Anyway it is not possible to suspend all economic activity for the next 12-18 months. Along with other economic activities, sporting activities must be allowed to resume. No one is going to benefit, if all the sports events are cancelled and the players sit at home. The events should be allowed to resume, after making sure that strict crowd-control and social distancing measures are in place.
They will be resuming shortly, who knows if by June some will already take their place but with application of new normal rules.

12-18 months for me is too much, some news said that we'll be having the vaccine probably after 6 months so we expect that these sporting events will get back again.

I stand with Ukraine.
There are now lots of news about the vaccine. Although still a test, possibly will be available next year so clearly, NOT THIS YEAR.

The sports industry is a big help to the economy. If other industries or sectors of business are still down, where do you think guys will the government get their fundings?

We still have 6-7 months to go before the end of the year and there is no exact timeline when will the vaccine be available next year, the question again, for those who choose letter A, how will all the people in sports industry especially the lower ones can survive their daily life now that they have to wait until next year.

With the rumors spreading around that development of vaccine can take about another year or so, it will bring lot of disappointment among the players as most of the sports could not be resumed until covid-19 is over and the vaccine is developed for its treatment.

I think there's also rumors that the sports will resume provided it will be played without audience, I think this would make the players happy as they can somehow play even if it's not the normal but the new normal of the world. There salary might be affected but they'll be willing to take that than not playing at all and get nothing, it's their industry, they would help to recover this industry despite of the pandemic.

That would be step in the right direction, imo. I heard it's hard for players to play without hearing the support from their fans, but they won't be completely without audience, after all. Millions of people around the world will be watching them playing. I think with current technologies it would be not so hard to adapt to the new realities. For example, I would place loudspeakers on the stands of the stadium half of which connected the fans of a team A via the Internet, and another half connected the fans of a team B. In this way, fans would be able to express their emotions and to be heard. ... Something like that.

I mean, we shouldn't wait for a vaccine. It can take ages. We should start doing something right now.

At least, in your country, the sports events concern with people lives, so they make some prevention from the virus. That is necessary because we don't know who is the carrier, and the pandemic not ended yet. By selecting the people who will be allowed in that event can help the sports to keep alive so people will have another entertainment while they stay at home.

In my country as ban lifted with only some social distancing as well rules to follow, some sports facility were already open. Though not yet into big event but with some prevention in main facility services sports can still be done on our own or small groups,no crowd needed but only the players and some people to live it can be a good option to still keep the sport alive, though only into some sport

Most sports events are halted, suspended, postponed, and canceled because of the pandemic virus for about to 1-2 months now. Within that short period, the damage is serious so I can't imagine if it will take a year or over.

Seen several posts here about the vaccine that should be made first before resuming. It makes sense and the best thing to do but providing the timeframe of creating a vaccine against Covid-19 that might take a year(s), is the world can afford to wait for that vaccine?

So what do you think?

a) wait for the vaccine even it will take years, end of the discussion

b) resume slowly with several considerations such as no audience, limited number of staffs or any important things to do before considering resuming, unless the area or place was heavily affected

Since it's almost impossible to expect a vaccine until the end of the year or maybe the 3rd quarter of the next year, I will go with B but with lots of considerations (But I'm hoping I'm wrong. We all want the vaccine and experts around the world are truly working hard for it).
Im guessing that is how it is supposed to be Until there is no vaccine we should not do any gathering or events that have a huge crowd its really easily we cannot risk people's life just because we want something. For sure the situations are just going to be worst if we continue to do sports events even there is no vaccine available today. Even if we slowly open them we cannot completely kill the virus may be in some countries where the people are completely disciplined by the law. It might take years because we could go back to our normal life if there is no vaccine that is available. It will be easier as soon as we have the vaccine for sure shipping etc is going to be fast.

There are very few doubts in my mind that sports will come back sooner rather than later but they will do so without public, this is not really a problem for sports and leagues that enjoy a huge popularity among fans all around the world but it is going to be a problem for those that cannot generate enough profits just with the television rights, so the selection of sports at our disposal is going to diminish greatly from what we are used to but it will be better than the alternative that we have now of almost no sport taking place.

I'm not really a fan of fear-mongering and such, but the concerns of the governments are fully justified when it comes to allowing such events with crowds. Sure, sports events coordinators/associations can hold fights/tournaments, but only exclusive to essential people that need to be there, and of course that excludes fans and spectators. If scientists and researchers see that the virus does not progress at such an alarming rate, perhaps there would be no quarantines whatsoever that have been put into place anywhere. Then again it poses a different kind of threat compared to the flu that's why they are acting this way.

