I'm getting excited already now about the next stages. The biggest candidates for the title are obvious already now for me. And I would really like to see PSG making it to the title this time. They have their biggest chance now as they have Messi, Mbappe and Neymar at the same time. In the next season, it seems like that at least Mbappe will leave the team. And this would be really bad for PSG.
Despite indeed psg has a lot of stars as well as manchester city favorited among others to win the prestigious champions league title this season, bayern munich for me are the one who had everything to get this trophy back in their cabinet. they are ready mentally and statistically , also dont you forget chelsea being underestimated last season but win it though.

this is football and this is a real unpredictable league, we could see any team lift up the trophy, even lille or villareal!

It's still too early to predict which team will win the Champions League trophy this season. Because there are still many big teams that deserve
to be champions, maybe in my opinion there are 4 teams that are most likely to win the Champions League. Bayern, Man City, Liverpool and
Real Madrid are the 4 teams with the greatest chances of winning the Champions League this season. Bayern probably has the least amount of
weakness compared to the other 3 teams that I mentioned. So Bayern is for me the first choice who will win the Champions League trophy this
season. Then PSG and Chelsea can be unexpected dark horse teams, andn there is Ajax that can't be underestimated either, achieved a perfect
victory and became the group champion. It is very interesting to wait for the draw for the next round of the Champions League.

Xavi was well aware he was taking up a very difficult and complicated job, and he is also an inexperienced manager, so I didn't really expect too much from him, I believe Barcelona had no other choice but to sign Xavi cause of their present financial condition, it's really a difficult period for the Spanish giants and the board has a lot of work on their hands, their league position is bad enough, and now they have to play Europa league football for the remainder of the season.

Having said that, I just hope this isn't the end of an era, so many clubs have fallen from their lofty heights and it took them so many years to start fighting again, if that's the case with Barcelona, then their fans have to start getting ready for it, cause it's really going to be tough times.
I would not say that Xavi is an inexperienced manager, he is inexperienced in this level of football for sure, he was managing a much worse team but he turned a team that wasn't dominating and was just good into a team that did not even lose all that much. These things take time and I am 100% sure that he will be able to create a roster that plays the perfect tiki-taka system and how they could end up with a much better result next season.

I doubt that they would sack Xavi even if he ends with a bad result this year, he was given a tough task this year, but next season after the off-season is over and he gets some players that would be better suited for his style (doesn't even have to be superstars, just fitting for his system) then I am sure he will be doing better, and if he doesn't only then he would face the challenge of getting sacked.

This season's Champions league has too many big candidates or contenders. Many people has better chances even more than PSG. For instance if there is a Champions league match between PSG and Bayern, I'll obviously tip Bayern to win.
This year might still not be PSG's year.
As talking about Mbappe's exit next season. It will be a very good thing for the club. They need one of the three big fishes to exit in order to stable.

PSG was strong on paper in the beginning of the season especially after signing Messi and Ramos but honestly right now, I doubt they could make it to the finals. Maybe in the upcoming weeks their gameplay might improve and prove me wrong but until then I think two teams between Bayern, City, Liverpool and Chelsea will play finals.
Although I don't really like your way of paraphrasing clippings from articles ... nevertheless, I probably disagree with you or with si.com. It's all about priorities, and the Champions League is not among Messi's priorities, but perhaps the club's management and such young players as Mbappe want this, but definitely not the one who wants to take the first line in the history of world football.

Who is Messi's closest competitor for this title? Ronaldo? Now compare his trophies with the trophies of everyone's favorite Portuguese and you will understand what I mean. If I knew where I can now bet on the fact that Messi will play in the Premier League in two years, I would have done it without hesitation, since having won the Premier League championship, Messi would have been able to catch up with Ronaldo in terms of the number of cups he owns.

Quote from: www.si.com
The French outfit have one of the best teams in the world. On paper. Unfortunately for them 'on paper' doesn't win you the major honours. With Lionel Messi finally in the scoring books [...]

If they had told me at the beginning of the year, I would have said that this is impossible because Ramos, neymar, messi and Mbabbe will play the same team. Yes, it has become a very exciting team PSG. But unfortunately the team does not give the desired performance. There are much stronger opponents in the champions league. Liverpool, Chelsea teams are really fixers, tactically. PSG can increase the level a little more, then we may have a chance to see PSG in the final.

I second that, I actually never believed in PSG's ability to win the CL even before the start of the tournament, I knew it would be very difficult for Pochettino to handle the collection of stars at his disposal and it would also be improbable for them to play as a team, mind you that winning the CL has a lot to do with team work and togetherness, PSG have individual talents, but they are yet to blend as a team. Manchester City remain my favorite to win the title this season, after making it to the final last season, I'm expecting them to go a step further and bring the title to the Etihad, they will also be extra motivated cause it's the title they are yet to win, and they are so craving to do so.

Barcelona is  no longer same with past time, this is likely not a big club again even this club still has a big community or fans. Well, this will really make Xavi difficult to bring up again Barcelona to get or be the previous powerful club. It may be, but still need more times, not this season.

