I think the conference league will have a good impact on non-seeded teams, because as far as I know many of these leagues did not get a position in the champion league or european league l, and the last time a team from a non-seeded league won the champion league happened in 2004 when Jose Morinho coached Porto beat AS Monaco with a score of 3-0

"The main issue is that all teams from the leagues ranked below 15th in the UEFA coefficient (based on five-year performance in Europe) are now locked out of the Europa League.

Teams from Cyprus, Switzerland and Greece just miss out and will have no route into the Europa League (other than dropping into it from Champions League qualifying).

The competition has received a lukewarm reception from leagues that regularly have teams who reach the Europa League group stage, who now feel they are being blocked from competing even at the second level of European football."

Quoted from ESPN. So if I understand correctly, there is a good number of teams that is not quite that much amused by this, right? Does this mean the number of qualifying ranks for the European League is simply removed for some countries? I don't get quit it.

What happens to teams like Villareal or Benfica or Lazio?

@mv1986 if what you’re saying is true then this ranking system is a disaster, and it’s only a matter of time before the fans realise this and protest against it. Furthermore I wouldn’t be surprised if UEFA changes thr rankings system after fans start protesting against it, but till then we will have to wait and see how it goes from here.

today the first qualifying round in the new conference league was drawn and these are now the matches ... i must admit, all clubs with very exotic names Grin Cheesy
-snip-
That's why it is called Qualification Round Cheesy
Many of these teams will disappear in later stages and we will see how relevant this Conference League will be starting from group stage or in worst cases from round of 16.

Indeed this competition might be interesting since there will be some clubs from CL and EL that will join it, in addition to Spurs, Roma, Lazio, Leverkusen, Marseille...
Until now I am a little puzzled about how it is working, this site may help getting more info in addition to the access list.
Of course this is the first edition, I don't expect much attention in the beginning but at some point we will follow it and speculate about its games Wink

Yeah, and am sure the smaller nations will look forward to historic brushes with these big guys if they make it to group stage;) Also not clear from access routes but we'll eventually find out!

@snipe I feel this League will be a gamblers paradise because we will easily be able to spot the strong teams, and then wager on them and the chances of upsets will also be very low. Also I wonder if it’ll get the same response like Champions League and Europa League gets, what are you’ll thoughts on this.

My thoughts exactly. I did score good value bets on Europa but for me, opposite of you, curious to see if we can get nice exotic value odds when teams meet the likes of Marseille and Lazio who seem to be headed for meltdown.

I guess that this is the place, where the financially poor football clubs from Eastern Europe will have a chance to win a European trophy. The Champions League and Europa league are reserved for the ultra-rich and the medium sized football clubs.UEFA wants more European tournaments, because this will bring them more revenue from sponsors.
The Super league has failed, but the greediness of UEFA has no limits.

With the European Conference League competition, of course, this makes football teams from low-middle coefficient leagues such as the Czech Republic, Poland, Finland and others, have a great opportunity to be able to play in European competitions, because so far European competitions are too often dominated by clubs from the top leagues in Europe such as Spain, England, and Italy.
The unique thing is that the European Conference League uses a pyramid system like in the domestic league, namely the Champions of the Europa League get an automatic ticket to the Champions League group phase, while the winners of the Conference League get direct entry to the Europa League.
But until now there is no data that says how much prize the winner of the European conference league will get.
Does anyone know how much the prize is?

Even though I'm not from Europe, I really like and follow the main European tournaments very closely.
I had already seen some news about this "third division", but I confess that I know very little about the teams that can be part of it.

It's nice to see that UEFA is giving space so that smaller teams also have the chance to compete at a mainland level, but I ask locals (from Europe), are there "good" teams to make a quality third division?
I ask this because here in America I doubt that Conmebol can do the same.

I can answer this for sure,,, because my beloved team Spurs will be competing in this season Conference,,, for failing to get in UCL and Europa:) I believe I have a good team just with poor management and bad decisions from the top. But they still have the England captain and South Korean captain playing for them, so that must be a good quality team right?

Remember also there were a time when AC Milan was very far down the league so for sure always quality teams in Conference:)

I remember this upcoming competition. I think it was also you who told me this in another thread. The "third-tier" doesn't sound great but it is what it is hehe. Can we have the basic rules like how many leagues will participate and how many teams per league?

As snipie asked I created this thread, I did. Was initially not sure if there would be interest -- a chance for all you supporters to show you care for your clubs eh?Wink

Will update the next post with current season details and use this to keep the thread pertinent... unlike the mistakes of the first two threads above heh.
