Although ethereum is a powerful coin with potential, I think it can never replace bitcoin. Look at the history of the cryptocurrency market, you'll understand why I say that. But if one day really passes the ethereum bitcoin, I think that altcoins will get rid of bitcoin hegemony. If this happens, the altcoins are not affected much by the bitcoin movement. but as I said, something like this is very difficult or even impossible bitcoin is always the king of the crypto money market. and will continue to be so

this is a question that seems to be a circle of concern for many investors and holders, because top-ranking coins are always questioned about their potential to last for a long time, as bitcoin is replaced by ethereum and so is ethereum which might be replaced by coins below. this is clear if these two coins have good potential to be irreplaceable because most exchanges and even new projects will pair their tokens to these two coins

It has zero potential to replace bitcoin. It is a pipeline dream.

ETH has nothing over BTC, it is not faster not much more scalable.
You say " smart contracts" ,I say it is bullshit noone uses them besides ICOs which are dying. NEO has better potential than ETH .

They both work really differently so I don't really see it fair nor the point to compare.

Ethereum, being the world's second largest cryptocurrency by market cap, has all the potential of replacing Bitcoin in the future. It's more than just a cryptocurrency, being a platform for the development and execution of smart contracts (aka dApps). With ETH, it's possible to launch alternative cryptocurrencies without the need to start a Blockchain from scratch. It's also possible to use the ETH blockchain for other purposes such as voting, proof of identity, verification of documents, and more. In contrast, Bitcoin's only use is for finance where it cannot be implemented in other areas by its own.

Given all of the benefits Ethereum provides on top of Bitcoin, it makes me wonder whenever it'll be able to replace the pioneer cryptocurrency within the future? As long as, Ethereum keeps progressing in development and mainstream acceptance, it'll be much closer to Bitcoin every step of the way. What are your thoughts? Huh

in my opinion now Ethereum is far superior to Bitcoin because the developments and advancements made by Ethereum are extraordinary.. even though the price of Bitcoin is far superior to the price of Bitcoin.. so I think Ethereum has been superior in terms of development and platform progress.. but in terms of price in my opinion Bitcoin is very difficult to be replaced by any Altcoin that is competing right now..

In some ways you are right but I do not like that you cannot mine eth tokens. I think maybe some you can but not the same way as eth. Unless I am much mistaken? It would be nice to be mistaken then I can find something new to mine.

The world was nothing but just total chaos, the world started by a very known bigbang. When knocking the door of cryptocurrencies, the bigbang here is Bitcoin, the holycurrency since 2009. It's cristal-clear that ethereum will never surpass  Bitcoin, stop dreaming. Peoples will never sell all their holding in btc for eth, even you, the person reading this.. You won't sell but you'll stick with your precious btc because it is the most trusted currency here. Don't dream too much, dreams still dreams, they might never happen.

to me, that is a very normal thing.  Think about it, a business that always brings value to the entire crypto community and always dedicates itself to technology and the future is compared to an unmanaged enterprise and technology is becoming obsolete.  You already know who won.  I know that bitcoin will dominate the CMC for a long time, but I also believe that one day bitcoin will be worthless.  At that time, blockchain technology would officially take the throne.

Its not good nna happen. Bitcoin is always on the top and it will. People have their trust in bitcoin and the and more than 55% of whole market cap is in bitcoin. Its not about ether , I think nothing can replace bitcoin.
In the present condition seems bitcoin dominance will not be replaced by others but this does not prove that there will be no changes in the market in the future. In the market that has changed so much after 10 years, it is hard to predict what will happen in the next 10 years. Even when the regulations begin, maybe centralized ones will move to the top, which I think would not be a surprise.

I think that ethereum will never replace bitcoin in the sense in which we are now discussing this. Also, other types of cryptocurrencies will not be able to do this. At the same time, this does not mean at all that Bitcoin will always be the leader of the cryptocurrency and will dominate in price terms. Over time, its price dominance will disappear, leadership seems to be the same, but this is not necessary. Most likely, in the future we will have several leaders and none of them will be able to exert price dominance on other types of cryptocurrencies. The situation in the future will not be able to repeat exactly. The world is developing cyclically, but not in a circle, but in a spiral. This means that we are returning, however, at a new level. Moreover, there are many development options.

