ONE of the pillars of Purefoods’ 2014 grand slam team has just been taken down.

Big man Marc Pingris announced his retirement in the PBA after a colorful 16-year career, highlighted by his major role in helping the now Magnolia Hotshots complete a season sweep of all three conferences seven years ago.

The 39-year-old forward dubbed ‘Pinoy Sakuragi’ made the announcement on his social media platform on Tuesday night.

"16 years na din ako sa PBA pero alam ko na ngayon na ang tamang panahon para umpisahan ang bagong chapter ng buhay ko," Pingris said in a long post in his Instagram account.

We will never forget the Pinoy Sakuragi.

Sad to see that one of the pillars of PBA has officially retired for sure the fans will miss the intensity what pinoh sakuragi can bring in the court. Wishing for him to get a good recognation but unfortunately this will never happen these year since the pandemic still exist in the world. For sure we will miss him play in PBA aswell in FIBA.

FIRST impressions usually last, but that apparently doesn’t apply to Terrence Romeo as far as San Miguel big boss Ramon Ang is concerned.

The 29-year-old Romeo has enjoyed the best times of his career at San Miguel after arriving in a trade with TnT, winning his first Finals MVP award when the Beermen beat the Tropang GIGA in the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals.

Ang said Romeo's performance on the court and behavior off it was the exact opposite of what most fans expected, especially with the stories about the former Far Eastern University sta he was hearing prior to his move to the Beermen.

“Sabi nila, very, very hard to handle,” Ang told Summit Media editors and reporters during a Sandwich Session on Friday. “Baliktad. Ang bait naman nun. Sobrang bait nun. Tsaka naiintindihan ko ‘yung kanyang hilig.”

That's coming from the big boss, Romeo should be so proud of this and it could mean that he could retire with the SMB if he will continue what he has been doing. He is underrated as a player, but this guy is really good even in international competition.
I said it again and will say it again. When the superstars of SMB will retire Romeo, Perez and Fajardo will be the faces of the team Smiley. If they will add another superstar then better.

By the time Fajardo and Romeo will retire for sure there are other star will rise and also Romeo will be out of his prime since he will be rusty due to age. SMB will surely find new faces since PBA is business and they will find a good star which have good fan base to accumulate more sales.

We know how SMB do in terms of trading and drafting so expect that they will acquire some new big star in future.

He went to Global Port (now North Port) but the team can't handle him. He went to TNT and looks like it is the same.
Now he went to SMB and now he found his new home.

In his 2 teams, he is a legit scorer especially in his first years in Global Port where he averages more than 20 PPG but when he went to SMB everything has changed and that includes his role and at the same time his attitude. There is no better thing than to change the attitude of the player. Acquiring Romeo from the TNT is a big accomplishment to the team and we already saw his impact in his games and he also got an Finals MVP Smiley.

That's a very inspiring act from Boss RSA and for sure Terrence Romeo will repay that kindness with hardwork on and off the court.

It's not only Terrence Romeo that Boss RSA that want to retire in the SMC company, he also assured Calvin Abueva that if he continue what he is doing this time, the Beast has found a home in Magnolia and Boss RSA assured him that.

Ramon S. Ang is a revelation to me as i'm not expecting that he is this so kind and generous to his players. Usually rich businessmen are only there for the business and sometimes they tend to forgot the welfare of their employees.

Terrence Romeo found his place, he may be not a starter but his contribution is well appreciated.

He is now an accomplished player, has won a champion and Finals MVP, I'm happy for him.
His brother during the Northport days has also won a championship and might win a finals MVP soon, no doubt about Pringle.

If only he wasn't injured the last bubble, SMB could have competed well.

Both stars are now being well taken by the SMB Organization. They've got the achievements they both wanted to have, winning a title to complete your résumé during our stay inside this league.

Both are known to uplift the game when they've got the chance, Romeo since his rookie days shows his skills and talents,.

Good for him being acquired by the Beermen and now providing the performance that they'll asking from him.

NLEX is good but they lack defense, that's what I observed since coach Yeng took over the coaching.

We all see that, that's why they will never win in the playoffs due to their lack of defense, also, most of their game are high scoring, that only tells that they are not focus on defense, rather than in offense, in fact, even big man is shooting 3's that's the design of play made by coach Yeng.

Well, since they are talking of a big man, maybe they already know their weakness and they are desperate to have a good one.

I also observe that, since they are now talking about big man  it's shows that they are working into something that would help the team.

It would be very nice gesture to show some interest in seeking for big players that would really help them to give good defense as they already have offensive players who can take care of this area.

I also see that if they can acquire Greg the chance of tighting the interior will help them to improve.

