They will not replace conventional money or credit cards for a long time, but it is already possible to buy goods for them and even profitable. And I do not think that the regulation of cryptocurrency by the state will change this fact.
Yes, this is the main problem in the crypto space at this moment. The majority of projects is only being used for speculating and trading purposes. But as the mainstream adoption will grow, some of the cryptos will finally find their real use case. Most of them will just vanish, but solid projects will stay and become really huge. Many cryptocurrencies fail in the mission but there are also few successful cryptocurrencies to be a means of payment at least. Maybe if the concept of NOBAR this obviously could be a currency or at least become a means of payment of interest.
