I am the masses.  I'm interested i'm Monero due to the involvement of people I respect.  I have no computer skills.  My new computer is windows 8.1 with a pentium chip Embarrassed so I wont be mining.

You NEED to start mining.  Don:t use a pool. Just be patient.

As you suggested and after some head scratching I set up and started to mine solo and now realize that at my current hr and difficulty the avg time to find a block is 300 days.

Maybe we have a different definition of patience. Grin

CN/monero is no bullshit bitcoin altcoin. CN is a technical breakthrough.  It wont go away. Everything needed to be built will be built. Its easy.

The hard part/work is/was already done (with developing the coin).

Sine secretum non libertas
I like XMR and hold a good amount, but if wins the vote in Mintpal, we crash so hard like ITC, ENC and MYC.

I don't think so.  Right now we are burning off the mined coins from before the recent rapid rise in difficulty.  Once they are gone, the marginal cost of production is too high to allow dumping to drive price down.  Mintpal will add a demand source, and will not add supply.  It may spike up a bit past the marginal supply cost on speculation, and crash down below that, but it should catch solid support in the high 004s to low 006s very quickly thereafter.  A BTC-E or Bitfinex listing would really add to demand.

Of course it is all premature.  Lack of solid software could destroy us all.

I can't download the Linux wallet from the Monero website. The download stops after a few seconds. Does anybody else have this problem?

fluffypony: Why are (it seams) path infos are hardcorded into client?
(e.g. picture above user Tom vs. user griff_000)

Protip: Everybody ignore "Stevenrm87".

Much mystery...

...such Scooby Doo: tewinget (Tom) built the Windows binaries, and I (Riccardo) built the OS X binaries. Obviously when you execute compiled code you don't have the source code *on your system*, but it has to still be able to reference where the error is occurring. You can safely ignore both those "ABSTRACT_SERVER_SEND_QUE_MAX_COUNT " errors as well as the path it refers to, as that just happened to be the build path at the time:)

I am getting this error when I refresh the wallet?

^The bug is well known to developers and they'll fix it, but it's not a high priority now. Basically your daemon is flooding other pears (and your) connection and those pears are disconnecting you. When you see a few of those in a line and then they stop for a while it's fine, but when you see huge amount (obviously you are monitoring your daemon) your best option is to exit the daemon (use "exit" or "q" in order to save the blockchain first) and start it again. This way you'll stop flooding the other pears connection (and yours too).

Not a high priority now? So it's ok for pools to restart daemons several times a day initiating disconnects? I am silent about bandwidth usage.
Monero devs are working hard to address this and other problems with the code. This is a new technology and is not a bitcoin clone with all those issues already fixed. Stay calm and keep mining.

Thanks
