Altcoin season usually depends on Bitcoin price movement because when Bitcoin pumps and gets a stable price then altcoins start pumping hard. And also there are many indicators to know about the altcoins bull run. I think it's time to hold altcoins as very soon we may see altcoin season if Bitcoin price pumps and gets stable. It may happen very soon as Bitcoin is bullish now.
If bitcoin will not be pumped and altcoin will not too. It's all follow bitcoin patter. Bitcoin is everything right now. As you can see that how people look very optimistic once the price of bitcoin is starting to increase. i expect the same thing to happen with altcoin as well. it's just the matter of time until bitcoin will pumped so hard and then altcoin will be following it as soon as possible. I can't wait for the big bullish trend to happen again very soon. try to buy many altcoin as much as i can

I have decided I have too many altcoins in my portfolio and want to convert up to half of them into Bitcoin but I am waiting for the next pump like we saw in January to do this as don't want to convert while my altcoins are 20% down.

I have only been in crypto last 12 months so not that experienced when it comes to understanding cycles. Do we have any idea when the next altcoin season is due?
Anyone who claims that they know when the next altcoin bullrun is, is outright lying to you. No one knows and everyone is guessing. There are ton of different ways people are doing technical analysis but no one can give you definite answer.

If there would be a way to know, then everyone would try to time their investments in a same way.

And wven if you would know when the next altcoin bullrun is, there are no guarantees that altcoins you invested into, would be part of that run

honestly I think right now we are already in altcoin season, it's just the general public don't have idea that it's already happening and it's centered around the l2s which got massive funding from the ventures. if you think massive funding and increase in many of l2 doesn't reflect altcoin season then I wonder what does.

I could say that the next altcoin season is when it reach its price before or the price is the same as the last season or should I say bull run. All you can do is wait dor Bitcoin to recover its price then you can say that it's also altcoin season when that happen.
We might seeing it already because the market is getting better but then again, a possible can take place so be cautious about this and invest only what you can afford. If you look at the altcoins market, you can see green candles but its not a bull yet, altcoins season will happen if Bitcoin is able to pump and make its new ATH, I expect many altcoins will also follow that trend of Bitcoin.

Not knowing when it will happen is basically the biggest part of the "trust" part of this process. I mean you buy when it is low like this and you keep buying and you keep doing that all the way until the price starts going up. I am not saying that there is this trouble where it is going to be all nice and all for everyone, we all know its going to suck for some coins and tokens and it will be terrible. We shouldn't be really worried about it at all, we should just focus on what we can do, research and try to find the best things to invest. Try to avoid anything that has under 200 million dollar marketcap, the likely possibility that it won't go up much.

I like your idea, holding more on altcoins is not really a great option but I want to tell you as well that many altcoins had pumped more than Bitcoin does during the bull market. I would suggest to just keeping your potential altcoins while selling the others for Bitcoin. That 20% markdown looks like an indication that particular coin/s is not good to keep for the long term, selling them is really the best option.
Well, having 4-5 different coins including Bitcoin is really good enough preparation for the next bull season.

I also have many altcoins from the previous bearish era and they are like trash in my wallet  Cheesy Cheesy
Well, actually, Altcoin season will exist after the Bitcoin bullish season. And when the altcoin season is coming, the price of Bitcoin has been usually also higher.
So the question is: What altcoins do you have? Have they trusted ones that can survive until the next bullish era?
In my opinion, if you have got the price up already, it is better to convert to Bitcoin. But if you are waiting for the altcoin season, it may be still too way long.

it's important to remember that trying to time the market is generally considered to be a risky strategy,

as it's very difficult to predict when a particular asset or market will experience a significant upswing or downturn.

Instead, many experts recommend taking a long-term investment approach and diversifying your portfolio across different cryptocurrencies and asset classes.

True, we won't see AltSeason until we are seeing the BTC bull run. If BTC price make a movements towards ATH and reached a new ATH, usually AltSeason will occur simultaneously after the new ATH reached by BTC. And at that time before, when BTC reached ATH, we would see a decrease in the price of the BTC pair of Altcoins, but an increase with the USDT Pair. We can remember BTC Up, Alt Down, this can be happens before AltSeason.