I'm sure most sports associations have laid out their plans to the respective authorities that govern them, so I'm pretty sure that we will be seeing sports actions sans live audiences, and I think that is better than having no sporting events at all.

It is difficult to guarantee the safety of every person if their is still no solution to this virus. It can be easily spread without knowing it. Yes it may take years to discover the vaccine but if it is the best solution we have to wait for it before gping back to normal again or else we lose many more lives of not only players but also a normal individual.
No audience ? Hmm OK spunds good. Maybe the game can be broadcasted in TV so there will audience. But of course it not that simple. Disinfection of the things needed in the sports is a must, the place of the game, the condition of every individual that will go that area like the players, the coaches etc.

Here is my take about all of this. Since we have this pandemic ongoing and it disturbs a lot of industries right now, we need to find ways to continue the business but at the same time be able to help not spread the sickness by having people be far away from each other as possible. The Olympics? Of course that one needs to be suspended, and we cannot make it happen this year now because of the restrictions. But we need basically is find a way for sports events to be reached to the masses without going to arenas and stadiums and that is through the use of the Internet.

The Internet, in my opinion, has been the biggest investion man has made since the Airplane more than 100 years ago and it helps people be connected to the far reaches of the Earth without being there on that part of the world.

You can have sports events be broadcast live on Youtube, Twitch, and all other online video platforms and then people will just watch it at the comfort of their homes. I know it is very exciting to see your sports heroes in action live inside a stadium, but right now having sports broadcasts through the internet is the nearest thing we have from the real thing.

Because of the pandemic, many governments are stepping up their efforts to provide internet access to every body to as many people as they can. This is a good thing as even the people in rural areas will be able to access the internet and therefore access sports broadcasts live without going out. What was once the purpose of radio, can now be done digitally through the internet.

The best option now is really to do it via online and live streaming which is the new norm or trend now.
Of course, to support the government and the authorities in handling this pandemic everyone must comply with the protocol. Understanding the conditions and supporting each other is a good thing. Watching game after game on PC I think is not a problem for me because of habits and of course it has to do with my activities in the forum. Even without a pandemic, I often watch games at home using a PC.

It looks good because the government is letting this season continue even without spectators, I cant imagine how we should stay at home without enjoying something we usually get on weekends like football matches. We are still waiting for vaccines to be produced and traded for the whole world and that takes a lot of time from now. Let sports continue with existing protocols and meet standards, and our support will be useful for all.

No one knows when will be the vaccine be made but the event can be moved at all time because this is manageable .

I dont think there will be vaccine for the next months so sports event maybe conducted via online viewing ,and without any live fans watching.

and maybe this will help

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/fox-prepared-to-add-virtual-fans-and-crowd-noise-to-nfl-broadcasts-5249297 according to the thread is the FOX will provide computerized sounds to make crowd for the events.
The best option now is really to do it via online and live streaming which is the new norm or trend now. Thou it will limit only into few specific games like billiards, badminton etc that onlumy needs some duel or limited participants. They need to do necessary actions first to ensure they are not infected like being quarantine before they start their match. As well with few personnel's that is needed to broadcast the live game.

The very much games or sports that we can only gambling with, which is also safe for the players is through electronic games nowadays that are really popular. There just a need for their fast Internet to no t be in trouble in their playtime. Soon, esports will find way or may have ideas to still grew or operate their service amidst this pandemic.

That's possible. Quarantine them all before the fight, this will make it safer.

Its NAY! lol

I'm almost sure the computerize crowd sound will have more issues in the view of the fighters, they could just agree to have the three judges there and the teams consisting a number of witnesses to the fight, referee, bouncers and the covid guards all these are considered crowd already.

If we were to wait for the vaccine to be produced then we will be waiting for so long.
We cannot pause the sport industry for this reason - there are a lot of money behind just imagine that the whole gambling industry is supported by sports industry. If sports are stopped a big portion of the world's economy is stopped.
It takes so long for the vaccine to produced but as announce it may available probably next year. Vaccine first before anything else for the safety of the users. Some business industry suffering bankruptcy because of this pandemic, so, the best options above is staying home and can do the sports events online.

Yes, vaccine first.
We are all in a financial problem this past weeks and I bet those businesses are being hit hard.

They can't afford to keep on wasting money to test players every game and also that is time consuming.
Worse, all the profits from pay per view or however they will broadcast it will just be for test kits for the next game.  Cry
