I wish I could have posted this in a more better place but since the thoughts came from gambling addiction, I thought it wise to ask this question over here and I hope we can discuss and get this straight.

Just as the tittle already ask, I really want to know if people who are successful in gambling also seen as addicts because I believe  for one to be successful in gambling or whatever they choose to do, there must be some good amount  of time and effort invested in it as well as money and we know that a successful  gambler must have invested  both time, effort and even money to make any reasonable  winning and these also are features of an addict as there are always excessive time spent on a betting site.

Now let's be sincere, will you also classify a successful gambler as an addict?
Yes, he also gets addicted to gambling but here the question is, is this addiction a fruit full or abusive of my thoughts and opinion addiction is of two types one is a fruitfull in which a gambler invests all his time and money and makes a great fund in the last and the second is that when he put his efforts and in the last, he lose all his fund and goes to debt in this condition the addiction is very harmful and we should take care of this. We all need to be addicted to gambling but the fruitful one will give us more and more profits.
Those who can control themselves in gambling are not called addictive gamblers. A responsible gambler is successful in gambling because they understand the risk factors and know all the ways in investing money. But addicted gamblers who do not know how to take care of themselves usually have more greed at work. After winning once bet again without understanding anything and then loses. But after successful gamblers win take a break and then move on gambling addiction to gambling can never be productive as it leads to more losses.
Controlling oneself is a crucial part of gaming since it helps us to stay healthy as gamblers not gambling too excessively. The wise gambling would always bear their loses when they make mistakes that led to loses or when there luck is not sufficient to give them a winning. This is why we need to be exercise patience as gamblers. That is the only way we can survive the market and not have any problem with ourselves. When we can take proper control of ourselves as gamblers especially during decision making, we could likely become  addicted gamblers when we put in too much pressure and efforts to win.

indeed there were many cases when people won a lot of money and could be provided for until the end of their days but continued to play and lost all their fortune, I think big wins are very tempting and the player wants to try his luck again and with a high probability he will lose and later want to win back again .
I knew a person who played poker and became very dependent on it, he was waiting for the day when he would win back, but it never came. As a bonus, he received huge debts and he struggled with addiction for several years as he had constant breakdowns.

Yes, that's the thing.

Many people don't really know when to stop.

After you win big (which is rare), you have the chance to leave in a great position, but most people want more.

And in the process of getting more, they simply lose it all.

It happens to most gamblers, whether in case they get a win or end up losing, there is no word of stopping that they can really do because in gambling there is  absolutely no limit  on when you have to stop and go home, if indeed it can be done easily then it means that humans do not have "greed" in themselves, everyone has greed in themselves but not everyone can control it.

From my point of view, a gambler will be able to leave easily after getting a big win if indeed from  the beginning their goal is not winning or that means they are not too focused on winning but they only focus on activities to fill the time that on the other hand can be enough to entertain  themselves, and in most cases this scenario happens to those who gamble by focusing on winning. It is very clear that their gambling is based on the wrong understanding, someone who has such a goal they will never be satisfied with any amount they get because they will think that "this is a chance and it looks like I can get a much bigger amount", confidence has a big boost in this case, and the fact that winning can make someone forget that gambling is a game of probability which means there is no certainty and anything can be lost in an instant.

That would be nice but the problem is that no matter if that person new to gambling won and got away I think still he would be back at some time so most likely they will become addict as they will think that winning is easy and will keep losing becoming true gamblers.I don't know anyone that has done just that, won big and moved away from gambling and enjoyed life and never looked back.Difficult to do that so we have yet to see one such person.

Yeah, sometimes people get addicted very fast.

It's all in the mind, so they might end up in a bad situation after simply winning their first ever bet.

They think they can do it again, and then they lose all their money trying to win more.
Every gambler should be careful as they can win or lose and still be addicted to gambling, however, gamblers are more addicted when they lose, they are so particular about the reason why they lose in that manner and would want to change the narrative. Instead, it will get worse and slip them into emotional gambling and will keep them losing. It will get to the stage that they would want to revenge their losses, and before they know it, they might become addicted to gambling and continue to lose senselessly. The other scenario is that the gambler might start with winning, but it is not playing again that should be blamed here, but the inability of the gambler to apply wisdom to the winning. A winning can bring another winning or lose, so it doesn't matter, it is gambling we are talking about.

I am also not the type that causes fear in the minds of gamblers, so winning the first bet is not the issue but the mismanagement of the winning is, and even if the player loses the money back, he should still preserve his sanity and not lose it because he wants to gain the money back at all cost. So it can start either way and the poor management of the two (loss and win) causes the addiction over time. But still, it is losing that aggravates it as people would want to always believe that they can do it, they can make huge, money from gambling or at least get their money back. When it is not forthcoming, they try again and again and it would be late before they realise they are already addicted. But in winning, the gambler can still be happy about what he is doing, so there is nothing to lose if the situation is better managed if fear is not entertained.

