GlobalCoin is coming. What are your thoughts on this new Facebook-made altcoin? What have you heard about it?
I keep thinking that this Facebook coin is not going to be a successful thing, though I’m not sure about that yet… It might still end up being the opposite. But the kind of things I have been seeing a lot of people say about the Facebook coin is making me think that most of the people will not like to be making use of it. Even Trump has said something about the Facebook coin recently and also cryptocurrency as a whole, saying that he doesn’t like all that. For now I’m just going to cross my fingers and watch them to see what’s going to be.

The takeaway:

Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (“CZ”) hopes to open a London office “very soon” as the crypto exchange turns its focus to Europe. Brexit won’t hurt and if anything will be good for crypto, he predicts.
On Facebook’s Libra project, CZ anticipates practical benefits from potentially listing the coin, and also hinted at further collaboration.
The forthcoming Binance.US is working with the usual suspects among crypto’s reliable banking partners.
CZ calls crypto insurance a “flawed concept.” Binance instead dedicates 10 percent of its $100 million in quarterly revenues to its internal “SAFU fund.”

MIT Fellow Says Facebook ‘Lifted’ His Ideas for Libra Cryptocurrency

'

https://www.coindesk.com/mit-fellow-accuses-facebook-of-lifting-his-ideas-for-libra-cryptocurrency

Avid students of the literature on monetary innovation might feel deja vu when reading Facebook’s Libra white paper.

Several aspects of the social network’s much-ballyhooed global cryptocurrency project uncannily resemble the vision laid out in a paper published last year in the Royal Society’s Open Science publication.

For example, the Libra paper described a digital coin that would maintain its value because it was backed by a basket of fiat currencies and short-term debt. This echoed the July 2018 paper by MIT big-hitters Alex Lipton, Thomas Hardjono and Alex “Sandy” Pentland, who described an asset-backed, supra-national digital token. (To be sure, the assets in their proposal were commodities like oil or crops).

I dont see anything special about Facebook coin as the industry is large but just need major adoption but Facebook thinkbit can drive that but its sense of centralized the community is my concern.

Congress might actually get crypto.

That was a key takeaway from last week’s contentious hearings in on Facebook’s Libra project in Washington, D.C.. While giving Facebook executive David Marcus the third degree, lawmakers took pains to distinguish between the social network’s project and the broader cryptocurrency ecosystem.

I think facebook coin has a great future ahead as their community is quite large and even if few percentage adopt the coin it'll be a big success and there are possibilities for new centralized coins from other big players soon after FB coin success.
Coin Facebook finally appeared and was given the name Libra, predicted to explode in the crypto market because members owned by Facebook were around 2 billion. Of course this is a separate market that has great potential if it can be optimized. Especially for trade transactions in the Facebook community.
While outside the community, Facebook can use Libra coins as short-term or long-term investments and trades because transactions can occur through crypto exchanges throughout the world.

The name has already changed now is Libra. A good project with a large potontsialom and a huge team that's all. How further it will be developed is not clear. We will wait for the release of the project. But Facebook’s shares will definitely rise.

I think it's natural that Facebook launches global coin when it sees the growth of the cryptocurrency market that continues to grow. This shows that large companies have begun to see opportunities in the cryptocurrency market and show recognition of cryptocurrency. Hopefully after this regulation from the government can follow

I've actually heard about it. I think it's going to be a good innovation.  And if Facebook policies will totally agree with that of the crypto community,  there wont be harm in using the Facebook altcoin.

At first, I'm kind of scared of what would be the effect of Libra on the existing coin, since it could be their rival cause we all know that Facebook is very popular. Libra has its own blockchain, if facebook promotes it, it will spread awareness of what blockchain can do, promoting the technology promotes the chain to its foundation.

Libra currency will be 50% backed by USD, Euros, British Pounds, and Yen

https://www.coindesk.com/lawmakers-amp-up-pressure-on-facebook-to-halt-libra-cryptocurrency-development

U.S. lawmakers repeatedly pressed Facebook’s top blockchain executive to halt development of the Libra cryptocurrency during a contentious hearing on the project Wednesday.

They didn’t get far.

David Marcus, the CEO of Facebook’s subsidiary Calibra, reiterated his promise that Libra would not launch until regulators’ concerns were fully addressed. But he stopped short of committing to freezing technical work on the project, much to the chagrin of House Financial Services Committee members.

I am still sure Libra Coin will still launch and be on the market. Facebook is a big company that certainly has done legal research, not only in terms of technology and with a large budget and huge partnertship with other company and follow government regulations, Facebook coin has the opportunity to launch either this year or next year

I am not sure why everyone is so enthused about a giant corporation making a massive bid on a proprietary crypto currency. The whole purpose of crypto was to decentralize currency and remove authoritative and centralised controlling bodies such as multi-national corporations. Also some say this is good for bitcoin because it will bring attention to crypto currencies. But Facebook has a track record of bungling new products, ie the Facebook Phone, and would abandon this whole endeavour like a hot steaming pile of turd if ever investors became worried that it was underperforming, bringing too much controversy, threatening other investments, etc. And after its likely failure, it will leave all those people who were newly introduced to crypto though this rollout the perception of crypto as being a failure.
