SP20 not working since this am.
I can see it on the network, ethernet is green, but I see double blinking of the yellow light.

can this be fixed by SD-card or is this most likely the controller?

If SD-card, then is there a procedure for a Mac (preferably) or Windows (7 or XP)?
Thanks

Yeah, check http://www.spondoolies-tech.com/blogs/technical-blog/13098521-sp10-sp2x-sp3x-recovery-sd-card-boot-sd-card-creation-instructions. There is a procedure for Mac/Win/Linux

If you have to heat it up, my 2 cents if that you have a component that is having a bad contact.

It will start heated up or cooled down in an air conditioned environment.  Heating up is only required prior to starting it in the non HVAC environment.  SD boot is required for both.

I had another SP20 die after a power outage today.  Unlike previous times a SD boot card didn't fix this one completely.  I did get it going again, sort of.  I'm sharing my notes on this in case it helps anyone else:

Symptoms: After a power outage the SP20 would not boot (no green/yellow LEDs, fan didn't spin down and back up, no web interface, etc.).  SD boot would boot the miner, but only in an air conditioned environment.  As soon as I put the miner back into the non air conditioned environment it wouldn't SD boot any longer (same symptoms as after the outage).

Initially I thought the problem was thermal related since it worked in the air conditioned environment, so I tested this theory by running a hair dryer through the miner for 60 seconds before starting it in the air conditioned environment with the hair dryer still running.  To my surprise, despite being hot to the touch, it started up just fine.  The problem was not specifically temperature related.  Also to my surprise when I returned it to where it is usually kept in the garage it also started right up, but only one time.  When I unplugged/replugged it it would no longer boot.  After trying dozens of times I brought it back into the house and repeated the 60 seconds with a hair dryer and returned it to the garage.  Once again it started up fine.  I repeated this a third time with the same result.  I do not know why this works-- my current hypothesis is that something humidity related stops the miner from booting, but once booted it runs fine.

So, I have a SP20 that works only after performing a strange procedure with a hair dryer.  I do not know how long this procedure will continue to work.  Maybe this will help someone else bring theirs back to life.

After 4 months i just booted my sp20, working pretty well with new fan (reversed fan) I'm using 2.6.7 firmware should I upgrade to new firmware? or what's the stable firmware at the moment?

So no one knows anything about 2.7.1 vs. 2.6.14?

There's a response from Spondoolies about this on their "official thread" in this same forum. That thread is pretty quiet now, so you won't have to go too far back to find it.

I don't recall the details, but my general impression is that there was no compelling reason to change to 2.7.1. It doesn't sound like it had much testing, and that it was "honest to God, last one".

Please write back here if you come to a different conclusion.

Has anyone had this issue:

I changed voltages like always (running my miners from 1000-1300Ghs). The miner hung up. When I tried to reboot, it didnt start anymore. One of the 4 PCIe sockets seems damages. As soon as I pull out the cable of this one, the miner will boot and mine with 3 of 4 asics, 75% power. As soon as I provide the 4th socket with a cable again, the miner wont boot.

I cant figure out, where the problem is and what I can do.. It cant be that a part of the miner "burns" when switching voltages lower?? As stated, I never pushed them higher than 1300 or lower than 1000.

I had exactly the same issue.
Have been running my SP20s at 1300Ghs for months.
A few weeks ago decided to implement voltage switching, to save some electricity during the peak hours by running them at 1000Ghs.
Coincidence or not - 2 weeks later 2 of my SP20s died.
I have burned elements, looks like the chokes have cracked.

Had the same issue but no dmg on the connector. Dmg was on the board. Looks like you have a faulty half board (2 ASIC). Check the  number of the connector, Like 4 would the last two ASIC in the UI (0-1-2-3-4-5-6-7) so that would be ASIC 6 and 7.

Start your machine with only the 3 PCI-E conencted... try to manual turn off ASIC 7 and retry with 4 connectors, if it's not working try with only 6. Otherwise, your only chance to fix would be an RMA ...

You can also play with the Voltage (lowering it) to see if they will revive.

I had a faulty ASIC (i think it's 3) and 4 died not long after.

A new firmware release for the SP20 is a surprise to me as well. I figured that they were done working on the SP20 for bigger and better things. I too would like to know what is changed in 2.7.1 compared to 2.6.14.

You are not reading the threads very well.  you are running your gear far too fast.
while sp-tech claimed 1700gh + /- 10 %
it was not that true.  this is clearly stated just about everywhere on this thread.
also once you go over 1400gh the gear pulls far more power per gh.
running your gear at 1590gh is reckless.

If you got it for free and your power is free it is still reckless.  your temps are just about maxxed. at 120 and 125 c

lower your gh until it gets to 1400gh.

Think of it this way.  I own a KIA Forte.  I live 60 miles from Atlantic City.
You want a ride from me. My Kia can go 100 MPH if I am on a flat road.
So I can drive you to AC at 100mph. Or we can drive at 70mph.
Please slow down your gear will last longer and use less power.

Hi, I need help understanding the new page ASICS STATS the SP20. I have 3 SP20 and for a while I noticed that two of them undermined around 60 mhs unless the 3rd.

With the new version of fw on page asics stats I see that (ffffffff) at the end of each record but the SP20 that undermined unless there is a record with a different letter, for example (fffffdff).

I wonder whether this indicates that there is some ASIC chip damaged or not recognized because it is the only thing different that I visualize in asic stats page.

I wonder whether this indicates that there is some ASIC chip damaged or not recognized because it is the only thing different that I visualize in asic stats page.

thx

Anyone have a good grasp on the amount of amps these would pull from the wall on 220v?

sure if you run at sane speeds  1200gh to 1400gh

you do  650 watts to 850 watts

so  650/220 = about 2.95 amps

 and 850/220 = about  3.86 amps

They can be pushed over 1400 but think of it as higher risk of killing the miner.  they also pull far more power as you get past 1400

Awesome. Thank you sir

help someone please .. my sp20 is a brickhead and i cant get it to stop.. i tried recovery SD and boot img.. nothing works!
lights in ethernet port light up when its plugged, and big orange light for a few sec on startup.. but not much more than that Sad

i used 32gb sd card formatted fat32.. is that not the road to recovery?

i leave sd card in while i perform manual reboot with power cord ... then i let it reboot and sit for ~15 minutes with power, its quite uneventful- nothing happens.. especially no christmas lights

so the sd card is blank?  I know you did a format.  but I believe you need a formatted card with an image set with mining info.

go to this link read it.

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.11769785

since Pt0x has done 5 sd cards and knows how to do them ask him how.

maybe he would mail a good one to you if you ask him.

Thanks philipma ur a helpful dude.. I already solved this issue.. It wasn't formatted but it worked when I set the image from linux kernel instead of windows software.. Only in boot disk mode which is fine I suppose. Recovery doesn't want to be reasonable