Either you are successful or a responsible gambler, my people don't care, they will give you names that's suited for a addicted gambler and possibly stamp it on you forever, the way my country people thinks can be annoying at times.

From my own point of view, I don't see anything wrong here, a successful gambler might at one point struggle with gambling addiction and won the battle, such people will eventually become a better gambler and grow with time, but whatever people will say is just peoples opinion, most of them will never look at a successful gambler as a real man.

It's possible that those who ridicule you when you are a poor gambler can make a turn and start trying to get closer to you once you are successful, mind you, it's human nature, people are too shameless, but just have it in mind that once that money fades away they will always disappear from your life.

I think it's very hard for people to know us and your activities well. Our friends and family that spend a lot of time with us will be able to tell more about our gambling endeavors than our colleagues at work, or some strangers that we rarely met. So, how much value can we give to those people calling us gambling addicts? In the end it comes down to us taking a look at ourselves and see how many hours we spend gambling and profitable we are. Just because some has the feeling we are an gambling addict doesn't make it true. Verifying if we are a successful or unsuccessful gambler is easy for anybody that keeps track of his bankroll. Checking how much money we are up or down over the years can help a lot. But it's also no indication if we are an addict or not. I wouldn't give much attention to random people people calling me addict, only if it's a good friend or a family member.

yes, revenge trading can happen the same way in gambling
revenge gambling
like thinking you need to make the money you lost back the same way as you lost it

tricky one
better to avoid it
Revenge gambling just like revenge trading ends up in further losses because you will be chasing losses and you are not even thinking rightly at that point so it is better if you have lost for the day just exit and play another day but if you are saying you must win your money back the same day, sometimes you will win it back but sometimes too you may also loose all your money and that will even become worse than it when you would have left and still have your remaining money safe try not to always revenge it is not a good practice in gambling.

Many people who gamble especially the addicted gamblers most times engage in revenge gambling and the loose so it's not a good one to practice because you will loose more than you will gain.

The question let's turn it around and what do you mean by success in gambling, is this related to being lucky enough to win so that we try to classify them as successful people.
There is a risk when you spend time and money on gambling because it is impossible to produce consecutive wins according to the targets achieved and that means the chance of success in gambling is quite small.

Quote
Now let's be sincere, will you also classify a successful gambler as an addict?
I don't understand the relationship between success and addiction in gambling because what we know is that gambling is uncertain luck so saying that you are successful in gambling is very inaccurate.

Gamblers learn faster with experience. Working closely with the experience players helps if they hang out in same casino with the newbie. It's not only about an online reading and research. I think the newbie needs to learn from his personal experiences, when not opportune to spend time with a professional gambler. Staying watchful and cautious of the online instructions and the real experience could help the gambler to escape multiple addictive challenges that walks with gambling. Learning through it and becoming experienced such that gravity doesn't pull the player strongly to gamble irresponsibly. They'll undergo, indeed, some thick and thins till they begin to perfect it. Some days could feel harder than the other, but staying true and being a good citizen, the player would be able to bypass those addictive eras and see gambling for it's truly doing to the society and gamblers.
Talking to expert gamblers in a casino is a goldmine. Online reading lacks the excitement, atmosphere, and live techniques. In this interactive classroom, every game is a lesson and every player may teach.

I's different to witness than to participate, making your own decisions, taking risks, and sometimes learning the hard way. This hands-on approach creates resilience and game knowledge customised to you. Indeed, attention is essential. Maturity in gambling is staying in control, acknowledging dangers, and knowing when to back off.

Though the trip has ups and downs, its all part of the learning curve. Embracing both experienced players' advice and own experience helps make a responsible gambler. It's about enjoying the game, learning from every hand, and remembering that gambling should be pleasant and controlled

The newbies who learn from experts and tend to try out their own ways would someday get to a professional level of gambling. Because they'll easily adapt to the strategies of those experts on how to deal with losses, bankroll management, self-control etc. Not all of them have similar strategies. Hence a gambler needs to be vast and research further to have other perspectives of gambling and how it works. So, just relying on the information we see online won't be validated as a means of learning gambling strategies. The gambler also needs to follow up with gambling discussions with other gamblers, based on the results and outcome they encounter while gambling. Although the process may seem difficult to accomplish, but we all need time to adjust towards a positive aspect of life experiences.

