@OP, do you have a personal definition of fiat that you would mention as a viable investment option? I don't think any investor considers fiat an investment instrument. Without applying margin/leverage, traders won't achieve significant results in forex.

The crypto market has an high level of volatility, anyone who is about to make an investment need to have a good understanding of the volatile market. Now the question is even with the volatility will you still choose crypto over fiat when it comes to making investments?
I am one of them..
Yes, I choose to invest in Bitcoin rather than fiat, even though we know about some of the risks, including volatility, I still choose to invest in Bitcoin.

Why? for several reasons other than that Bitcoin is a worthy investment. but also when we intend to invest in Bitcoin, at least we are prepared for various market conditions and we also understand when is the right time to take profits. As long as we remain calm and don't panic, we will continue to hold onto our investments even if market conditions go up and down. After that, we can take profits at a certain rate, according to what we target. Simple, just like that.

What are the options to fiat investments if I may ask you?

It isn’t as though fiat in itself is an asset like we do have with Bitcoin. Where we can have it’s volatile nature push the price as per valuation to a large extent where a few thousands could be tens of thousands. Fiat remains just fiat but,

If we look at it, there are other fields to investing of which, you can kick start with fiat money since, Bitcoin isn’t readily acceptable yet like, running a business, buying real estate, running a marketing firm, just name them. On these, yeah but, I wouldn’t want to be exclusive on either knowing what I do know and the potentials in Bitcoin.

I’ll rather have these physical investments and then, some of my portfolio in Bitcoin as well. Where the major of it would be concentrated would be based on the returns on investment.

I'll pick both. Fiat investments like Real-estate and stocks/bonds are a long-term profit engine that you could use to build generational wealth, basically make your kids and their kids' kids' lives comfortable and lavish.

On the other hand bitcoin investments are great regardless of what you say about its volatility. Matter of fact that's the very thing that makes it such a good investment to make these days.

So instead of sticking to one and singling out my earning potential, I might as well just go for the safest track and diversify my portfolio, you can't play with money especially if it's money for the future that we're talking about!

If by crypto you mean Bitcoin then YES but if you mean altcoins then NO. I'll rather stick with fiats as they have more security then altcoins. Atleast I know my investment (with fiats) won't just vanish one day. You can be rich in altcoins this very moment and the next thing you know, you're broke again due to the project founder performing an exit scam on we (the investors) or the market crashing and the project loses all the hype and momentum that the price can't recover again. Altcoin Investment aren't recommended as they're pure gamble and not investments.

On the other hand my investment will be preferred in Bitcoin than fiats because fiats investment get devalued over time that even when you make profits, you are still at lost due to the inflation of your local fiats. My country currency (Naira) is one of the worst out there that it's nightmare investing with it. As you're investing in Bitcoin, you don't need to bother about the volatile nature of the market as it doesn't concern you, you aren't trading so you have nothing to do with the market until you have gotten to your investment target and you need to exit the market then you sell.

Irrespective of the direction that the market takes, when you don't sell, you don't lose so just keep holding through all the volatility and you'll be fine at the end.

I agree with all the points made by Brainboss, we have to separate Bitcoin from Crypto,
technically Bitcoin is the original "Cryptocurrency" but crypto has become a general
term for $hitcoins. Investments can be crypto, FIAT or Bitcoin.

Bitcoin trumps both of the other options. $hitcoins are wildly unpredictable and FIAT
is in a constant state of devaluation.

If anyone is concerned about the "volatility" of Bitcoin they are too short sighted, you need
to have a long term outlook and volatility will disappear.

The crypto market has an high level of volatility, anyone who is about to make an investment need to have a good understanding of the volatile market. Now the question is even with the volatility will you still choose crypto over fiat when it comes to making investments?

There are so many factors to consider such as;
Is the fiat of your country strong like the US dollar, pounds and Euros or is it like the Nigerian naira which is more volitile than bitcoin. If your country's fiat is strong, there is nothing wrong to make your investments using fiat.
Note: That if you keep your money in fiat, you are just saving money. I do not understand what you meant by fiat investment. I take it to be like doing business with fiat

In the other hand, if your country's currency is weak, you may consider to base all your investment in cryptocurrency. But you need to know your technicals so that the market will not dump on you frequently.

since this is a bitcoin discussion board then from crypto change it to Bitcoin or move it to another thread.

