NEO is a good option for hold. But the better option is bitcoin. Furthermore it is possible with Ripple and Ethereum to buy. The mass of options. Come to coinmarketcap and choose your coins from the top.

Your resoults of holding depends on the altcoin which you want to choose for it. If we say about 2 or 3 years, it is so long term. I think that Ripple or Litecoin would be good for this actions.

The idea is not that bad to hold for 2-3 years. Did you consider Wanchain, XYO - they recently partnered with Fedex and Spacex, Aeternity, Eidoo - one of the safest mobile wallets. Of course, some bitcoin in the bag is a must.
I like aeternity too - they launched their mainnet a few weeks ago and even though it was a tough start, I believe in their team. They have the best Erlang developers in the world
First altcoin you've recommended for me was strange. As for rest of them I believe there is a potential of holding all of them.

You must choose just big and trustable projects like ripple, ethereum or stellar, small projects most probably won't be in market few years later so you should consider all thing like this, but 2-3 years is very long time maybe you can shorten the time a little.

I think you should not holding altcoins for 2-3 years because many of altcoins will die in 2 years. You should be the luckiest man in the world for earning a lot of money. You can hold top coins like bitcoin etheruem and ripple for 2-3 years.

2-3 years very long time for this market:) We are seeing that, this hodl strategy is completely wrong when we are in bear market. So I think you mustn't hodl long time any coin, buy from low prices and sell them from high. 
Yes, it is very good to hold the altcoins for more than three years in order to make some decent money because in short term we cannot able to expect the prices of the coin and sometimes due to the market situation it is impossible to guess.
