Another poor game for England but the won in the penalty lottery.
So far England is not playing a great football the only thiongs that's matter is the result.
I think England is just lucky to have won because they are not playing anything spectacular. Obviously, they are overrated. Deep down I expected Switzerland to win because of their record in this competition but as it is football, the best sides don't always win and when game enters penalty, luck becomes an important factor. Let's see how England will do in the Semi final against the winner of the match between Netherland and Turkey in which the later is leading by one goal as at half time. Turkey have also been one lucky side and if they happen to maintain their one goal lead, then we will see a semi final of two lucky teams.

Football can be something else sometimes, of all the games we had in the quarter finals, Netherlands was weighted to be the much more easier one for the orange 🍊 nation, and unfortunately as things stand Turkey look like the better team of the two and got ahead with their usual aerial advantage to go 1up before halftime but I believe big teams need these kind of goals just to wake them up just like we saw with England earlier on!

Inplay prediction, Netherlands 2-1 Turkey.

Come on Orange 🍊 Nation we can get this comeback going!!!

As one of the strong candidates to win, England should have been able to get rid of Switzerland in normal time, but Southgate squad was lucky to qualify after going through a round of luck. Southgate doesn't seem to have found the right strategy to overcome the dullness of the front line, I think Southgate must have the courage to take a stand to rotate a number of players in the next match. Switzerland played well throughout the match, they managed to put up fierce resistance, and I think they were just unlucky today.

Regardless of the way the match goes, concerns about England chances in the next round are increasing. we will wait for the results of the match between Netherlands versus Turkiye, and see who will face England in the semifinals. Overall, England journey to the semifinals was relatively easy, because they did not face other top teams. I predict that the Netherlands will be a strong candidate as England opponent in the semifinals, Southgate fate will be at stake in that match.

One thing that affects this England team is the fact that you fans overhype them too much and that is why we think they can just defeat any team like that. How can you say England Should have ease pass Switzerland like the as though they are playing a smaller team, Switzerland eliminated the defending champions, Italy’ and  collected point from the host nation German which in my opinion are better than England. The game to me didn’t have any superior and that’s why it went down to the spot kicks.

I agree with you that upon the years that Southgate has spent with the England team he is yet to get a proper start line up. Today he opted for back three and wing backs only to change when conceded and that was when he was able to score. One thing I think he needs to change is having Shaw back into the lineup, man was rock solid when he came on and we all could see why Southgate trusted him even while he was injured and still brought him.
And if we rate both teams performance in Euro 2024 tournament,  I would say Switzerland has done way better than England in my opinion,  eliminating Italy isn't an easy task, if not for the penalty shootout England wouldn't have won in that game, in a game that involved penalty shootout one team is certainly going home, no one should underate Switzerland in this competition, they aren't an easy opponent team side this season's trophy.

And we are through penalties... I really liked Switzerland in extra time. They got so close to scoring another goal. Especially that bold attempt by Shaqiri from that corner.  Shocked  It could have been an iconic goal.

England have a really bad history with penalties in such competitions. I'm wondering if we will see another example of it. I really like Sommer as for penalties. He has been like a beast about penalty saving but we will see.

Switzerland can still win this but they are going to rely on their goalkeeper the most. Because England has many more quality players. If England lose, I don't think the board will wait much for sacking Southgate.  Smiley

Switzerland played very well in this euro, they were a tough opponent. I wanted Switzerland to win because they deserved it. When it came to penalties, I was expecting magic from Sommer because he is one of the best penalty stoppers but he failed and England won. Congratulations to all English fans. The last three matches, Spain - Germany, France - Portugal and Swiss - England was really very exciting, all of these matches went overtime and two of them went to penalties, have we seen this before recently? I watch football since 2008 and I don't remember it.

P.S. Turkey just scored against Netherlands. This euro is so full of surprises.

This is how England play sometimes we can say England's matches are always unprepared but that is the tactic of Southgate England's game is much more boring than other matches but they managed to score again after Switzerland did it.

Fortunately England went through on penalties and the penalty takers were all experienced meaning they were ready for this rather than the full match.
At least England going through means all the big teams will be in the semi-finals including the Netherlands who will win this time.

