I think Italy vs England is an ideal final, it's like a classic fight between two countries which has a good football competition and a great football history. Both England and Italy have the same great opportunity to become champions, so everything will be decided on the field.
You are right that the chances of both countries are equal to be champions, even though England is the host but often in football it doesn't really matter.
England often are not get good result at big tournament, but maybe it's time for England to lift the trophy.

My guess is the match will be decided in extra time or even a penalty shootout.

They will play very carefully so this possibility is very big.

England are in the final wow and Harry Kane got a field goal as the penalty was saved but he got the rebound. I do feel from watching the highlights Kane seemed really good, he even actually deserved the assist for the own goal.

But luck is with the English. They got the own goal and got the rebound. Can Italy survive this luck?

But in this instance, what would have happened if the referee hadn't given the penalty?

It would have been starting to rain with Englishmen in the Danish area  Grin

Only obvious errors are to be corrected. And there was a touch. But in my opinion it was not enough for a penalty. But it was the referee's decision and I don't know what he have seen.

I think that it may have been correlated to the fact seconds before another foul was attempted on him. (Maybe not normal either, but I've seen that before).

I don't know though the story with 2 balls, which may have had the game stopped...or not.
But the decision was not right, especially knowing that Sterling is quite a stuntman and the stake of the game is this high. I really don't understand what has happened in the VAR room either; they had records from all the angles... but weren't the technicians providing the records to VAR by chance also Englishmen, since we were at Wembley?

I'm not happy about the penalty that gave England the win. It was not necessary from the referee. I would have liked to see a penalty shootout.

In this tournament they have been very reluctant with the VAR to overturn the referee's initial decision. But I think the rule is they can only overturn it if the referee has made an obvious error. In this case it wasn't an obvious error. There was definitely a touch from the first defender, and then a second foul from the second defender. Sometimes they are given, sometimes not.

I don't know. Isn't that the famous butterfly effect?

I haven't watched the game and I have a question reading twitter.

Is true that the penalty given to England was an irregular one? They have 2 balls on the pitch according to twitter.

Didn't watch it either, all the games are just way too late for me (so kind of frustrating for all these internationals halfway round the globe!).

But judging from England responses, or rather, lack of responses, nobody there wants to talk about it, which kinda suggests that there is something about it;)

From Denmark, the coach of course says "it annoys me".

But in this instance, what would have happened if the referee hadn't given the penalty? The first half of extra time was relentless England pressure, with Denmark trying desperately to keep the score at 1-1. In the second half of extra time, Denmark lost a man and had no more subs to bring on. I think the chances are that with no penalty England would have continued to attack and scored the second.

I think overall, on the balance of play, and on chances created, England deserved the win.

But I do think Italy will likely prove too strong for them in the final. England's best chance there is using the speed of their attackers... but they'll likely start with a defensive line-up as they did against Germany.

Denmark defended very well and they made it very difficult for England. I'm not happy about the penalty that gave England the win. It was not necessary from the referee. I would have liked to see a penalty shootout.

The second half was not interesting... The English were lucky in extra time to be allowed to kick a very controversial penalty!Especially as there were two balls on the field when Sterling went down! Hopefully in the final, in England, Italy will punish them properly!

If there was no own goal, it would be Denmark who would advance to the final. England is very difficult to score goal in normal time. They were confused by the brilliant Danish tactics. Unfortunately, luck said otherwise, Denmark had to be eliminated after extra time.  Sad

I'd have to disagree with that. England almost scored just one minute before the goal, with Sterling's shot from point-blank range saved by Schmeichel. As for the own goal, the defender had two choices, own goal or let Sterling score. And if England hadn't equalised then, they'd have continued to attack with more and more pressure.

The crucial thing for me, as the game wore on, was that England had greater strength in depth. Denmark used most of their subs early, and England still had high quality players with fresh legs to bring on later. The end of normal time, and all of extra-time until England scored their second was just relentless one-way pressure. The only question was whether Denmark could survive long enough to take it to a penalty shootout.

As for the penalty decision, yes, it was quite soft... but England had a much clearer penalty from the foul on Kane turned down earlier in the match.

It wasn't really an easy game for England last night, Denmark gave in their all with brilliant saves from Schmeichel. Denmark's performance was highly professional all through the game. Congratulations to England fo making it to the final. Would goes home with the trophy this where the king of the tournament would be decided.