Where is it written that when crypto is used, it is not talking about bitcoin? The world cryptocurrency is a general word for both bitcoin and altcoins. So there is no problems anywhere.

The crypto market is indeed volatile; understanding market volatility is an advantage to taking advantage of it and making profit.

Crypto investment? Did you mean Bitcoin investment?
If yes, it is better than keeping fiat money; I am not seeing keeping fiat money as an investment because of its stability in value, while Bitcoin investment is a store of value if you have the patience to wait for long.

Investing in Bitcoin involves risk as well, so you should be prepared for that. Moreover, avoid altcoin investments if you don't have adequate information about the project you are investing in because they are not as transparent as Bitcoin.

Actually it depends on the particular coin you are talking about because if is altcoins I cannot invest, however i can only invest on crypto if is Bitcoin because unlike other altcoins that has the possibility of crashing anytime but Bitcoin is like the father of every other coins, so irrespective of the volatility of Bitcoin price it can never influence my judgment or mindset of not investing on Bitcoin but however the only way in other not to be influence by the volatility of Bitcoin is just by investing and holding it for a long time.

However in times of fiat I don't think I can invest on it because the prices of fiat are mostly stable and free from volatility, so perhaps what are the possibility of making a profit after investing on fiat since is a stable coin? O
or Perhaps I could only consider saving some of my funds on Fiat with the intention of not targeting for profit.

As long as inflation continues, my preference is crypto. Investing in inflationary fiat currencies is like throwing your money away. The erosion of purchasing power over time causes us to become poorer. That's why crypto is always my priority when investing. Storing assets in a highly volatile market is dangerous for most people, but anyone who understands the dynamics of crypto markets will definitely store their assets in crypto.

If you are scalp trading or short term trading in the crypto markets, you should be careful. Because there is a possibility that your savings can disappear in an instant. However, if you are making long term plans in this market, you should definitely stay in crypto and your preference should be Bitcoin. If you follow the development of Bitcoin since its inception, the question marks in your mind will disappear and you will evaluate your investment in the most accurate way.

Honestly, both of them can provide profit if you invested in it. Just because fiat is a stable coin doesn't mean it won't fluctuate.
Fiat is more often used to hedge investments, it won't provide as much profit as Crypto.
Of course, Fiat also fluctuates, but Stablecoins are created to maintain a constant exchange rate with existing currencies.
For example, through a US dollar peg with a 1:1 ratio.

If stablecoins fluctuate too much and even too extreme like UST which is ultimately a scam, it will be a disaster.

Fiat will not grow any profits because its value is stable, while crypto will provide profits because its value is constantly changing.
I won't give you a choice because I use them all.

This your explanation is simply one of the reason why I think fiat currency shouldn’t be regarded as investment tool or asset because the only thing worthy of that is something has a return on investment which fiat doesn’t have, it is just an exchange tool. Bitcoin doubles as both exchange tool and an asset for investment, should the question ever rises about investment then bitcoin should be considered along side assets like stocks/bonds or precious metals, real estates.

The Comparison between fiat and bitcoin should clearly be on which one is better to save on. Which bitcoin still edges pass it, because of it ability to hedge against inflation and also a great store of value. But that doesn’t mean you don’t need to have fiat because it eases the pressure on going to your bitcoin holdings every time when running transactions, some periods might be bad (bearish period).

I don’t expect anyone to say fiat cause I don’t see how you really earn from fiat when the bank robs us everyday. They use our money to give loans and get interests and then give back a fraction of it to the money owner. With Bitcoin, you are the the money owner yet the bank. If there’s an interest it’s 100% yours and not splited. The volatile market you speak of is even what brings the returns in the crypto investment because if it were stable, it’ll just be a bank and won’t serve as an investment.

Ofcourse, I prefer with volatile currency for investment which is crypto. If you invest or hold fiat, since it's a stable currency, you can't profit more if you convert it to your local currency. Well, volatile currency has huge risk compare to stable currency, that's why we should really need enough knowledge about it before we invest. And I suggest not to put your all funds in one coin to have a higher chance of choosing the right coin with huge profit potential.

Fiat will not grow any profits because its value is stable, while crypto will provide profits because its value is constantly changing.

Hi man, volatility is very delicious because it provides benefits for anyone who can take advantage of it.
When you ask about choosing Fiat or Crypto, you will not find a satisfactory answer.

Fiat and Crypto are both needed, but investing in crypto will provide faster returns due to continuous price fluctuations.
Fiat is only an Output and Input, being the beginning and the end, but still Crypto is the multiplier.

