It’s a good idea to have a balanced portfolio and not put all your eggs in one basket. Bitcoin is the most dominant and secure cryptocurrency, but altcoins can also offer innovation and diversity. However, timing the market is very difficult and risky, especially in crypto where volatility is high.

In my opinion, the next altcoin pump goes hand in hand with the bitcoin pump which will most likely occur during the next bitcoin halving. Therefore, my advice is that you better hold on to altcoins and wait for the next pump because now is not the right time to sell bitcoins or altcoins.

The next alt-coins session we determine by next Bull run, because, during the Bull run, alt-coins wake up by adding value's, which is the driving force of Bitcoin and Ethereum in cryptocurrency industries market, therefore alt-coins has session and this is the session of investment.

altcoin season will occur if the price of Bitcoin increases very high and reaches its ATH price, then that's when the price of altcoin will definitely increase very high, so my advice is if you want to cover your altcoin to Bitcoin, then you have to sell your altcoin during altcoin season and hold on USDT, then when a bear market occurs (correction) and it's the right time for you to swap your USDT to Bitcoin.
The impact of Bitcoin prices is very influential for altcoins because without the support of increasing bitcoin prices, altcoins will never reach high increases except just because hype and altcoin news are only temporary trends among trading community groups, so your advice is very good to cover altcoins to bitcoin to buy bitcoins at low price.

I have decided I have too many altcoins in my portfolio and want to convert up to half of them into Bitcoin but I am waiting for the next pump like we saw in January to do this as don't want to convert while my altcoins are 20% down.

I have only been in crypto last 12 months so not that experienced when it comes to understanding cycles. Do we have any idea when the next altcoin season is due?

I think now is entering the altcoin season, because if you look at market movements since the beginning of the year, bitcoin and altcoins have been increasing slowly but surely, and I don't think the bull market will stop here.
Charts have been red for a few weeks now and I dont think there are any signs of reversing as of yet. When altcoin season starts usually bitcoin catalyses it and pushes it for the uptrend before stopping itself and then the altcoins start bleeding out. But the bitcoin pump comes first unless some altcoin is able to make the headlines with some positive news, like Litecoin forking a few year back or ethereum having a new launch.

Still dont wait for the altcoin season to come but take your decisions before that. If you plan for buying, place orders on a market and let it be. In my opinion the seasons start without telling anyone on this forum.

You can sell your altcoins now before it gets even worse, alt coins aren't going to pump soon and even when they do, only the big projects with high market cap will pump because they have the most trust at the moment from investors.

The altcoins season is coming after Bitcoin cross its previous all time high because that's when people will start believing we are in a bull market and for that to happen, Bitcoin halving has to have been done which is happening next year.

Sometimes it's better to take some loss and move on than to lose it all because we were waiting for a recover but the market or that particular project didn't recover. If you want to buy Bitcoin, don't hesitate, buy it immediately.

I agree Bitcoin is safest long term hold but don't want to sell my altcoins now.

I have some altcoins that are up , some even and some as much as 25% down but feel they will recover.

Some may go to zero but as long as a couple do well next bull run I will be up.
it's not wrong if you really want to keep holding altcoins that have been held for a long time, but you have to make sure that the altcoins you are holding are altcoins that have the certainty that they will be able to increase when entering the bull market, for that you still need to analyze the altcoins correctly.
but it's also not wrong if you want to change altcoins to bitcoins, because it's definitely more convincing than altcoins, because bitcoin is more certain because the era of the halving occurred, it's certain that bitcoin will reach its highest level.
so holding bitcoin and altcoins is just as good if you are sure and believe that what you are doing has been properly analyzed.

Next alt season could happen after BTC hits its new ATH. Your decision of converting half of your alts to BTC is an awesome idea. Maybe you realize that BTC is much better to hold than the altcoins. Am I right? If these alts we are talking about are potential altcoins, then it is not wrong to wait for a while to be able to get the best rates but if they are just a normal altcoin and you are doubting on them, you better sold them now before they drop more or worse become a dead coin.

12 months of experience seems fine but if you join last year, then you are right. You may lack experience in terms of cycles because last year was mostly composed of a bear market. You may not experience a bull run yet but don't worry because we are close to it.
a wise decision by converting several altcoins to bitcoin, especially if it is a new altcoin, so it is better to hold bitcoin, but it is different when investing in top altcoins, it is possible that there is still a big chance to increase. so it's not good if you only choose bitcoin to invest, unless our investment funds are in large numbers, but to maximize profits for me I have to be accompanied by altcoin investments

I think you are wrong about altseason not being anytime soon. Almost the whole market is growing now and it looks like the beginning of altseason is now. Look at the market capitalisation of altcoins or the bitcoin dominance chart. All indications are that a good market growth may start soon. Bitcoin does not need to break a new price high for the altseason.

Hope you are right  Grin

I think if it is not starting now then definately will be in the next few months.

it has been a long 12 months hopefully it will soon be time where our patience pays off!
Altcoins have been falling for almost several years. Bitcoin has only been growing for four months. As soon as bitcoin has a sideways movement, altcoins will immediately start to race. I think it will start soon, if it hasn't already. Some coins are already growing nicely. It's just a matter of waiting for the rest.

I agree that investing in bitcoin and altcoins with a big market cap is the best investment and will provide maximum profit when bullish, but there are some new projects deliberately waiting for bullists to list in the hope of getting the best price. the profit that can be obtained from a new project is usually greater than from an old altcoin, but still DWYOR because the risks involved are also large.

As long as you are choosing altcoins that have a working product, it will certainly be pumping once the market is bullish. We can really say that altcoins are more profitable than Bitcoin for short-term plans and so people are buying them. Besides, it was a good choice either especially for hyped riders, they'll make money too easy. Because what I see is that investing Bitcoin is only good for long-term, we can take them during the bear season and then take altcoins when the bull season is coming near.

Bitcoin has been doing well in recent months but nothing yet from the altcoins.

Is it normal for altcoins to follow months after Bitcoin?

I am patiently waiting for the altcoins to have a pump so I can put profits into Bitcoin.

It is definitely hard to keep up, I am not saying that it will not be possible to do so, but it is also not an easy thing just because it is possible. Altcoin season may happen after we see bitcoin go up a little bit more, of course its going to take a while and we should be all ready for it, but at the end of the day just because bitcoin rises, doesn't mean all alts would, and not all rises in altcoins means its the "season", like where people crazily buy stuff and all. Which means that all in all we would not be really capable of predicting the season part that easily. Easiest part to say is that it will happen when the general bull run comes and bitcoin breakout, that would be the safest bet.
The point is that no one knows for sure when altcoin season will occur, but one thing is certain, which is that it will coincide with a bitcoin boom, and once again we don't know exactly when it will be. There are a number of things that must be considered, during the altcoin season it does not mean that all altcoins are feasible, still we have to analyze which altcoins are feasible for us to invest in to get profits in the altcoin season. This usually happens to beginners, they only see the word "season" so they think all altcoins are the same, even though that is something wrong.
It seems to me that the most likely scenario that will lead to a massive increase in TOTAL2 and bring the start of the altcoin season closer will be a slight decrease or consolidation of the BTC price.

Nobody can really tell when the altcoins season will began or when it will end.Have to wait for the next bull run and see what happens next.Currently Btc have been bullish for sometime now but that is not the same with altcoins there are yet to start their own run,so we have to wait with and see.
