Since 2017 the ICO project boom has attracted a lot of scamers, the effect is still felt until now many emerging ICO projects end up being scam projects. But not all ICO projects, there are also many good and successful projects, but with the current market conditions the value may be a lot under the ICO.
Why is the project a scam? the answer is certainly because from the beginning the dev has intended to commit fraud

The ICO scams are happening always, not only last year. The best reason is, ICOs are an easy and smart method to scam people like a boss. There are several types of scams. Some projects are run away after the raising funds and some projects are cheating investors. My personal opinion is, don't go with any ICOs without your hard research.
I agree with you . The investment will bring us great risks in the long term. We will face great difficulties and it will be difficult to liquidate when the project ends. I usually do not invest at this time and only invest when the real market has clear signs of price increase

Few points i would like to raise why ICOs scammed last year
1) Due to bull market every one was becoming crypto influencer & was promoting ICOs with payments in BTC/ETH. But where are those influencers now like Ian Balina, Cryptoguru, Trevon, Suppoman etc they were all Paid shill. Investors saw easy returns on investment & thought they will make easy money in short span of time LOL. Some dishonest project took advantage of this & collected huge amount of funds with their fake decorated projects.
2) Lack of awareness because of this scammers got opportunity to make funding with their unrealistic ideas & prototypes & later some launched on the exchange & turned out too be scam & some even turned out to scam without launching on exchange.
Thanks to Bitcointalk members who took initiative to bring into picture & expose some scammy ICO which really helped so many peoples hiw to avoid scams & to be vigilant from the scams & scammers.

Of course those people who are scammer they obly think about their own future so they will do bad things because in ICO once they created they will get millions of dollars in only few months and they become instant millionaire in the short period of time only. I hope this year 2019 scammer already tired to scammed people because this time when our needs ICO are very legit and true.

I think the main reason is money. Projects collected funds in crypto and when the price was falling, they didn't have enough money to create their products so they leave cryptomarket with the rest of investments.
If they are scammer then no need to list token even on exchanges.Wise scammers know the weakness points  and then they attack to reach goal. They simply don't care about investors, exchanges etc..

In 2017 the price of cryptos went high so ICO investment also become very popular and millions of money poured into new projects so whcih get attracts many scammers to do the same thing by creating fake site and fake team just because they also want to make that millions in easier way.
People noticed the scams more in 2018 than in 2017 because in 2017 many projects that were clearly scams still gave profits since everyone was investing in many projects thanks to the bull market and this gave the illusion that every project was good when they were not, but in 2018 the bear market made even some promising projects to not give any profits, so there is a belief there were more scams in 2018 than in 2017.

Because they find out the reality, it is not hard to collect money, but it is too hard to give valuable project. Also there are no regulations, so they can easily go away with our money.

This is one of the big problems that is why many people don't trust bitcoin because there are many ICO projects are scam.

The other problem they can easily make a fake project with newbie account here and people who are looking for bounties participating to make money they always abuse this because most of the bounty hunters here doesn't check the project first before they invest their time promoting. They are just helping to spread those fake project and scam.

I hope someday that there is a new process will come like project verification and checking legality of the project with their real events and meetups. Anything that can make us decide easily that the project is real not a fake one.

Well they have their reasons and one of the obvious reasons are being in a slow and bearish market i have seen some good projects too that failed to raise decent funds so yes i think last year was kind of waste for crypto community but still we need to support the market and hooe for the best in this new year.

It has nothing to do with the trend, many projects went scam due to themselves and not because of the market. If they failed to meet up their desired fund to run the project, they could refund the money to the participants or contributors. But they did not do that, instead of giving it back to their participants. They took it and ran away with our money.
and another thing is, 80% ICOs are a scam. Nobody can deny that, that was why ICO is known as a tool for the scammer to scam the community.

By the way, there was a lot of scam projects back in 2017 too I think the number of scam projects back in 2017 is much bigger compared to the year 2018. The only difference is that in 2017 the number of projects was huge compared with the number of projects in 2018 and that's why the light spot can easily be focused on any scam project in 2018, also not every project that distributes tokens is a legit project by default they can distribute their tokens and still scam and that was the case back in 2017 but in 2018 scam projects do not even distribute tokens because they are probably failed to raise any kind of money to even cover the distribution fees.

It seems to me that the majority of very bad people understand that today cryptocurrency is not a regulated part of our world where money rotates. Therefore, to talk today about the fact that cryptocurrencies have scam projects is necessary.
