People can hide their gambling habits for different reasons depending the local culture, the environment where they are gambling, the laws of the country and the moment of the day they are wagering. If common sense in your culture says gambling is a negative activity and people involved on it aren't admirable citizens, it seems likely gambling enthusiasts will try avoid being watched while betting. If they are in areas which gambling isn't allowed, such as schools and public buildings it's also natural gamblers are going to place their bets in secret.

In case your country strictly forbids the practice, then people will be even more careful everywhere when betting, because they will fear being fined and sued by local authorities due to their illegal hobby. Furthermore, it's also normal that people hide to gamble when doing this in moments of the day they shouldn't, like during worktime or when they should be doing another tasks of daily routine, such as taking care of children and household chores.

Of course this is not the best way to enjoy gambling, and it is clear that they want freedom, as it would be quite difficult for someone to express pleasure in gambling if their activities are restricted. However, as may be the case in some places, gambling is often considered a negative activity, and is even considered an illegal activity. This forces them to gamble secretly or clandestinely. They did this to avoid negative views from outside, or raids by the police.

No one feels happy enough when their pleasurable activities are limited. Playing gambling with anxiety, because you are afraid that your activities will be known by other people or security forces, this will make it quite difficult for someone to enjoy their gambling well.

Your view can be right sir but you need to look back at some cultures and norms that gambling is a bad activity and gamblers as very bad people in some parts of the world, you may need to re-read why some people why someone wants to hide their gambling activities from people and prefer to enjoy it alone or only a few people they trust.
And you also need to see why people here prefer to gamble without their identity being given to the casino, yes because gambling can be said to be a sensitive activity by some people which makes them choose to gamble secretly without anyone knowing, besides that we also know that gambling is made not only a place for fun, many of us make gambling a place to launder money and or make money there, this is also included in why someone wants their gambling activities hidden. But it needs to be emphasized that gambling is not a criminal activity.

That is their own right so don't worry too much in my opinion OP, people must have certain reasons why they hide that they are gamblers, we just need to understand what they do with gambling while not harming.

To answer your question on why some people hide when they play gambling, well maybe because they are doing illegal gambling? Like what you see there upon walking down town. See? Their rules are even strange. This can mostly favour them. For them, this is surely the best way to gamble but for the others, there is no need to hide their selves anymore because they are not shady and they are also playing on a legal casino.

Yes you are right these could be their reason why they are hiding to play gambling because I don't see any other reason why one should be playing playing gambling and hiding. For them not to come out freely to play gambling it means if they are being caught they can be punished because it is only when one is not doing the right thing that is why the person will be hiding. I gamblers needs to play responsible, this also means obeying the laws that regulate gambling because going against it one might be punished. Gamblers should learn not to be be controlled by the urge of playing gambling.

Gambling is not for everyone and gambling does not suit everyone's status. And gambling can affect the children in the family because children always follow other family members and learn from them. I don’t really know what country you’re chatting from, but this scenario sounds more like a typical Africa and not jay Africa but Nigeria cases and I don’t know even know you well but it seems you have personal relationships with some persons there else, when we were growing up, you wouldn’t even dare going close to the place this guys stay to gamble, maybe we were too scared back then, but I think it wasn’t wise then.

This is definitely about upbringing. There are gamblers today who grew up in homes where there both parents and relatives condemn gamblers either because they are religious or tradition don't allow them to gamble. So when these set of people see themselves as gamblers they want to hide away from people knowing exactly what other parents and people who don't subscribe to gambling would be saying on them. It is just the way it is that when you see people who hide to gamble, you just understand that such factor can be responsible for that or they themselves are not ready cool with it but they are only trying to double their money in secret whilst they criticize gambling in public.

There are couple of things that could cause gamblers to hide away from people when in engagingin gambling activities, or don't want people to see them gambling, is because of the way the society see someone into gambling (gamblers) as being irresponsible basically people who don't have job, secondly some hide because of their age , so boys that are not upto 18 years wouldn't want people that know see them engaging in gambling activities being an under-age person, lastly some category of gamblers that make money don't just like people to know their source of income and this is why we have majority of gamblers engaging in an online betting platforms than the they patronize the physical sport bookers.

We only would guess the reason, in my previous thoughts, I think they're running from the cops. But I still wonder if a gambler running from the cops is serious about this, he'd be in closed doors.

In further thoughts, while writing this, I think of it as valid. Staying outdoors allows the gamblers the freedom to see clearly who approaches the environment, and it's easier to take off. So, it's unrealistic to use one person's upbringing to define the reason behind the behavior of multiple people. The players in that circle may not have similar parental training. This makes the thoughts of upbringing not completely acceptable. Wow, if that's what you ask, the answers are varied, you could say that everyone who wants to gamble is different, there are those who like to be known and are great at it, there are those who are too shy not to be known by other people, the point being that the reasons are very varied.

Some countries and people think that gambling is part of their sin, if someone gambles, for that reason many people, the majority of whom are Muslims, choose to hide from gambling, they are embarrassed if their neighbors find out, family and so on, there are also those who think gambling is a disgrace to the family.
Conclusion:
Gambling while hiding has its own reasons, those who don't know the individual, it's different in countries that think gambling is legal, that's a different story, of course they don't need to hide.
