I disagree to say Ronaldo like this. He is no longer as good as he was years ago but saying he is a worse Portuguese player in this tournament, it's not true. I am not his fan, to be frank, but do you think younger players like Joao Felix played better than Ronaldo in Euro 2024 for Portugal?

With his current age and the physical condition he has, he should follow Kroos. Kroos will complete his last task with the German national team at Euro 2024. Even Kroos still performs better than Ronaldo. Kroos is also only 34 years old. But his statement was quite surprising. Maybe Ronaldo and Pepe still have a great desire to play, but they have to be aware. Their condition has greatly declined. They have to start thinking about getting a license and a bear from the sidelines to become a coach. If Ronaldo still participates in the 2026 world cup, it seems that the coach will only carry the burden for other players.

Portugal actually had a pretty good performance, only since they lost 0-2 to Georgia, Portugal seems to have a deadlock on their front line, and they haven't found a goal at all in their last 3 matches. As we know, Roberto Martínez always chooses Ronaldo to be the starter in all games but it was strange to see Ronaldo not being able to score even just 1 goal (aside from penalty shootout). He is indeed old and he might no longer be as impressive as they used to be but, I don't think that's what made him fail to get a goal.

In my opinion, what prevented Ronaldo from getting goals was that he received very few passes from his teammates. Even when Ronaldo is in a good position to score a goal, his teammates seem reluctant to make an assist.
A good game played by Portugal but the only thing I see that is not good in the CR7 team is converting chances into goals they completely failed as a team to do so and in a match against France similar thing happened and things got interesting and match result should decide on penalties. CR7 is a little bit tired and fed up with himself for not converting chances into goals.

Ronaldo has a new record in this competition of playing in five games and not scoring any goal. He has done his best and needs to really give other players a chance to shine in this Portugal team. The coach would have easily taken him off to bring in other new players, but because the coach knows how much the media will make that a headline, he had to keep him on. Portugal had many opportunity to win the game, they wasted it all.
France are not Slovenia, they have more experience with penalties and playing in top competition, Portugal should not have expected Costa to save many penalty kicks like he did against Slovenia.

Portugal have done everything they can in this match, but because the result of the match must be determined by penalties, the chance is 50:50. This isn't Cristiano fault, and not the fault of the other Portugal players, they just lost luck to France. It's a shame they stopped here, even though there are many people out there who hope that one of the icons of world football can play in the EURO final.

Though you said this it's not ronaldo's fault, but he played so badly in this tournament. Ronaldo is such a burden in the match against France. I think you know when Ronaldo missed a golden chance in the 92nd minute against France. It was very damn easy to scored the only goal, and win the duel, but he missed it.
But again, i take it positive, and it think it's a signal for him to retire from the club. Again, glad this is ronaldo's last time play in portugal national team. It's time for him to support portugal from the sidelines.

Though ronaldo performed so badly, but he deserves lots of appreciations. All in all, ronaldo did best for his national club.

The game between Germany and Spain was certainly competitive but Germany lost after 30 minutes of extra time.  Germany, the host nation, naturally went ahead against Spain, but Spain did well in the match. Most of the time we saw Spain was ahead of Germany. When Spain scored the first goal, Germany tried hard but could not score, but at the very end of the main time, Germany scored a goal to bring the team back to level. If Germany had been able to perform as aggressively in extra time as Germany did in the second half, the outcome of the match might have been different.

In the match between Spain and Germany my bet was in favor of Germany but I'm not unhappy with the result because Spain performed so well that's why they won and Spain definitely qualified for the next round.

I think Spain played very well, I didn't expect them to play this well. Germany was not as good as I expected, they missed many opportunities. In fact, both teams could have scored many more goals, but they were on their unlucky days. If the goal had not been scored in the last minutes, the players would have been much less tired. Overtime in such matches is very tiring and can cause great stress

performance was slightly better but unfortunately no goals were scored in normal time.
~Snip~
Yesterday match between Germany vs Spain was the most interesting game between the two matches, and it was actually very fascinating no doubt, but I wasn't happy with the officiating of the central referee, I believe that he killed the game by his incompetence, that game would have gone to penalty shoot out if he had gave Germany that clear penalty they had when the ball struck cucurella's hand in the penalty box, and to me, that was the turning point of the game, because it was very clear that the Germans has seized the rythme and it would have led to penalty shoot out or they would have won, but the performance of the referee was the major cause of their losing yesterday.

