I am not looking forward to a 1 billion share block any time soon. I think our worst has maybe been a 4x - 5x difficulty block, but I can't recall off the top of my head.

373M is not that bad of luck (only a little over 3x diff). Just wait til a pool gets their first 1 billion+ share round (not even 10x difficulty to hit 1b).

Which was actually found by BTCguild. It often happens that two blocks are found in fairly close proximity time wise, when that happens, they don't even show up as invalids, since they did not even have time to get paid out, so they are just discarded. The only time you'll see an invalid is if there is a significant time delay between when a block was found and when it's validated by the network.

I just setup my own solo stratum pool to try my Luck.
I have few questions for you:
What do you use for
rpctimeout=30
rpcthreads=50
maxconnections=50
dbcache=250
blockmaxsize=400000
blockprioritysize=50000
in your bitcoind setup? Did you modify bitcoind (net.cpp) to support more inbound/outbound connections?
Considering the size of your pool, you probably run multiple bitcoind instances, no?

Yeah, it dynamically adjusts your difficulty based on your mining speed and targets around 20 shares per minute I think is what I have it set to.

It does it's own thing, but it adjust pretty rapidly. Difficulty starts out at 10 regardless, though.

gigavps is good for stability, very ASIC friendly, but it does not make as much money as this pool.
Pools have good luck and bad luck unless you are using PPS. My pool has been unlucky for the last week or so which should account for your payments.
I must say though, your time scales for comparison are far from what is needed to make any kind of proper judgement.
It took 6 months for my pool to have a run of luck that brought it back to 100% PPS.