I think for the conditions of the time no one really knows about this but in which case I'm not too sure it will come at the right time. The benchmark remains for the bitcoin halving but even then I'm still not sure altcoins will recover fully and it's likely that only coins with enough names and good projects will follow suit in this halving.
The situation remains the same for altcoins they will partially rise when bitcoin begins to return to a bull run and will collapse entirely when bitcoin corrects.
Bitcoin halving was just become one of point to determine the bullish trend but it will not always come when the halving already done. It needs time for bitcoin to increase after halving. That being said that if needs around a few years for bitcoin to increas and go to the moon. The fact that if you shall watch it and it needs around 1 or 2 years for bitcoin to increase after the halving time. It was giving long term impact. people should not expect to  see bitcoin pump asap after halving.
Yep, this is only an alternative or indeed like a stepping stone but as I said before this will not be completely alt season either. But on the other hand there are other considerations it seems because if you look at some of the previous halvings sometimes this is also not a real determinant for altcoins because they can grow in a fast and unpredictable way but indeed this is only speculation because what is needed is still waiting.

I am just waiting for something like this to happen again with either Quant or one of my other altcoins and when it does I will put a lot of the profits into Bitcoin.
Altcoin pumping while bitcoin is sleeping do happen but rarely. There should be some good action happening at the beginning of next year or earlier. We don't know if there will be more banking collapse or political events that would affect the world economy and crypto prices but you could still use that timeline as starting point before the next ATH.
And usually, bitcoin is at a stable point first and then altcoins get a big pump which makes many altcoins increase very high. We will never know when the time will come and we can only be prepared because its arrival can surprise those who are unprepared. Perhaps, after 6 months have passed, the pump signs for altcoins will come so we can prepare all our altcoins and hope that many of our altcoins will be able to reach their highs again. And if that happens, we can get a very big profit coupled with the profit from the pump that will come to bitcoin.

My assumption is it already started. I know the market is dumped now. But it will retest the support line and go to the (Bitcoin)100K in the next three months. All the altcoins are following bitcoin. So you can get more profits within the next three months.
It is unlikely that in the near future the price of bitcoin will go up so much that in three months it will reach one hundred thousand dollars. Unfortunately, there are no objective reasons for such a rapid price growth yet. Recently, the cryptocurrency market has been shaken by various bad news and, apparently, this will continue for some time. Now we expect that there will be a wave of further regulation of cryptocurrencies by states, and this will not have a very good effect on prices in this market.
Most likely, the altcoin season, as some have pointed out here, will indeed be after the Bitcoin halving in 2024. Prior to this, growth is possible, but not so strong as to be called altcoin season.

If you wait for altcoins to recover, it's the same as waiting for Bitcoin to recover. If you convert to Bitcoin, then you will get the same amount of Bitcoin as now. Because altcoins will also grow based on Bitcoin.
This is different when you convert to stablecoins. You will get different results if you convert now and you convert when the price goes up.

This is not always 100% true - I hold Quant and it pumped last October while Bitcoin was moving sideways and I should have sold then but didn't as it is one of the altcoins I believe in most and want to hold long term.

Looking back I should have took some profits though as I was over 2x at the peak of that rally in October. I am just waiting for something like this to happen again with either Quant or one of my other altcoins and when it does I will put a lot of the profits into Bitcoin.

Altseason may not depend on bitcoin growth after the halving. Remember the two altseasons in 2017. Then the halving didn't play a role anymore. Although you are partly right that the whole market should grow in 2 years. In that case, I would count on the end of 2024. But it seems to me that the local altseason will come sooner.

I also happen to have many altcoins in my many wallets and usually they don't have real value and I think most of them are just dead. Hopefully, when there can be an alt season some of them can be generating some value in some exchanges so I can sell them all as I am already tired of waiting. Some people are saying that there can be an alt run once XRP can win its case against SEC finally...but who knows. Now, in my own estimate there can really be an alt season this year though it would be not the same as we know before. Just always be watching and be hopeful you can gain some value out of your digital assets collection.

What you can do is continue to monitor the altcoin market and sell it when the price is according to what is expected, if you don't want to sell it at a loss then you can only wait as I said.
The crypto market is always going to bounce back, but not all altcoins will follow suit, only the ones that still have clear developments. If the altcoins you have are shitscoins then you will see a sharper decline, not just 20% but can be more than 50%, because holding altcoins and expecting their prices to increase is much riskier than holding BTC and selling when the price is go high.
Cycles occur once every 4 years and definitely only on Bitcoin while altcoins only follow BTC movements but not all altcoins you will see follow BTC movements because most only adjust to USD prices due to increases from BTC.

altcoin season will occur if the price of Bitcoin increases very high and reaches the ATH price, then that's when the price of altcoin will definitely increase very high, so my advice is if you want to cover your altcoin to Bitcoin, then you have to sell your altcoin during altcoin season and hold on USDT, then when a bear market occurs (correction) and it's the right time for you to swap your USDT to Bitcoin.