Coach Yeng is just a bit disappointed with his team's performance, or the current roster. I had heard a lot of bad comments from him, he seemed to be not getting what he wants with the current lineup, he missed a team that has a chance to be in the playoffs, NLEX just doesn't have that now. Getting a big man is important, but other teams are interested as well, and in the end, the biggest and the richest team will win, you know what I'm saying.
The more money you have, the more chances of you getting a better player Cheesy. That is how PBA works right now.
The competition of the league has been gone because of... you know what I mean too Cheesy. These independent teams didn't have the opportunity to at least compete with this other teams because they are being used as a milking farm of this big companies or I should say other teams. They got a good player, they will get it and it goes on and on.

Big man is important in basketball and it seems like they are lacking a reliable one right now. Maybe they are trying what Rockets did in NBA 2 years ago Cheesy. Well anyway I just hope that they can manage to get a big player before the conference starts or at least they can adjust into it.

The rotations of good and outstanding players are for those teams / franchise who can spend more money and there's no brainer who are them rigth?

Coach Yeng is very vocal but what can he do to change that,? nothing that can't be controlled  by money inside this league.

The more money you can throw the more chances that you can get the players that you want.

That's a trivia thanks. That's why I think Yeng Guiao has given a good signal.

Jericho Cruz already played for Guam last year so it's not really that Yeng Guiao gives him a signal but that was necessary.

Guam's next qualifying game will be next month against Hong Kong and since the PBA restart doesn't finalize yet, there will be no problem if Cruz will play overseas in the meantime. If only the earlier FIBA scheduled was followed, on which Guam will face Hong Kong last February instead, there will be no conflict for Cruz schedule if PBA will restart next month.
Yeah, there should be no problem with his participation if the schedules were followed. But the pandemic hits and we all know that a lot has been adjusted and affected.

Jericho Cruz deserves to be given more opportunity to play and to be in a better team, it's just so pity that he played with a struggling NLEX team, this team hs not been in the Finals or even semi Finals when coach Yeng assume it, it's very different during coach Yeng time with ROS or prior to that where he has more success.
It's about their contract and what they've signed for. He can demand if he's really demandable by the teams or at least gets to jump into another team that wants to take him if his contract expires with his current team. Well, we don't have to think of it. They're not even problematic about it and just play if they're told to do so.

Kiefer feels a big man can turn NLEX from good to great. Beau perhaps?

What do you guys think?

I think if it's Beau Belga, it will not give big impact to the team, I like a big man that is dominant and I think if they can get  Greg, it could help them.
I know JMF is better than Greg, but at least Greg could give JMF a hard time when they play against each other.

Agree with you, if NLEX could get Slaughter then it could boost their team as they are lacking a legit big man now with the departure of Poy Erram. Beau is more of a defensive stopper and he is not young anymore so i think he would be just a mentor to the young guns of the team that will pick him.

Bigs are very important in the PBA, we only have few legit bigs who are really tall, and AFAIK, it's only JMF and Greg who have that, other bigs are not really that tall.

Greg is currently playing with the NOP, but we know this team would not hold a very important player, and eventually, Greg will be traded, NLEX just needs to hope that they will get Greg and I don't think he will ever play with SMB teams again.

Goods news for all the SMB and Junemar Fajardo fans here because as per article, he is back on practice this early. I thought that his injury is not yet fully healed that they estimated his comeback during the opening of the games next month.

Nevertheless, it so nice to see him back on the court and take back the all Filipino crown from Ginebra.
Just read the thread and its quite happy to see that JMF is back on the practice Smiley.
The only bad thing (not that bad) that I'm seeing is the absence of Tautuaa and Perez because of the 3x3 tournament.

Anyway, we might see an El Classico matchup in the upcoming conference where Ginebra and SMB will battle again. JMF on the other hand though will not play that much minutes in his games like the way he used to be because of his injury. They will reserve him if possible since they don't have any other reliable big right now since Mo is on another tournament.

My question, do you think JMF would still win the MVP this season?
Too early to speculate and we don't know yet if JMF is as healthy as he is years ago when he is dominating the league. Lets wait and watch his performance when the season starts and we can predict if he will or he will not Smiley.

He's already doing some minor court practice before so by joining the team's practice, I think that's part of his recovery and returning to shape.

I think JuneMar won't play at the early games of the next conference or maybe they will put him as "if necessary". They will only use JMF if needed.

As a related article regarding that practice, CJ Perez and Mo Tautuaa skip SMB scrimmages for 3 weeks as they have other activities outside the league. More information on the article link.

It's good news indeed, JMF vs Greg vs C. Stand, we will see a good PBA season when these 3 bigs are healthy. Maybe SMB really think Ginebra is a huge threat, they lose last season, not even in the Finals, so surely they want to bounce back and take that trophy again.

My question, do you think JMF would still win the MVP this season?

That's too far to conclude, but if he(JMF) would play the same way before he got this serious injury for sure taking another league MVP is not hard for him, the dominance that he have inside gives him and the team a huge advantage, plus all those supporting cast who play their own roles that makes it more easier for him.

The season is really interesting, seeing those players back and healthy the competition will bring more entertainment for the fans.

Still waiting for the announcement in regards to update with the plan of this season opening date.