No you don't need to be a Denmark fan to be shocked by this referee decision. If both situations are valid as you say then the referee mustn't choose the penalty because giving a penalty in the extra time means giving the victory to the team. And a team should win because it is stronger than its opponent, not because of a foul of the other team.

I said both options would be acceptable!
This will depend on how the referee interprets the move and the entire frame of play seen by the referee on the field. It was nothing scandalous.

Furthermore, a penalty does not guarantee a goal!
Alias the penalty was saved! The defense of Denmark is that it did not have the ability to avoid the reload.
The goal was not a penalty, it was the rebound.

The English team is unambiguously strong and the game with Denmark showed well that the coaching work was done at an extremely high level.  The position of the players was chosen by the coach almost flawlessly.  And of course the Danes are also a powerful contender.  In general, such a tense game definitely delighted the fans.
I think the game with Italy will be interesting too, but I suspect that it will be easier for the English team than with Denmark.  But let's see.  Wait only 3 days.

Italy is still in the rebuilding phase, so I don't know whether they will be able to win against England. And the final match is going to be played at the Wembley stadium, which is going to give an enormous advantage for the England team.

WTF Shocked, I just found out about this, If it's like this I'm sure more than 80% of the winning percentage will be in England. Moreover, the condition of the England players is very fit.

4 days left before the match starts, my prediction is England will win very easily, 0 - 2 or 1 - 3 for England.

I am not sure that England will have an easy win against Italy! Yes, England is playing at home, and that is a nice advantage, especially with over 60,000 fans expected to be in attendance as I saw in some news, but Italians are in the final match for a reason! I wouldn't underestimate them!
Both of these teams have good games behind, and I think that picking a winner is extremely difficult. I believe we will watch a very tense game, both teams are good, pressure is high... I don't think we will see many goals, both teams have a very good defense!

Congrats to England that they got lucky into the final even with just one scored goal from a lucky given penalty.
Denmark was playing good against them and was unlucky with the one goal they scored to the 1 : 1.
It was a amazing freekick but it was not enough in the end .
Hope that Italy will win now the final.

Yeah, but this is the best moment for Denmark and best position for them after Final 1992. Most of people also have same prediction, Italy maybe better than England squad. But, the spirits of England players can give something different. As we know, last time England got a trophy already happen very long time ago, this final can be the best history for them to get the first EURO trophy.
England have reached the final with unbelievable team spirit, they were superb and the same effort need against Italy. Anyway, with or without that controversial penalty which is part of the game as well, England was better and deserved to win the match. Denmark got only one free kick. But thanks Denmark for entertaining us, you all were playing for Eriksen with heavy heart. Hats off to this team.

Will Kane able to score goal(s) in Final to get the Top Score title? I believe he will not be focusing on it because he will be preferring to help the team to win the tournament instead of focusing on personal achievement.
Kane playing well, he deserved it.  he started showing his good performance in rounds of 16 when creating 1 goal in the last minutes. But he still not stable, he missed the penalty, He must practise it again, there's still 3 days until match days. I also agree he will not focus on that, but when it will happen he will make a history pairing tops score world cup 2018 with euro 2021.

I fell asleep and missed the England Vs Denmark match, I was quite surprised by the result, because Denmark was able to hold on to a draw until the second half ended, unfortunately they were not able to survive in Extra Time.

Congratulations to England who have entered the final and will face Italy in the next 4 days, who do you think will be the champion? Italy or England Roll Eyes

Italy is still in the rebuilding phase, so I don't know whether they will be able to win against England. And the final match is going to be played at the Wembley stadium, which is going to give an enormous advantage for the England team. But now England can no longer claim that they haven't conceded a goal in this tournament. The goal scored by Mikkel Damsgaard during yesterday's match was the first one conceded by England, since the tournament started (there was some controversy regarding it, with some arguing that the goal was against the laws and should not have been allowed).

I think there are people out there who think Sterling did a diving until the referee pointed to the penalty spot even though, the violation was also checked by VAR which means it was a foul. Despite the controversy I think even before, when Kane got a tackle inside the penalty area the referee didn't consider it a foul, even though I think it was a clear tackle that should have been a penalty but yes, in the end Kane got England through to the final and it was a game extraordinarily long.
