Buying such shitcoins should be done only with the money you can afford to gamble and lose because some of these may not even be around in 2-3 years. For long term holding, always start with topmost ranked coins such as BTC, ETH, LTC and others.
OK, you wanna be RICH? well too bad. You gotta pay and listen. 'Cause I'm a genius and well... So what you gotta do is buy a ton of coins, were talkin' a lot, like 100,000,000+. This is hard if you are poor, but check this out, now don't go and buy a ton of embercoin, listen close, only certain coins are good. Now don't get me wrong, some coins can make you a lot of money, but you asked about coins to hold, for a few years. Well I have found them. There are probably more, here is my list. They are mostly found on cryptopia. Spartancoin is currently the cheapest, with batcoin coming down in price recently to the same level. Spartancoin is a special case, because of it being so cheap. Right now you can get 100,000,000 spn for 3 litecoin, that's less than $200 usd!!! That is insane! There is less spartancoin than dogecoin, but that is not the only insane deal. Here is my list of cheap ass great coins. I would say the riskiest coin is experienceroin, for some reason. Probably will be an insanely profitable investment.

Mate you have a nice strategy to hold altcoins but try to observe carefully if the value is still have movement.Because if it's not much? better to sell it and find another potential altcoin to be hold.There's so many potential ICO right now so don't stacked for an altcoin that was nearly to end. If you want to keep Altcoins for two or three years I think you should invest in ETH and EOS is the best. Because the market we are fluctuating and still too cheap. So if you take advantage of this point and buy it we think it will not take you two or three years to become rich. 
huge portion of the portfolio should be btc, like %60 maybe. it is way more trustable and non-volatile than any other altcoin. so with this way you won't lose much when bear market. and like so many other people said, you should wait for more than 4-5 altcoins for 2-3 years.
This is certainly sound decision if you have decided to hold your investment for 2-3 years. Cryptocurrency have high volatility which means high fluctuations in prices of coins. If you invest now , according to market trends prices will definately increase after 2-4 years. And you can get splendid ROI on your investment. This is enough time to understand the market situation and trends. You can also sell your coins in between if you will get higer prices than actual. Apart from mentioned coins i would suggest you must add BTC and ETH is your portfolio for assured returns as these are most prominent coins now a days.

If you have money then the long term investment strategy with the Altcoins is very reasonable and potential. A few years later Bitcoin prices could reach $ 100,000 and Altcoin would go up $ 1.000. Some coins such as XVG, OMG, NEO is very potential.
I expect that it will be possible to see high prices if we wait for such a long time that we have a good chance for investors.

NEO is one of the best altcoins in your portfolio. I believe in the future NEO will be the biggest rival of ETH. Current good ICO projects can be based on the NEO platform. and it shows the quality of the NEO is very good and not as ETH mass.
if in my opinion, for now we are waiting and waiting for good luck if many altcoins will surprise their parents in the next month so that they can give a sure and pleasant surprise.n.
There are many altcoins worth accumulating and holding for 2 or 3 years. Those tokens which are on the top 100 in coin marketcap are worth holding. Just make sure to research about the coins you are intending to buy so that there will be no regrets about it. My personal choice are XRP, XLM, NEO and PUNDIX (NPXS)
Holding tokens for a long time is just frustrating even a months how about 2 to 3 years its such a long, what if theres good price or else you need to have money at a time for needs you have to sell it, so everything depends on the situation but as long as you had enough money try to hold it at this long time i think you earned much better as you want..
Besides the obvious ones like ETH,XMR,EOS, i`m planning to aim for lower altcoins. The one that i have in mind might not be top 100 but its on the right path to be until the end of the year. You can do some reasearch on MWAT (Restart Energy Democracy). They already have the revenues to get big and also with their plan of expanding in the next couple of years, it`s gonna be a blast. The project/staff members already have experience in the energy field and the ICO was completed ahead of the schedule.
I think that there are a lot of interesting altcoins now, I would pay attention to Stratis, waves, tezos, Ethereum, EOS
I don't think it would be good choice;Ethereum has problems itself - and I think we should wait if Posswitch happen without complications,
EOS - I think is overhypped still
and Waves - many projects are moving to ETH or other blockchains
ETH, XMR. Also you can try and go for MWAT , they have a strong project, great team, 20 mil USD revenues last year and a big plan to expand in the next few years. If you`re interested you can look them out. Cheers!

the prices of altcoins depend on the bitcoin price, because the financial flows constantly flow from one crypto currency to another. naturally, not all are synchronous in their behavior on the market, many assets may not manifest themselves as the trader expects at the moment when the rest behave quite predictably. so you can hold your coins for several years, but it is not known how the market will behave.
The influence of bitcoin is very strong because altcoins is always trading with bitcoin, this is what makes the price of altcoins set in bitcoin or ethereum so that when bitcoin prices drop then altcoins prices also drop.
The trend of altcoin always moves by the state of the bitcoin. In the past, bitcoin and crypto have had an amazing and impressive growth from 2013 to 2017. And so planning for 2-4 years is a good idea. In it, I've built a plan to keep some altcoin like ODE, CST, EOS. and can not exclude ETH, I believe it will soon recover from late or early next year.
It all depends on what altcoins you are going to hodl. I think that in the long term it will be difficult to guess with this.