Then as for the Portugal vs France, it was an even game, though the France team has almost all the best scoring opportunities, but I don't actually think they were better than Portugal either, so since it ends in a penalty shoot out, I would say that the winning side was just lucky, because penalty is a game of luck, so a big congratulations to France for advancing to the semi final stage of the competition.
This match was very tough, both teams threatened each other's goal in order to get the winning goal, the score 1-1 lasted until the end of normal time, indicating that this match was full of tension. I don't really highlight the referee's performance in this match, because there were several moments that were detrimental to both sides, including Toni Kroos hard foul on Pedri. Customers like this should be given a red card because they can injure their opponent, but the referee did not give any card to Toni Kroos, Pedri had to be pulled off because he couldn't continue the match.

A big advantage for Spain after Pedri was pulled out and replaced with Dani Olmo, he became the hero of Spain's victory by scoring one goal and one assist in this match. Toni Kroos certainly regrets his actions because it was because of him that Dani Olmo got a playing slot and destroyed Germany's dream of appearing in the semifinals.

Spain came in with an excellent start in the second half with their substitute Olmo given them the lead just in 51mins with that fabulous shot with that constructive pass from Lamine Yamal. Olmo didn't waste a sec launching the ball behind the Germany goalie so calmly, a one touch hit.

Can Germany give a response in this game against Spain?  They had that comeback with Switzerland just when we all thought they are put of any possibilities. Looking at the situation, am just left with no choice but to ask if there's a hope still.
The game is over and Spain have did it to make it 2:1 just before the end. I would have liked to have seen a penalty shoot-out because I think Germany would have won that. But okay, thats it, the hosts are out and a strong team made sure of it. Just before the end Füllkrug had a great chance, the header went so close to the goal... or Musialass shot to Cucurellass hand, that should normally have been an eleven. You can discuss the mistakes now, or let it go and watch Spain in the semifinals. Germany is a great team and they will always be a favorite.
Spain deserves to qualify and the quality of the players has really improved drastically, the left side is William Jr and the right side is Yamal making very effective attacks. The German back line was almost in trouble. The match against Germany ended dramatically and the victory in extra time was unexpected, I had hoped to see a penalty shootout. Carvajal made the right decision even though he was rewarded with a red card, but with this violation, German lost the opportunity to score a goal from Jamal Musiala counterattack. There was a lot of controversy in that match and yellow cards were inevitable until Spain collected 5 yellow cards and Germany 8 yellow cards. The referee's decision regarding Cucurella handball is still being debated and the German side really does not accept it.

Portugal gave their all, they have really tried and they should be proud of what they?ve achieved together until this very moment. In football, you can?t win all the time. You try your best and allow luck to decide the rest. The Portuguese team deserve to win that match but unfortunately it wasn?t their day and luck was not by their side.

As for Ronaldo, people can hate on him but without doubt he?s one of the greatest player in history to lace up soccer cleats. His spirit will be a huge loss for Portugal team whenever he chooses to retire from the squad. However, it?s time for Portugal to move on from him and the likes of him including Pepe. This in anyway doesn?t take away the fact that they were great players to their nation but just to make ways for the upcoming and younger players in order to remain competitive.

By the way, congratulations to France on their victory. It was a actually a great game from both teams and the better side won.

I think that Portugal played an excellent match and tried until the end, as for Ronaldo I think he is one of the strongest players ever and there is no doubt about this, now that his time has come it is a given but given everything they have won it seems like a well-deserved rest, France will go a long way and will most likely play in the final!

Yesterday's match marked the end of the careers of several football players in the Euro competition and it was certainly a very sad farewell. These veteran players are no longer young, but we are fortunate that since the beginning of their careers we have been able to see great play from each player. It feels like we will definitely be missed by their play on the field and we still don't want to see these players have to stop their steps early.

Croatia failed to advance from the group stage and we can see how exhausted Modric is leading this team. Then there are Neuer, Muller and Kroos who last night played their last match after being defeated by Spain and don't forget the two oldest players at this year's Euro, namely Pepe and Ronaldo, who had to be eliminated after losing in the penalty shootout against France. Well, I wish these legends the best for the future and hope that everyone will always be happy even if it ends here.

I think Cristiano Ronaldo who is one of the greatest football star in the world are also facing the cruelty of aging, he is no longer able to sprint as fast as before with surprise counter attacking when he gets the ball in a good spot on the football field. I guess if Cristiano Ronaldo were to be in his prime years at his best form, Portugal will have a high chance to beat France in 90 minutes time and avoid getting eliminated in penalties shootout against France.

Portugal defeat was also Pepe and Ronaldo's last match at the Euros. We will no longer see them at Euro 2028, a very sad ending for the world of football. There are many players who also have the same fate, Modric, Kross, Muller and Nueur will also no longer be on the pitch with the national team.
We might see some of them in Euro 2028, who knows?

They can participate in Euro 2028 as players or members of their national team in coach/ staff/ representative members. Some ex-players after retirements, become coaches or board members of their national teams.

