I don't bother much with new alt coins to be honest, but those I trust passed the following criteria upon closer research (ie. whitepaper, about page, announcement thread):

1) Does it smell like bullshit?

2) Does the problem they are trying to solve actually exist?

3) Does their solution look technically solid and viable?

Most alts don't even pass the first point in my book. Too much crypto-babble abound and too many cash-grabs.

Exactly...

1) or sounds to good to be true

Simple, Solid Answer.

How they react to when accusations happen. Like if they act like babies, they're most likely babies. Something else to look at is their legal / developmental team. If they have a lot of experience / have worked at big companies before, then it's a good idea that you can trust them.

Since bitcoin is gaining popularity, so many developer are come with unique and good idea. They just to make better coin but most of their investor are lost and leave the coin after take profit from pump.
It is really a difficult thing to put your trust on something which is new to market. You can only trust some coin if he is having a good reputation in the market and you are sure enough that your money will not be lost. Till the time you don’t feel that your money will be safe and that you are going to earn profit by investing your money, I don’t think so that someone will invest his money.

You need to know about the project. It is important to understand and investigate it.
Of course, what is most important is how popular it is.
Exactly that makes sense. Whenever you are going into something new, you have to interrogate and investigate the whole case properly so that nothing is hidden from you. Same is the case with altcoins, they are not much popular than bitcoins so more care have to be taken in this regard. And popularity, yes that is one factor of measuring the level of coin. Good luck to you.

When i trust a new altcoin, i will try to understand its details, strengths and weaknesses, then invest the correct amount of money into it and wait until the price to the point where I accept and sell it.
Some new altcoins do get pumped which is what makes the price to surge pretty fast than the amount you got it.

In this period, I always sell and save the profit in a wallet for future as we have seen so many of them increase in value a lot and then buy again later on when the value dips which is a pretty good way for me to make some profit and also have most of the coins without breaking sweat.

My opinion . People tend to favor investing in new altcos, especially altoin from ICO projects, as it will be easy to attract whales and potential investors to develop that altcoin and be sure will last for 1 year. They will then try to dump the altcoin back to its original location

The truth is that most shit coins do x100 but for me to go long term on a coin then I have to trust it. Following up the devs to make sure they are active. I don't care if they are who they say they really are. My concern is their community, is it active?  when they make announcement do they deliver. I always consider all that before I trust a coin.

If there is a new altcoin created by a company page, we should need to understand the details why they are created. If you think that the reason is reasonable then maybe that should be trusted, sometime I go to etherdelta to know if that coin is already there or does it have already a value.

Always look at their white paper and road map if it's timely and realistic.
If the ICO had already have a product then it's also a plus. It's hard to trust new coins these days so the only you can trust now is your sub conscious mind that tells whether you you'll go or not.

I read their entire task and why they have made the new coin. On the off chance that there is a legitimate purpose behind making such coin at exactly that point I continue assist since I realize that if the coin doesn't have any motivation to be made then it won't stick around for additional time. At that point comes the exploration about the organization, where they are from, the designers, their capacities and identities and so on.

what you are talking about is altcoin result from ICO? if yes, I only believe in some altcoin only, and that too by looking at their vision and mission. Some of the advantages I often get when new altcoins come in on the exchange, the price will mostly go down before then go up again. there's my chance to take advantage.
usually most altcoins these days from ICOs, no matter how good the project is still always experience some dumps at some point which is always the best time I always feel it is even good to buy, even though it might not be as less as the ICO price.

A coin with a good support will always soar, unfortunately though, most investors are just looking for an outright profit from ICOs than a long term investment in the peoject.
It is because of the reason that long term investment demands too much of patience and it is most tiring process as it takes a lot of time before some money comes in your pocket. Introduction of some new altcoin in the world of crypto currency can bring lot of good things for the investors and believers of crypto currency. It will only make its good name if it managed to develop the relationship of trust amongst the peoples.

I have many basis to trust, i admit i judge some ico because of its new and i think it won't that much needed before, but now i'm learning and i use to trust the projects base on what is their aims in the future more than on its short term goals especially with the team background if they are trusted.

what makes me trust an altcoin is team and developers, I always check the portfolios of the team member and see how the code quality in their GitHub repository because they are the backbone of the altcoin, then the community, how's the community in the project, does it a lot, does it supportive and etc, and last is marketing how's the marketing effort of team, how does the bounty quality, last is good and achievable roadmap

Every new altcoin released is accompanied by a development project and that's what I can trust in that altcoin. When deciding to invest in a new altcoin, it is important to look closely at the development project, you have to predict whether such projects can attract investment and can develope or not. That helps you choose the right altcoin to invest.

Mostly i am more interested in roadmaps, whitepapers and real use case scenario. Some of the new coins are more of hype and massive marketing without even working platform.

I personally invest in an altcoin which I have knowledge with the project they are doing. Im an engineer and make some good investment in a real state and building construction related altcoin. The most important thing to consider in an altcoin is the project and the team who develops the project. Altcoin has a good future if it will catched the majority and has realistic concept.
