Ripple and Ethereum are good coins but they have different strengths and they have their own strength so they have their own charm.

I haven't been invested to XRP yet that's why I will still stick to my favorite currency which is Ethereum and I don't think XRP surpassed his value. Xrp right now has a good performance and is in tough competition against eth. As of now, if eth will be bullish then xrp will remain below eth but as this moment they are both on the same page when it comes to volume.
XRP is really a great coin but I think it is not better than eth, maybe it is still next to eth, if we take a look on the price the value and the volume of the coin we can really say that it is amazing, but I also see that the ethereum is always next to bitcoin it is the ICO king and many people trust it the most than the other coin so I dont think that it xrp is better than ethereum, how ever we can still select both coin for good.
For me xrp and eth, I prefer to hold eth, now the price goes up.There is eth and good for the long term.Ethereum has a wider use of cases that cover many industries while the Ripple is quite narrow. Ripple also has a highly centralized XRP supply which can cause price suppression in the future. Obviously possible but time consuming matter because at the scale of popularity Ethereum is more popular than ripple and popularity scale Ethereum is again in second position.
It depends on what you mean by saying that something is better or not. Ether is the best altcoin and it will be the best one, at least for several upcoming years. Ripple is a great investment instrument but it is not a crypto currency.

Well Ethereum already brought back his 2nd place , and I guess he will always have 2 as the potential of Ethereum higher than the ripple , and investment too
I thought I was in altcoin discussion and not in comedy Central, XRP in my opinion has not achieved half aid what Ethereum has achieved, it is just mostly about hype and this strategy has been working quite well for them.
I am sure if Ripple is much better than Ethereum, then it would be at the head of all ICOs, but this is not so. Ethereum is universal. This is what enables so many projects to launch coins on this platform.
At the moment, Ethereum again took the second position after Bitcoin, and XRP again took the third position. So it did not last long XRP in the second position and perhaps this means that at the moment XRP is not better than Ethereum.

Yes, XRP will be better than ETH , ETH price is going up due to its coming Constantinople hard-fork at Feb 25,2019 after that price can be grow more but XRP have solid reasons to go up .
obviously, ETH is more valuable than XRP. ETH is a truly decentralized coin. XRP is a centralized coin that is fully manipulated. it builds a strong brand.
To what extent xrp or ethereum stands in the competition is much concerned, because more potential coins have been found on the random list. Xrp being manipulative it isn't trusted by more crypto users, still its outcome is good with massive usage taking place on banking needs. Ethereum serving as the platform for large number of ERC-20 based projects makes its strong in the competition.
XRP is giving very good fight to ETH but i believe that ETH is better than XRP because it proved itself and people took lot of profit from ETH.
