I think everyone are'nt honest.But some of people are honest.Main reason is poverty.
I'm honest to an extent. I think some people can be too honest. Take found money for example. Some idiots will go out of their way to find the owner of the $20 bill they found in the parking lot which could have been dropped by anyone. That idiot is more likely to get ripped off by some other dishonest idiot.
Well people are not honest because they have personal interest and motive and in order to get it they need to be dishonest or anything whatever it required.
People are not honest because they are affraid. Affraid on the consiquence of tling the truth, affraid to be judge, afraid to show who really they are. Affraid on the people around him.
Can I ask why people are not honest. As in, why is it that people don't keep to their words even when they can do so? Can't I just do business with someone without signing papers and get lawyers and witnesses and still keep to my words? Can't we get trustworthy people anymore?
For me the worst thing in people is dishonesty. I can endure a lot, but there is absolutely no lie. I hope that someday the time will come and people will stop lying to each other and there will be only truth and goodness around. 
One answer would be because it is human nature. Some can control themselves and therefore are honest while the others are dishonest.
This kind of thinking just gives people excuses to act like shit.

Because everyone wants to survive in life and every one is getting greedy because of that. Papers are needed as proof, and the law is on your side when you are following the rules.
Before, old people don't have to make any contract who owns who, you just have to declare which one is yours and everyone will honor it, including at selling a land, the owner would just say that is yours and it will be yours, no need for papers or any contract, but today, maybe because there is an abundant supply/source, that is why people don't have to compete with each other.

People are always looking to take advantage of opportunities and if it means that they can cheat their way or lie about it then they will if it means that they would get what they want or elevate themselves. People are in their nature bad but it doesnt mean that they cant be good and I believe that good still outbumbers he bad
Someone does not honestly begins when he believes that dishonesty will bring goodness. For example, a student who cheats. Before he cheated, it has formed in his mind that cheating can give the advantage of more value. A corruptor, before he corruption, has formed in his mind that corruption will bring abundance of wealth.

Well, there are some reason why people find it hard to be honest. There are people who can't be honest because sometime the truth hurts. There are some people who find it hard to be honest because they find it fulfilling to make stories to make their selves look better.
People say honesty is the best policy even if they don't even keep their promises. Its because of a personal thing whether one feels the need to lie in order to achieve something. We can't really achieve a society that everyone tells the truth always. Lying is part of everyone's personality because people tend to protect what is important to them. For example one criminal is caught and his other companions got away he wouldn't simply point out who his companions are because he cares for the people he did those bad things with.
Poeple are not honest because sometimes they have done something wrong and they want to hide it as it will get them into trouble . Even sometime not being honest can be sort of good if good things happening by your lies
Maybe because we don’t want to burden people with what’s really on our minds, open ourselves up to judgment, or somehow upset them.
That's one on of the top reasons people lie. Being afraid of rejection or consequences. There are those that think being dishonest would be for the better of things. Eventually nothing good will come out of being dishonest.
Honesty and business are incompatible
Sadly a lot of people aren't honest because they don't want to be judged by others/ are too scared of the truth.

People tend to lie for some reasons. Some lies because they have personal interest on something that they wanted to get. Some of them are not honest because they know that their doing something bad. Some of the lies because they are insecure and not contented about their present state.
Generally whem people don't get anything being honest they take it the other way . Maybe motivation maybe self esteem . Maybe they have done mistakes and now to hide them they become dishonest
The situation and the reasons why people are not honest may be said to be due to numerous factors, but does not justify their reasons for their actions for not been honest in what ever they do.Moral character is an exhibition of doing the right thing. When many people will consider the idea of when you have a political appointment or when you are in Politics that you can have a shear of the national cake( by looting Government funds,diverting public funds,money laundering....etc) is why many people are not honest when voted in to such Political offices, how then can we expect such people to maintain integrity when voted in such offices. The Politician come out with mouth watering Campaign promises which at the end of their tenure remain unfulfilled their by exposing them as not been Honest during and after their tenure in office.

Sometimes people are not telling the trurth depends in the situation. Like he/she protect someone feelings. But there were only like 2 out of 10 to be trusted.