Contrary to the majority of Barcelona fans, I do not believe that Xavi will be able to revive Barcelona. He has no experience of building a team from scratch. Barcelona needs to build a new team. Guardiola's situation was much easier and in those days many clubs were in decline. Now there are many strong clubs, and Barcelona, in addition to financial problems, has staffing problems. There are no players around whom to build a team. So Barcelona has a long recovery ahead of it, possibly 3-5 years.

Barcelona without Suarez and Messi is really bad, for years they made a team around Messi and without him they are useless . Against Bayern they couldnt create one chance Bayern even putted in later some players from youth academy just to have fun with them

There are only 3 team that are able to lead the group standings with 100% wins each and one of them is Liverpool. I am very happy with Liverpool's achievements during the group stage because they had a stable performance even when they were in a difficult group. I want them to be able to maintain this form until the end of the tournament, we have a big chance to do that this season even though Bayern Munchen, Manchester City and several other teams are also the best challengers.

Buddy, forget Barcelona. They are no longer as great as they used to be. His glorious era has passed and there is not a single player to be proud of in his squad this season.

I was amazed at Villarreal's gameplay and fascinated at the same time. I never thought they would win. They were 3-0 up in the 71st minute of match time. I think they played well, but their luck helped a lot to win this match. They have made a total of 9 shots, of which they have managed to score 3 goals. Atlanta, on the other hand, dominated the entire match, taking a total of 19 shots. Yet they did not win.
Atlanta is a cool team but unfortunately their pressure system gives them no mercy if someone makes an individual mistake the whole team suffers. Such a system of pressing makes the game very entertaining and if the team were stronger individually, the results would be better...

Although I expected Atlanta to win this match. But at the beginning of the match they conceded the goal and fell behind. Atalanta attacked a lot, but did not succeed. Since Atlanta has played attacking, Villarreal's players have a good chance to score from a counter attack. However, I do not expect to see the Atlanta team in a stronger form next season.

Too sloppy from Atalanta, they allowed Villarreal scored first.
This was the biggest mistake, too bad too many people expecting the host to win the game.
It's up to themselves to decide how good they'll play in the Europa league.

There can be very exciting matches in the round of 16 matchups.  If there are matches like Bayern Munich-Inter, Real Madrid-Paris SG, we can watch more exciting matches.  The teams that finished second in the group stages are also very strong.  Championship candidates such as Paris SG, Inter and Chelsea finished the group in second place.
There will definitely be some pretty heated clashes and big matches which will definitely be fun to watch in the last 16.
because for now their pot is very promising for the big match in the last 16.
I also hope there will be something quite interesting as you imagine.
But I hope Chelsea and Liverpool get a balanced opponent here whoever it is from Madrid, PSG or Bayern

With the end of the Atalanta-Villarreal match, the group stages of the champions league came to an end.  An unexpected defeat came from Atalanta.  Villarreal managed to win away.  The match ended 3-2 and Atalanta scored 2 goals in the last 10 minutes.  Maybe if they had scored earlier, they could have won a draw or a win.
I'm actually quite disappointed with the result of this match because I really feel Atalanta is one of the teams that will qualify.
But indeed they did not perform well in this match and I feel they lacked concentration in the first half which resulted in them falling behind.
Lack of preparation at the beginning of the round is something that is very disappointing for Atalanta

That's what usually happens, when a team can dominate ball possession but the end result is that it turns upside down where the team that dominates ball possession loses. But here, indeed Atalanta are not lucky enough because in fact, Atalanta not only dominates ball possession because in the record of goal attempts, shots on goal and shots off goal at least Atalanta can really dominate the match as a whole. So yes, maybe luck played a part in this match too, but Atalanta can still be said to be great because they kept trying until they finally got 2 goals back towards the end of the match. Also, it looks like it was a late reply, because if the return goal had happened minutes earlier then it's very possible the final score could have been very different.

I totally agree with what you said. If Atalanta had scored an earlier goal in this match, we could have seen a much different score right now and Atalanta might have gone to the next round. It is not enough to play well in such matches, if you cannot score a goal, unfortunately, you lose. It is also very important not to make simple mistakes and concede a goal. No matter how good the Atalanta players played, unfortunately they were eliminated

It's true that some teams can't be confronted, but I see some combinations there that seem to me more the fans' interest than anything else.  Roll Eyes

One of the funniest matches I've watched lately was the Atalanta vs Villarreal match. I enjoy it a lot when there are a lot of goals in such European matches. Atalanta tried a lot but it wasn't enough and unfortunately they couldn't go to the next round. They played the ball more than their opponents in the match and shot too many shots, but they couldn't score enough goals. It was a bit of an unlucky match for them

Because indeed possession of the ball does not guarantee victory Cheesy
On the other hand, it is very unfortunate for Atalanta because they are actually quite good and can be said to be dark horses and I expected something more from them, but fate is not in their favor in the champions league.
and in this match against Villareal I feel they did not concentrate in the first half especially with the goal which was actually too early.
