Sad that this kind of platform going. Seems like Paxful will as well go.
If someone is still doing OTC, my colleagues do have an active OTC Telegram group: https://t.me/btctofiat

Wow!  That is huge.  I am surprised this hasn't received more attention.  I suspect though that all the extra costs imposed by regulators worldwide and the cash ban, along with the insanity caused by the scammers at FTX and the like they couldn't make it work.  Between all those, the trading volume seems to have cratered.

Sad day for the people involved and for people who would want to use it in the future.

LocalBitcoins will discontinue its service
https://localbitcoins.com/service_closure/

"Originally LocalBitcoins was established to Bring Bitcoin Everywhere and drive global financial inclusion. We have honored that mission for over 10 years and we are proud of what we have achieved together with all of you, our loyal community.

We are therefore sad to share, that regardless of our efforts to overcome challenges during the ongoing very cold crypto-winter, we have regretfully concluded that LocalBitcoins can no longer provide its Bitcoin trading service.

We encourage all customers to withdraw their funds from LocalBitcoins and we ask you to proceed with withdrawing the Bitcoins from your LocalBitcoins wallet. You have 12 months to withdraw, however of course we encourage you to proceed withdrawing sooner.

Thank you for being a part of the LocalBitcoins family! It has been our honor and pleasure to serve you over the last decade.

Timeline for discontinuing the Bitcoin trading service:
*2023-02-09 Suspension of new sign ups
*2023-02-16
   - Suspension of trading on LocalBitcoins
   - Suspension of using LocalBitcoins wallet (with exception of withdrawing one's funds)
*After 2023-02-17 LocalBitcoins customers will only be able to log-in to withdraw their Bitcoins. The trading and Wallet services will no longer be available at this point".

This was so sad to see. I sort of thought any OG company that survived the 2018/2019 bear market would be able to survive now, considering the "crypto-winter" of today is equal to the peak of 2018 in terms of pricing and volume. With FTX, I also would have thought that that peer-to-peer trading would increase as people shun centralized exchanges. If their trading volume wasn't picking up (as I presume), I'd still be hopeful that better times for peer-to-peer trading are right around the corner. Hopefully some company can step in and take the reigns, I know I'd do it if I had the funds! The IP and branding of LocalBitcoins carries so much weight.

The only reason that people prefer LocalBitcoins over normal exchanges is the lack of AML and KYC regulators.
AML and KYC = LocalBitcoins gains no money.

Agree with you but LocalBitcoins is centralized exchange also as a Finnish company and holding user funds. had to be under Finland legislation.

seems new P2p service hodlhodl will be main player on the market from now on.

Did Localbitcoins recently raise the amount required to set up an advert to sell.   I'm not selling in USA or New York especially so we are allowed to use bitcoin here without too much hassle but seems all the limits went up to prevent anyone not a big dealer from being on the site ?

Quite a few of the old sites are like this with fees set back when BTC was 10x lower then it is now, one site tells me I need 0.1 btc to clear a balance from an account.  I realise most of the limits are ok on localbitcoins but sad some have been pushed up

All paid signature campaigns should be banned.

Is getting a money transmitters license in-congruent with the fact that what most sellers are doing is not actually illegal?
Yes because a license is defined as "permssion to do something which is technically illegal".
Like, for example, driving a car?  Operating a beauty salon?

What the heck are you talking about?

Yes, rights usurped into licensed privileges.

I get your meaning now:  in a perfect (or at least more ideal) world we would not need to get a license from the goobermint to do things like trade Bitcoins, drive a car, etc. etc.

Agreed.