Pepe actually kept up his last fire in the match with France and it's hard to believe that he is 40 years old and could play so seriously and excellently like this. Playing at this highest level and at this intensity, two consecutive matches with 120 minutes for each, and played very well. Pepe is actually a legend with his performances for Portugal in Euro 2024.

In the Portugal vs France match, I noticed how Ronaldo moved in each line, and based on my observations, apart from the lack of ball supply from his teammates, Ronaldo has indeed lost his playing style, I mean we no longer see his dribbling and speed because Ronaldo is no longer able to do that.  There was a moment when after Bruno and Leao were withdrawn it was clear that the attacks were no longer sharp. So Ronaldo is increasingly having difficulty getting the ball, I am very amazed that at 39 he is still able to play 120 minutes, Pepe is also an old player who doesn't show any fatigue on the pitch.

What I see is that Portugal has tried as much as they can and it is quite unfortunate that their steps have to stop here. Portugal actually didn't play badly, it could even be considered that they were still slightly better than France but, when talking about opportunities and goals, it will still depend on how they can take advantage of it or how their opponents anticipate thwarting those opportunities.

It would be unfair to only blame Ronaldo for these failures because if you see the whole match (including their previous matches), it will be obvious that Ronaldo doesn't get many good passes from his teammates when he is in a good position to score.

PORTUGAL vs France

🇵🇹 Portugal : Diogo Costa; Cancelo, Rúben Dias, Pepe, Nuno Mendes; Palhinha Vitinha, Bruno Fernandes; Leao, Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva

🇫🇷 France : Maignan , Koundé, Saliba, Upamecano, Theo Hernández Kanté, Tchouameni, Camavinga; Griezmann, Kolo Muani, Mbappé

Finally Germany has been eliminated and Spain are now waiting for either Portugal or France to play Semi final, this is going to be tough one, few minutes to go.
This match between Portugal vs France is really going to be a very tough game, as I see this as a fight on who is the best between Ronaldo and Mbappe specifically, of which this game is likely to end draw with an extra time just as the just concluded game "Spain vs Germany" ended draw with an extra time up to 120 minutes. However, it's already 30 minutes with both team still playing goal-less, whereas  Portugal is currently in full control of the ball possession with both teams playing a defensive game. But in the worst case scenario, I see Portugal winning this game with a penalty kick.
In terms of ball control, France is better than Portugal now. Seeing that the French midfield was very strong made it very difficult for Portugal to play more freely. French counterattacks were more efficient which was good. Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann, Kante, Kounde are the keys to France when they play to open the team's movements. Portugal is also good in terms of winger Leao being an important role for Portugal's current line. I think Leao should play full time
I watched the full first half of the quarter final game between France and Portugal and if you ask me, I think it's been a tight ajd difficult game for both teams. Both teams have asked each other's defense few questions but none of them attempts were enough for any of them to break through. While Portugal have been trying to build their attacks from the back, France have been relying on the pace of their attackers to hit their opponents on the counter.
The second half just kicked off and considering how impressive the both teams have been, I don't can't say for sure which of the teams will likely win the game. The first half finished without a goal but I don't think that'll happen in this second half because both teams are seriously trying to break the deadlock. Most football fans are hopping that the Captains of both teams Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappe will make the difference tonight
both coaches really made a very strong strategy. until the main players were all played to win even though it ended in a final shootout won by France. From the start of the first half, France controlled the ball more sharply in my opinion. and Portugal just tried to tighten up the back. saw the Portuguese midfielder having difficulty finding a position. because the French players really locked Portugal's core players so they didn't move freely, like Ronaldo, Fernandes and last night's match was extraordinary

It was wondered what the coach would do about Ronaldo. As a result, they could not take Ronaldo out of the game and preferred to proceed this way. The priority of both teams was to not concede a goal and the match went to penalties. It is not clear who will win in penalties, so I cannot criticize a team for being eliminated in penalties.

I think France is a very strong and potential team, but they cannot reflect this on the field. They came to the semi-finals and did not show good football. Portugal did not play good football either and they got this far and were eliminated. Footballers over a certain age must give up their places to young footballers. Young football players need to gain experience and be better in the next championships.

This is not a problem of stamina and mentality, but indeed Spain's quality is slightly better, they played much better with the many attacks they managed to carry out and luck came in the final minutes of extra time, this was truly an extraordinary surprise, no one expected it. there will be a goal in those last seconds.

And overall I think Spain also deserves to qualify for the semifinals.