This is very unlikely at this time, as Bitcoin is still the major trading pair, ETH is showing signs of slowing down! The future is still ahead, things can still change! But I always believe BTC more than ETH
a long time ago, ETH has always been rumored to be one of the coins that have the potential to surpass BTC. but unfortunately, the demand for BTC is always greater than ETH. in addition, the rise of bitcoin dominance a few days ago also became evidence that bitcoin was needed more than other coins, even ETH.

well, if one day ETH dominates, and replaces bitcoin, the answer is quite simple, just change your focus from bitcoin to ETH. Besides that, I think most investors have bitcoin and Ethereum in their wallets.

only negative thing about a etherium is unlimited supply when ether enter to pos stage that can be a huge opportunity for project and investors.

It will be difficult to move the first cryptocurrency in the World! Investors are more interested in Bitcoin as the accumulation and storage of $, and Ethereum is more attractive in terms of regular transactions due to small fees and decentralized applications for developers based on the Ethereum system. Therefore, I believe that Bitcoin will be No. 1.

Good point. Bitcoin's store of value properties will surely catch the eye of many investors over time. Unlike Ethereum, Bitcoin has a limited supply with a constantly decreased block reward. In no way, could Ethereum replace Bitcoin as it's meant to be used as "fuel" for the world's decentralized applications. With an unspecified max supply, Ethereum could experience a drastic inflationary rate over time. We all know that Ethereum serves well its purpose as "digital cash" than anything else. While ETH might not be able to replace Bitcoin after all, it could very well complement it in the future. It's no secret that Bitcoin is only useful for finance while Ethereum is an indispensable tool for the launch or creation of censorship-resistant dApps. Where Bitcoin cannot fulfill certain tasks, Ethereum will fill the gaps. The advanced features of ETH greatly expands Blockchain's capabilities like never before. However, it's that complexity which makes Ethereum somewhat unreliable (unlike Bitcoin).

In the end, it's believed that Bitcoin will remain in its rightful place on the market (as the #1 cryptocurrency of the world), while Ethereum maintains its second place in market dominance. With the ever-increasing development and innovation from both sides (ETH and BTC), you could expect the Blockchain industry to improve like never before. After all, Ethereum's ambitions is to become the "world computer" instead of the dominant cryptocurrency of the market. We'll just have to wait and see what happens within the crypto space over the long term, in order to determine ETH's true place within the mainstream world. But so far, it's been doing good retaining its rightful place on the market as the second largest cryptocurrency by market cap. Hence, both BTC and ETH will grow alongside each other for many generations. Just my opinion Smiley

And why not EOS?

Because EOS is a failed centralized project with no adoption and just few running nodes.
Just one more of Dan Larimer failed projects.

Can't be compared to Ethereum ever.

Of course, Ethereum is an excellent platform and cryptocurrency, and could very well become the first on the market. But Ethereum most likely has other tasks, and the creators have plans for this cryptocurrency. Still, I am inclined to believe that Ethereum was not something that could not be the first, but most likely it does not need it and it does not resemble the role of the first cryptocurrency due to the tasks that it needs to perform. Bitcoin was the first and most likely its task and to remain the first further.

It's hard to predict because prediction is like an expectation and I don't think that someday Ethereum will replace Bitcoin. We knows that Bitcoin is always on highest and yes Ethereum also on top of the market due to their popularity but Bitcoin will remain forever on top because it's unstoppable.

Ethereum and bitcoin are still in high popularity, if we look at the price, Ethereum still lags far behind bitcoin. Ethereum is still trying to get back up after having a hard time, At present, it is very unlikely that Ethereum can replace bitcoin. But if to compete or approaching it can still happen.

In everyones mind bitcoin and ethereum is the same , and we wish that bitcoin will be replace by ethereum
the answer is No why?
the reality is that bitcoin will be never be replace by ethereum simply because they are not the same
and there usage is much different as we know
bitcoin is made for the reason as an alternative for our money, while ethereum in the other hand to make it simple for everyone to understand
is made to have transaction, directly with other person there is no need to have like a middleman, is the example
you can buy an item the pay it directly to the owner no need to like your gonna go to the bank then pay,
you can send money directly to the seller, thats what ethereum's function