It turns out that during the entire tournament England (the main favorite haha) won in regulation time only once. The second main favorite, France, did not score a single goal from the game. And by the way, both of these teams advanced to the semi-finals in a penalty shootout with the same score. I have nothing against these teams, but in the semi-finals I will root for Spain and the Netherlands. It is unlikely that Türkiye will present a surprise today.
By the way, regarding the penalty shootout, the coach of the Swiss national team made a strange choice for the player who starts the series, perhaps this mistake was the reason for the defeat.

It seems like England are not very ready for this tournament. This score is not good enough for them. Switzerland almost beat them. It would not be right to say that Switzerland played badly, I even thought they would win the match.
England are having problems scoring goals, they could be eliminated from the tournament if they fell behind in the match. As a result of the penalty shootout, the expected happened and England won. Switzerland was very close to the semi-finals but it didn't happen

https://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/england-boss-gareth-southgate-has-pulled-off-a-huge-double-bluff-against-switzerland

Before the Euro kicked off, there were a lot of people who backed England to win the competition - but there were a lot of doubts too. The doubts weren’t due to the players, it was due to the man who has kicked off the 100th game as England manager, Gareth Southgate. England, on paper, has arguably the best squad in the competition, but the players are forced to play in a tactic that forces them to be extremely defensive - which is holding the stars of England back heavily. Switzerland almost won the game, but as it happens in England games the individual brilliance saved the day, coming from Saka and then 5/5 perfect penalties.

Yeah, Trent saves the day for England!  Grin  Southgate did a good thing there though I must admit. By replacing Foden with Trent thinking of the high possibility of seeing penalties. As I said England didn't have a great history with penalties part in big competitions but here they didn't get a disappointment. Despite Southgate's poor game the players want to advance as much as possible.
England haven’t had the best of luck with penalties when it came to the Euro tournaments. I know for a fact they would have wished to end this game in regular time or extra time but, they were caught head on by the way the Swiss team played. It got even more intense with the Shaqiri substitute and he created such dangerous chances late in the game. One substitute from the Swiss side that didn’t came off with expectation was Zuber. I think Vargas should have been given more time to play as he troubled England on the right flanks.

Down to the penalties, a tricky game from Southgate having to rest Harry Kane after that trip over the kits box. Ivan Toney however isn’t bad at set pieces and have an impressive record haven’t taken 40 set pieces including this one and have scored 37 of them if am not mistaken.
Saka took his set piece early as a way to remedy his last missed set piece that ended badly for England.

Another game with penalties to settle both sides.

Now it is time for Netherlands - Turkey. I think this game will be the one with most goals in the quarter finals. I'm 100% sure of it.  Grin  I hope we can manage to get the win although Netherlands are a big favourite here.  Roll Eyes
I don’t expect this fixture Netherland vs Türkiye to end in a draw but, I kind of wonder how isn’t this going to follow same direction if both sides choose to play it safe as we’ve watched so far. No team is willing to be too offensive and make a mistake. We might be off for another draw but, that’s just my speculation. However, I think we would see a first half draw in this one as I have earlier predicted and with barely 10minutes on the clock to halftime, it’s already closing in.

Eidted: Just as I was done typing, Türkiye had there first goal! They seem to be defying all the odds as it is.

Basically Switzerland is a strong team and they have a good history against 2 other strong teams such as Germany and Italy clearly we still remember how Switzerland beat Italy so I wasn't too surprised when they put in a good game against England. In this match I have to say England was luckier because even though they conceded early but managed to equalize the score. Now we have 3 teams taking their place in the semi-finals Spain, France and England next is Türkiye?

Maybe some people favor Netherland but I think Türkiye should be watched out for even if the match has to end in a penalty shootout, Netherland has a chance to win in regular time+Extra time if it fails then the situation will be worse in the penalty shootout. The match has been going on for 35 minutes but we haven't seen a single goal is this a sign that matches in the quarter finals will always end in a draw?

A good game of football to watch and yes Swizz are bit unlucky in penalties. Netherlands and Turkey match is not easy both teams are eagerly waiting to qualify for the semis and I hope it is also a tough and interesting match to watch like the previous one.

Alexander Arnold have put England through to the semifinals as he scored the last goal of 5 penalties played by both teams. England have professional penalty players and that was a great advantage to them. Southgate has survived again today.

