I actually want to see Leverkusen from well in the Champions League competition. For some reason, I also want to see a final between Real Madrid and Leverkusen. I think because I want to see how great coaches, Alonso and Ancelotti does against each other. I understand that this is not a good comparison and probably there is a very high chance that Real Madrid is actually going to win very easily. Because of the track record that they have in the Champions League. But it will still be something to watch. The expectation is really high from Leverkusen. I hope they will be able to deliver properly on that.
It demonstrates how the level of European competition is significantly higher than the domestic league like bundesliga, correct? It was Atalanta who defeated Leverkusen in the Europa League. You can imagine when Leverkusen will play in the UCL next season. Xabi's club will compete against a number of very powerful clubs. These teams are even stronger than Atlanta.
Xabi must ensure his side is well-prepared for the UCL competition. It's getting even harder than before. Leverkusen consistently failed in the group stage and round of 16. The new format will make UCL much lengthier than before.
More strength is required for any club to get to the quarterfinals or semifinals. I don't mistrust Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, but UCL is very different from the Bundesliga. It's packed of strong teams. Leverkusen might possibly rejoin Atalanta.
I'm hoping Atalanta can face Leverkusen in the same group. If that happens, I'll always root for Atlanta.
Xabi must dig deeper in order to gain more experience at UCL. Being untouchable in the Bundesliga is nothing compared to European competitions such as the Europa League or the Champions League.
