Whatever you feel like throwing at it but I just rented one pH for 6 hours at 42 and left but apparently 42 is too cheap so I'll be back in a couple hours and I will raise it so it should hit

I have a rental at the moment and did not have any trouble connecting to the pool. But yes the price is varying a little, paying @0.0044 ...

Yeah self-mod is the way to go.