On the other hand the first penalty player of Switzerland Akanji lost his penalty putting his country on a very tight corner of qualifying to the semifinals which was what eliminated them out the the competition. The next match will be between Netherlands and Turkey.
England is in the Semi-finals of EURO2024 and it's very disappointing to see the Swiss team on a losing side. England's coach is still going with his unchanged game plan and you will see this will cost them soon because I am sure with this kind of approach you will never win big tournaments. Trent last last-minute add in the squad for penalties pays them well. Trent is a player with a high level of Skill and can play for the team continually for 120 minutes but the coach did not know this thing or he knows but denies the fact.

Saka magic moment was on the 80th minutes which put them back to the game. The goal was the first shot on target telling how bad the match has being for England today. England won their last match that entended to 30 minutes extra time, will this match be the same for them.

After 30 minutes, if non of them are able to score, it will be a penalty shootout but I am seeing Switzerland trying to see how they can win the match without playing penalties.
Switzerland scored the first goal of the match in the 75th minute. Bukayo Saka equalized the match after just 5 minutes. Saka scored a fantastic goal. Saka scored from Declan Rice's assist.

I didn't expect the England vs Switzerland match to be very competitive. Because I have not seen the England team play very well in the past matches. As usual, England's overall performance in today's match is quite slow. Bellingham and Harry Kane are not playing well. If this pair would have been able to perform well then England's attack would have become stronger.
Another one of the tough matches at Euro 2024 has finished in dramatic fashion. England managed to progress to the next round after winning 5-3 in the penalty shootout, but I didn't expect the match to really be that difficult for them.

England really deserved to go through to the semi-finals when they have so many quality players in their squad, but so far England have been difficult to hope for at times. But congratulations, today they have done a good job and qualified for the semifinals. Just one more tough game before the final whether against the Netherlands or Türkiye.

I could not be satisfied with the performance of England and Switzerland in this match. We all expected better gameplay from these two teams.
England have always been like that, but at Euro 2024 they seem to be favorites going into the final. Of course they fought hard with all the abilities and quality of their players, it paid off by qualifying for the semifinals.

One of the worst Eurocup i remember, i dont know what is really happen with the good teams, some says is because the players doesnt have the correct ammount of rest after a long season, but for me that is not suficient because that rest was equal for everyone, i mean even weak teams can be tired so you defend worst, but the low ammount of goals in some teams are alarming, France for example.
Most players in the big teams happens to play in bigger clubs that has bigger expectations. You can't compare that to the work demands of a team that's just fighting to survive relegation. Some of the big countries has players that played in the Europa league, conference league and Champions league finals. Some at the quarter and semi finals, it's never the same with countries that doesn't have players in those clubs. Even if all the players had same amount of rest, their work demands during the long season is never the same. Let's take the premier league for example, the league winners were determined on the final day of the season, so their players kept working hard till the last day. You can't compare that to clubs like Fulham whose ambition was just to remain in the premier league. Their players started resting long before the season was over. Look at the big nations that are struggling to score goals and confirm how many players they have in Europe top clubs. So the players are really tired.

England are currently trying hard to score and Switzerland are also attacking a lot to give England goals. A very exciting game between the two teams with both teams battling hard but neither successfully scored a goal so far. However, the attacking situation is likely to be more exciting for the England team and there are plenty of chances to score. Although England have strong stars in their squad, they have not been able to mount a successful attack against Switzerland so far. However today's game will be penalty shootout if no goal is scored till the last minute and in penalty shootout each team can win depending on luck. In that case, if England's luck is good in today's match, they can win and if Switzerland's luck is good, they can enter the semi-finals.
They are still struggling with the amount of armory they have in this tournament, to be honest with you I expected something more different from what we have been seeing from the England players. Now is the time Southgate needs to make some important chances to make the team more stronger because with the way the Switzerland are taking this game I think they are getting tired and this is the moment England have been waiting for since they can't get a win at full time. Today is not the day to hope on luck and I believe that if Switzerland get any opportunity that would be the end of it for the 3 Lions.

I could not be satisfied with the performance of England and Switzerland in this match. We all expected better gameplay from these two teams. Especially despite having a strong England squad, their performance was quite poor. Saka saved England in this match. He managed to equalize the match 1-1 in just 5 minutes.

Both teams performed cautiously in extra time as well. England had a total of 13 shots in the match and Switzerland's players had 11. Both teams had only 3 shots on target each. In the penalty shootout, England scored 5 goals but Switzerland scored 3. Akanji failed to score from the penalty spot. This is nothing but Switzerland's bad luck.
