Buy the top 10 coins on coinmarketcap at dips to minimize the risk of your investment because those coins are very promising with a working product and they had a strong community with active developers. just always do your own research on the particular coin before investing.
If you ask me, I don't see bitcoin as the best investment opportunity if you're looking for major increases on your investments.
I would go for ETH, IOST, IOTA, EOS to name a few, these have a good perspective on increasing a lot over a time frame of a couple years.
If you don't care about large increases, and a steady increase over the years, then bitcoin is the right fit for you.

Practically speaking, it is Bitcoin that remains to be the most important cryptocurrency investment asset though right now it seems to be experiencing some stagnation but when it can find the right breakthrough it will be explosive. Now, having said that, the next best assets for me is Ethereum and Bitcoin Cash...these two got the right team behind them and they are always in the news. You will never go wrong with Ethereum and BCH but then why not add also some promising new coins and for that you need to wade through the waters and feel the project that will be valuable. Good luck to your endeavor.
Well for me try to invest in NEO its around $52 right now. Prediction is that it would be a huge gains it the coming 2019 and NEO is trying to be the Chinese Ethereum supporting to create an entire smart community.
I would advise you to invest in Altcoins and Tokens like NEO, Waves, EOS, IOTA and similars by price and marketcaps, they are going to be huge as your profit too

In my opinion best choice for long term investment is ETH and EOS because both project give more benefits to the crypto community. Eos project has potential to growth and can be give the same return like ETH, and ETH has strong team who also make new inovation. ETH will possible to handle amillion transaction persecond with plasma, and EOS also will solved the same problem in crypto space, that is scalability issue.

besides Bitcoin which is very suitable for investment is Ethereum, Ethereum I think reliable in the future I see development very good and the price is stable so it is suitable for long-term investment.

A lot of potential coins or tokens are good for longterm investment, I consider huge market cap coins such as Ethereum, Cardano, Stellar and Neo for they have a good team and good concept. I also invest small market cap coins and tokens like Ethlend, REMME, XYO, HBZ etc. they are on my list since I always base on how these project will grow and can be used in the future. But its better to research first before investing and don't rely to anybody's opinion or suggestions.

Here are some of the possible places where you can invest your money.1. Casino (bankroll) - the profit isn't so quick and high but it's a good passive investment
2. Lending (risky) - this is risky but you can also see it's worth if you know how to run your own lending business.
3. Real estate - land never depreciates so you can rent it to others while your lands value increases yearly.
4. Gold and silver - this has to be proven one of the best investment.
5. Government bonds - a very safe investment but with low returns.
6. Stock market - very old but proven to be effective.