Fiat will not grow any profits because its value is stable, while crypto will provide profits because its value is constantly changing.
I won't give you a choice because I use them all.

I think your question does not make any sense why you are in the place where you are at the moment and expressing your position (Bitcoin Talk). Everyone is aware of the fact that cryptocurrency is the only thing that can be guaranteed for investment. And all those people are engaged on the forum because of this; they get full satisfaction that investment is necessary, whether in fiat or in cryptocurrency. However, the purpose of investment should be to get profit, and for profit, it is necessary that he stabilize his assets or gain profit instead of investing. While currencies are losing value day by day,

Therefore, it is also the purpose of saying, and it is also a requirement of wisdom that a person does the work that benefits him and does not neglect the work that harms him. So let us consider the example of fiat currency: if it cannot maintain the stability of its invested value or positive gain, then it cannot become the subject of investment unless these qualities are found at the top of them.

A slight correction, since the topic you created is on the Bitcoin Discussion board, shouldn't the title be "Would you rather make your investments in FIAT or Bitcoin?". I mean, don't mix Altcoins with Bitcoin (in the name of crypto) because these two things are different things.

If you ask me, I have 2 answers for 2 different case studies:

Q: Would you rather make your investments in FIAT or Shitcoin?
A: Honestly, I would choose FIAT, which is why I'm not a diamond hand for most of the Altcoins I hold. When I get good profits, I will do TP Grin.

Q: Would you rather make your investments in FIAT or Bitcoin?
A: Bitcoin all the way Cheesy, your understanding of the financial sector will make you choose Bitcoin over FIAT, especially if you are discussing investments that are actually long term.

Don't let others control your BTC -> self custody
why should we choose between these two only? and why fiat? you don't invest in fiat, investing in it makes no sense. you can invest in a lot of things like gold or real estate as the alternative to bitcoin.

as for crypto. it is silly to invest in altcoins, the only viable investment is bitcoin. altcoins are too risky and manipulated to be invested in.

It's possible if you really want to debate on that matter (off topic).
You can invest in fiat if your goal is to put that fiat money against your own. As an example we can use someone who uses Turkish Lira and owns a bunch of it. That currency's inflation is high, so many other currencies will go up against it. If you decide to buy dollar that appreciates greatly against your currency and sell it after a few months, you'll have a lot more lira. Doing that makes you bet on the lira's ability to eventually curb inflation and stabilizing, so it can be an investment.

For me bitcoin is the best investment. I wouldn't buy any other fiat money over it and I wouldn't choose real estate or gold. Real estate is great to own, but as long as you don't have too many properties that give you a headache. You can own 100m in bitcoin, but try owning 100 apartments worth 1m each... You'll have to hire a company to manage it for you, register a business and all that.

This is the question I just answered in another thread just now. I will be very brief here. Op what you said is the basic truth. Yes bitcoin is volatile online money which only interested people use it but even at they it is for all. And those who understand bitcoin is not after the volatile nature of bitcoin but all what they after the the bear and the bull market. They use the bear market to accumulate more bitcoin in their portfolio and use the bull to sell so what is risk in bitcoin is not even in their dictionary, and what I  mean is that volatile is not in the mind. They only follow the down and up.

And to your question and it will be a straight answer. And that should be yes. I will always invest in bitcoin over fiat in 100% times. Why must I even invest in fiat when there  is no store of value. And the bankers will be using it to do business without your permission and the day when you want to use your money and you went to bank that is the day your account network is bad or there is no money to give you but in bitcoin your money is always there for you to withdraw.

Any wise investor will never choose a single asset to invest. It's a suicide. It's always a mix of different kind of investments that includes, cryptocurrency, stocks, bonds, band deposits, precious metals etc. A mix of assets is always better than any single asset. That's very basic of investment.

So even with this volatility, I do invest in cryptos as well as other assets. I do not choose only cryptocurrency for investment or only fiat.

I’m not sure if asking this topic is appropriate since this is Bitcointalk forum and most user here have Bitcoin investment so definitely we are choosing crypto over fiat.

Besides, Volatility is a great factor to have a good profit opportunity for investment. Bitcoin price shows a very good growth for over 13 years of existence which means this kind of volatility is already not gonna matter if your investment is long term. This volatility concern are only for those who purchase Bitcoin and aim to have a small profit in short term.