And in another match, Portugal had to be eliminated quite painfully because they lost through a penalty shootout even though their performance was slightly better but unfortunately no goals were scored in normal time.
Indeed, the Spain vs Germany match was very exciting, both teams had high intensity, buying and selling attacks. But to be honest, even though Germany could have won in the 90th minute if Havertz's finishing was good, unfortunately he returned to playing in his worst condition, there were several opportunities that could have been exploited to score a goal. This match should have gone to a penalty shootout but unfortunately Rudiger lost focus at a crucial minute.

Yes. Spain deserved to win this match because they played quite well and effectively. However, there is work for the coach because in Spain's next match, many players will be hit by an accumulation of cards against France. Another fact in this match, Spain's victory again confirms that the team that is hosting the Euros will never be able to win the Euro trophy.

I enjoyed the exciting match between France and Portugal in yesterday's Euro 2024 match. But when I was watching this game, I noticed that Cristiano Ronaldo looked different. The impression of age is fully evident in his appearance before we used to see him play attacking football on the pitch. I didn't see him that aggressive in yesterday's match.
Portugal and France battled it out well but in the end Portugal lost to France in a penalty shoot out. In this match, Portugal had the most Ball possession 60%, even though they took 869 passes, more than France.Still, they couldn't put a ball in France's net. Finally, the helpless Portugal team was defeated by France and left this year's Euro.

I stand with Ukraine!
This was a very disappointing defeat for Germany and as hosts, they will only be witnesses to other countries who will lift the Euro 2024 trophy. Spain is really a very strong opponent for Germany. Even though they have the advantage of playing at home, Germany is still quite difficult to control the game, and even Spain seems to have a better rhythm than Germany.

Even though they lost, Germany actually put up quite a tough fight against Spain and they also had some good chances to score goals, it's just that they weren't lucky with their finishing touch.
They deserve to win against Spain or pull the opponent to penalty shootout but one magic pass from Olmo and one accurate head shot from Merino ended the  match only several minutes before the final whistle.

Germany created more dangerous opportunities during the match than Spain but when I watched two extra half, I felt that Germany did not want to solve the match in penalty spot. Maybe they were fearful about Unai Simon, the goalkeeper of Spain with very good penalty saving skills and his style is very annoying and stressful for opponent players who are responsible for shots at the spot.

They tried and did nearly everything to win the quarter final but it's simply not their day. If the referee is someone else, maybe Germany would have been awarded a penalty after Cucurella's handball. The defender clearly shown his intention to close his arms to as nearest his body as possible but he did it too late and it's not deniable that if his arm did not touch the ball, that shot can become more dangerous. So in my opinion, it should be a penalty for Germany.

To be sincere with you I wished for the Spain vs Germany game to never come to an end, the energy of both teams was really high to get a win. I had it in mind that the host might lost at full time but they manage to pull one back to level the game and head to extra time. The Spanish players are the best in this tournament because of the way the went about business since the beginning of the competition, now is a total of 5 games in a row without losing or a draw and from how I saw things about them I believe they're going to win it, their chances of winning is higher than any other country in the tournament. With Portugal and Germany out of the way we're left with France who might be a better opponent to get to the final.
It was a very painful mistake for Germany, because they had to concede in the final minutes before the penalty shootout. A look of sadness was visible from the German players, especially senior players such as Muller and Kroos. Yes, of course they are very sad because this will be their last EURO.
There was hope when Germany equalized at the end of the second half of normal time, and they forced themselves to play in extra time. However, what Spain felt at the end of the second half, they had to feel at the end of the second half of extra time, because the goal scored by Spain meant they had to be eliminated and lose in this top 8 match.

Wow, what a match it was. The first semifinalist was Spain, who beat Germany 2-1, and the second semifinalist was France, who defeated Portugal in a penalty shootout. The Germany-Spain match was more exciting to watch than the Portugal-France match. Also Olmo’s performance in Spain was commendable.

Grin Your expectations were not disappointed.
It appears that the 1-1 scoreline between these teams has been repeated for the fourth time in the last five games. This is what I call stability. I wonder what the quotes were for this outcome, probably around 6.00. The result of regular time looks logical; after the missed goal, Germany seized the initiative, and Spain sat too low in defense, for which they were punished.

Yeah it turned into a much more exciting game as of the first goal.  Smiley  Spain didn't want to let it go to penalties and finished the job in the last moments of extra time. Merino's header was so lovely though.

I believe Spain were already deserving the semi finals more. They played better until scoring their first goal. Germany started to play better after conceding that but it was still not enough. It must be really annoying for the fans to be eliminated in the quarter finals already while the tournament is being organized in their home country.

By the way Portugal - France was so boring. When it went to penalties I thought Portugal might have a chance. But France moved on anyway. Bruno Fernandes shouldn't have been replaced by thinking of this scenario.
