would be enough.
