Regarding the expected hashrates from a 0.8V chip (22GH according to the first-post chart) and 60 chips per machine, why the machine's hashrate is rated at 14% under that.
=> As to string power supply, the core VDD for each chip is a bit different, and the max frequency should match the lowest VDD. After testing, we can get good manufacturing yield when the frequency is set to 350MHz, instead of ideal 400MHz. You can try to overclock the miner, and you may get more hash rate.
Also what provisions were made to keep node currents stable during chip use fluctuations.
=> During the boot procedure, the consuming current of S5 is increasing step by step. During the hashing procedure, the hashing function should not stop, though the current is stable.
One user keeps asking for the ability to disable individual chips, which for a string miner would be a pretty bad thing to have happen but if chips disable themselves, what provision is there for proper currents to keep flowing?
=> the chips in the string can not be disabled manually. At least there is no disable chip during testing and pilot production. If one chip is disabled, the rest chips of th entire chip-chain may still work, or fail. Both is possible.
Are there any provisions for chips overvolting? Like say, using a server PSU that's reading high and outputting 13V instead of 12 (which isn't terribly uncommon), giving you an 8% overvolt - say one node in your string fails short and now you're running 14 nodes. You're now 15% overvolted on all chips. How is that handled?
=> You can overvoltage or undervoltage the miner by adjusting the output of PSU. If there is a bad chip in the string, even the bad node is in the tail of the string, the miner may not work.
Althrough there are several types of miners which are designed with a kind of string solution, but there is a difference among them. We are sure our string miner won't catch on fire, Miner will stop working when hashing boards fail.