Those professionals also invested time, so would the newbie before he understands the processes being used by professionals to minimize their losses. Some people can fasten their learning capabilities by taking their tutorials so serious. And implementing them immediately to at least begin to master the process. Gamblers who are fond of garnering information on gambling but fail to try it wouldn't learn like those who observe the reactions that follows if they try a specific idea. That's why the online reading technique isn't recommended for newbies who actually wants to learn how to be a successful gambler. Because even though the gambler is able to implement those advise, he may not be able to response positively to the result, when he's not under the watch of somebody else who can calm his nerves. Such is mainly the work of an expert to a newbie. In this context.

Gambling is one such platform where you may own a lot of money but it is very difficult to protect that money because most people get addicted to gambling they think that I will gamble and profit. This is a wrong idea. In gambling you invest such money that the money becomes your loss.  Even if it doesn't work out for you, maybe you can do something better than gambling.

It won't be worth doing even if there is a chance to get a big win because they will also get a chance to suffer a big loss. Every gambler wants to win big, so many still gamble continuously. However, those who are successful in gambling will be able to prevent themselves from experiencing big losses because they have experienced big losses before, so they must be able to prevent that from happening again. We also don't know whether those who are successful also experience gambling addiction. However, it seems they can prevent themselves from experiencing gambling addiction because of the many experiences they have gained from gambling.

The consumed time before a gambler learns all the experiences he utilizes while gambling plays a vital role. And newbies need to follow same routine before they'll be tagged responsible gamblers like the professionals. However, not all professional gambler is seen as addict in the eyes of many people, due the type of experience they've got in gambling. Staying experience and learning new methods of gambling can keep a gambler above the reasonings of people around him. Such that even if they know of his gambling habit wouldn't call him an addict because of his extensive self-control and social skill which doesn't leave any differentiation between him and non-gamblers. Not all professionals are seen like this, but the queen of comps, Jean Scott, got such skills that made her kids and relations love her for gambling.

I see your point and it's true not just a quick knowledge that being pick-up during the first attempt of gambling, but instead, there's a lots of time that being consume to learn the pattern and to make sure that all the emotions will be taken away while playing, newbies needs to understand both the potential and the risk behind.

You can play yes you can whenever you wanted, but learning the right path to avoid addiction and losing lots of money, you needed to follow some hints coming from those experienced gambler who already been on your shoe before they acquire the knowledge that they possess now.

This is the likely scenario because it's close to zero when it comes to people that are not going back to gambling anymore after winning a large amount of money. You never knew anyone because as I've said, there's not a lot of them to begin with. Successfulness can be considered an addiction and not an addiction, it can depend on the context, say if you're a gambler that's not playing a lot of times but you're winning a lot in those times then you're not an addict but you're successful and on the other hand, you can be considered an addict if you're constantly playing but at the same time you're winning a lot in those consistent plays.

You're right mate, I've also witnessed people who are new into gambling that doesn't play all the time but yet they always record winnings. Though there are still gamblers that can testify that ever since they started playing gambling that they've recorded more winnings than losses but that doesn't mean they were addicted before they achieved such level of success as it was basically luck because there are people that has less knowledge about gambling but whenever they walk into gambling hall and select some events they want to gamble on, before you know it they will just record winning whereas you that have a complete knowledge about gambling will be finding it difficult to win despite the fact that you took time to analyze the events before you staked on it.
Some persons do have what is known as beginners luck whereby they get lucky on first and sometimes subsequent trials but it still doesn't mean they are any better with analysis or they did proper analysis before they were able to get such win maybe they were just lucky and they happen to be in their lucky days.

They actually don't have to be addicted to get winning more often but then they can get addicted resulting from the frequent winnings because they would be tempted to think that it's that easy since they happened to be lucky a good number of times over certain trials, they may want to result to continues gambling since it appears like an easy source of making money without much stress compared to getting a job and waiting for pay day. Most  of this lucky gamblers turn potential addicts in the nearest future.

I perfectly understand your point about people of your country always tagging almost everyone they see engaging in gambling as gambling addicts and that's absolutely fine provided that the gamblers there controls their gambling activities. Like I shared in one topic in this thread, in some environments, gambling is seen as a bad vice that shouldn't be engaged in by anyone who truly mean well for him or herself and if for any reason you come from this kind of environment, you'll very likely to be seen as a gambling addict even when you're always in full control of your gambling engagements and doesn't play gambling like addicts.

To be a successful gambler is different from being an addict but because to some people, they'll have to be consistent in their gambling engagements to be successful in gambling, they're considered by many as gambling addicts. So if a gambler is always consistent in his gambling engagements, he's very likely to be called a gambling addict by many but that's doesn't mean that he's a gambling addict
