I just ordered one Zotac 1080Ti AMP Edition (1569/1683MHz) which seemed to have the best performance/price ratio among "in stock" cards.
Should I send it back without opening it even if it looks like that have improved the cooling system wrt the 1080?
Glad you asked. Keep it, if the answer to all of the following questions is "Yes".
If the answer is "No" to any of the questions, I'd consider sending it back. But you'll have to do the research.
(In order of importance)
1. Does Zotac offer a 3 year warrany with this card?
2. Is the Vendor/Website/Store from where you purchased the 1080Ti specifically or implicitly on the list of approved Zotac Vendors?
3. Will Zotac honor their 3-year warranty, even if you haven't up-to-that-point registered the card for 2 years (hypothetical future scenario)?
4. After reading Zotac's warranty terms, are you satisfied that they would take care of you as well as Asus or MSI, according to their warranty terms?
Finally, some things are worth spending lots of time on. Sending the Zotac back may not be one of them. But that is your decision.

1- I have a 1070 evga hybrid getting 750k ppd solid under ubuntu 16.04 headless
2- I have a couple 1080 evga hybrids that bounce wildly from 800k to 1.2 million PPD on a similar setup.
3- I finally messed with the setup enough to be able to control fan and clock speed on a headless system and plan on seeing if the 1080s will fold stable at the same clock as the 1070 (its a pretty big difference in default clock on those 2 cards)
4- It could be argued in high electric cost the 1080 is better, but I think it needs a little tweaking
5- Ive spent way too much time rebuilding my folding machines looking for the best builds. In summary, use linux, its much faster.
6- The linux install guide on foldingcoin.net is pretty good, I was referring to it as a baseline build until I started to use 16.04, I will share my findings in an easy copy paste format to make it easier for others to crank out every last bit off PPD possible without crude tactics like a large overclock which can cause your folding to fail.
7- Folding is simple at face value, rather easy to get going. Fine tuning though can be turned into a career. Brands, ambient temps, drivers etc etc etc all make a big difference. I think we have a lot more research to do before we can officially crown the 1070 or the 1080 the king of folding.

1080Ti is a LOT more cores though, and I think they managed to clock it a bit higher yet.
Have a few of these. The clock rate maxes at the same freq as my 1070's, and even a tad lower.
This week I plan to buy one 1080Ti to replace all my old 7950s (weather starts to be hot) and I have to choose between Asus, MSI, EVGA, Zotac, Gigabyte.
Did anyone have problems with 1080Ti of any of these brands?
Also does the brand matter or should I simply choose the one with lowest price for the highest GPU frequency?

If you are only buying one, many of the choices are good. I'd personally stay away from a company with the letter Z.
However if you want to use multiple 1080 Ti's and/or engineer your heat flow, I think the Asus Turbo is a fine choice. All exhaust exits the head of the card (the back of the computer for most configurations) instead of being split and some going back into the case. This can produce noticebly better results, as Nvidia out of necessity progressivly scales down the MHZ the hotter things get.
But again for many case layouts, and a single card, many of the 1080 Ti cards will bring great results. I hear good things about MSI as a company, too.

I have not used a 1080 TI.
With that said, I'm quite happy with my Gigabyte 1070s, the Gigabyte 1080 I bought last week, and am reasonably content with my EVGA 1070s.
Also, I don't buy the numbers on that table - I was commonly seeing more than 600k on my single-card 1070 rigs (thought they were all Gigabyte cards with a fairly high factory OC) and am NOT seeing 800k but more like 750k out of my Gigabyte 1080 (which replaced a Gigabyte 1070 in one of those single-card rigs).
In terms of raw card stats it makes sense - both cards are probably maxing out the "fast return bonus" and the 1080 has 1/3d more CUDA cores than the 1070 it replaced but the memory is only 20% faster on raw transfer rate and has higher latency.
1080Ti is a LOT more cores though, and I think they managed to clock it a bit higher yet.

I bought Zotac GeForce GTX 1080Ti AMP! Edition 11 GB OC Enthusiast because it lowest price for the highest GPU frequency in non reference design. Can't give you PPD or noise results because she in shipment status now. Did anyone have problems with 1080Ti of any of these brands?
