I think cryptocurrency developers, enthusiast and community in general prefer ethereum because of it's solid platform, smart contract capabilities and new programming language on ethereum !

I think the same as the current currency is being very interested investors and it has strong partners, a solid foundation and it always creates intelligent software.
I think the main reason is because it is very easy and less expensive to access Ethereum smart contracts and many startups take advantage of it to start their business . Ethereum platform has also build trust and confidence in the industry.

Ethereum is a very good coin if you imagine how many people participate in the creation of ico and how many smart contracts come out then this is a lot , because of this it is popular!
