I got your point and it is very true. Some people to call their God when they have their wish only.
There are something that they want to have or want to happen, maybe we should accept that in some time we became selfish.

Prayer is talk with our Heavenly Parent and creator, God.
If we really feel and believe that God is our parent and creator, than it's naural that we want to talk with him.
In the beginning, like each baby, we don't know how to talk with God, and we can't hear answer.
Later, we learn how to talk and also how to listen God's answer.
Prayer is like everyday communication in our family.

Right, some people and honestly even me sometimes we treat God as a genie and we always wish or tell something to him for what we like to happen or something we what to have and that is wrong because God is not genie or a fairy or anything else but He is our saviour.

Sometimes we try to change God's wil because we want that thing to happen to us, Even though we did not know what will be the consequences of it. Not just people is too selfish and do not care what God's planned to but sometimes we had something we want and the only way is to kneel down and pray for him to gibe us what we want. But at the end what we want will not be granted if it will be not good or us bevause God always know what is the best for us.

And for me, the right thing we must do when praying is to thank him for our safety and good health especially for our family and loved ones, and beg for his guidance in every decision we make.

Praying to God is not asking for material thing if i pray i always ask for guidance for my family and I. I think asking for material thing is not consider as praying but more of wishing, praying is not always about asking sometime we should appreciate the things God gave us.

Prayer is the master key to any situation one find himself or herself. Prayer is not just limited to Christen or Moslem but all religion pray to their God with the mind that He will answer our prayers. We pray most time not just because we are asking God for favor but most a time during the prayer we praise His Holy Name. Remember, it is written in the Holy Bible that we should pray without season.

Not everyone pray for themselves, I have seen people praying for other troubled people. It is a hope to many of us, spiritually, prayer connects us to God and it is like a request which we used to do to our parents when we need something. They know what is good for us but prayer is something through which we tell what we want.

Some pray because they think they are nearer to God when they pray. Some other people pray to feel better with themselves, praying many times give you an aura of self contentment and that is a reason why many people go to church every Sunday , to feel better. There are a lot of reasons why people pray but I believe the 2 I mentioned are the priorities why people pray.

People pray to communicate on their God. Different religion has their own ways to pray to connect. But to argue with trying to change God's will, Yes you are partly correct on to that point. People are still people they want to have what they want not what they needed, They ask for something which is beyond their control and I think that's selfish. Do I think, I know better than God? No, I myself disagree on it. Even though I have my own house, car and some luxury in life, I can live without my parents or relatives to rely on. I can't still see what's my purpose in this world, I have questions in mind that I wanted to be answered. But I do believe and I have faith that sooner or later I would understand it all.

For me Pray is for your faith, when we pray we wish that our wants/needs are will be granted as we woke up or when time that it most be in our side, but sometimes not all prayer will be grant to you, its will testify how strong and weak you are that you must change also praying for thanking God is easier than be a cadger. I'm not saying cadger is bad habit but we must or most do in praying is thanking for everything than waiting for hope that will God provide.

Perhaps you are very hinting about the situation around people praying, but the reality and I can confirm that many people come to God because of the difficulties in life or through other feelings of grief. No one has come from good to God.

you can't really demand anything of the Lord, but you can always ask.

The Lord doesn't actively deny you a thing because you don't have it. On the contrary, you have simply not asked for it yet.

And in my personal experience, the Lord will very rarely grant you a wish, that will ultimately harm you. While we are his sheep, sheep must be allowed to roam the entire pasture, despite the snares and pits. With that being said, you don't hand the kids an eight ball and a straw and say 'have fun!'.

And I will go on record as a Christian who has never heard the voice of God. Honestly, it would scare the shit right out of me, at least initially Wink

People pray for different reasons based on their belief of asking what they wanted to happen to them. If you don't pray it means you are resigning to fate in that whatever that wants to happen to happen. But with deep understanding of how things work beyond the physical, the belief is that prayer can change things, can get you things you don't deserve and because most things we get is based on subjective decision making, it then means you need to appeal to them through prayers. My contribution.

People who believe in god has to have to some way to be able to communicate with him and that would be through these prayers. I don't think its all about asking for favor or for people wanting to get positive results. Sometimes they do it to give thanks for blessings they receive, or forgiveness for any wrong they've done. It goes far beyond than just asking for something as it would one's way of communicating with their god
