Still, I think this topic isn't necessary atm.

This Asia cup is to be played next year in 2023 while we have an all important FIFA world cup coming in November this year. So all eyes are on that event at the moment and no one is much concerned about the Asia cup except the small teams which are not able to qualify for the FIFA world cup.

I don't mind keeping the topic open but most people are eyeing at FIFA world cup at the moment.  Smiley

I think you mean to say Indonesia instead of Milan Smiley Coming up to the chance of Indonesia in the Asian Cup, I would not expect too much. They could go this far is more than enough already. At least they have shown something better than before (improved). Their chance to go further is indeed small, what they should do is do their best no matter what would be the result. Not to lose all matches in the Group Stage will be enough for me as Indonesian supporter.
I agree with you, still too far to reach the trophy.  there is a lot of homework for Indonesia to be better, the development of national football is very monotonous from every match and only this time the new coach makes a difference, this is quite good as a new start.  the only thing that has to be done in the future is to do your best while playing. I think this is enough for a team that has just entered again in the asia cup.
Right now, as we can check all data about teams which are participating into this Asian Cup peoples are creating feud about Indonesia without any solid reason and just because they are host country which is not good enough for winning this mega event in presence of too many strong teams which having quality and skilled players which some good experience. Indonesia was good team, but now they are playing after few years and having teams which are not experienced like Japan, Korea and Australia which are hot favorite for this mega event.
If they want to do something good then surely they need to settle their inner politics which are hurting badly this game and their strong domestic setup is also needed of time.

We have seen that whenever sports have interacted with politics it turns out to be a bad idea and it always brings out the worst in such teams. But one of the main reasons is that politics is dirty almost everywhere. When politicians get involved in sports they generally try to make a profit and that can go horribly wrong in many cases.

Indonesia is not a very good team in my opinion right now and a lot of people are saying a lot of bad things about them but they are the only ones who will be able to prove everyone wrong. A lot of other teams are hot favorites for this event as you mentioned and it is going to be hard for Indonesia to make some surprises.

AFC Asian Cup tournament in terms of quality, Korea Republic, Japan, Australia are more superior.
Other teams such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Thailand also have the potential to win.
The more countries that have the potential to win like some of the countries you have mentioned, the better it will be because in every game there will always be fun to watch, even if it's only limited to the Asian Cup. I will also be very happy if Indonesia can compete very well in the Asian cup with some of the countries you mentioned even though they all have different potentials and strengths in the Asian cup.

The problem of Indonesian National team is not about the development of the team, but it is more about political issue in PSSI as the official Indonesian football association.
Indonesia has so many talented players, but most of the time decision by the coach to choose the players and how to manage the team is still influenced by political power.
Seeing Indonesian back to Asian Cup can be considered as great achievement already because the last time they went to Asian Cup was around 15 years ago (2007).
Indonesia are the lowest rank team in this tournament, it should be taken as an advantage as they should have nothing to lose and fans should not hope for too high target.

Indonesia is my country, regarding indonesian football is indeed developing.

I am quite happy with Indonesia's success in qualifying for the Asian Cup, but I am a little worried about their performance. At the Southeast Asian level, Milan still struggles against teams like Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, while in Asia there are more strong teams. The possibility, Indonesia to qualify from the group qualification is very small, but hopefully players from our country can give a surprise like when they beat Nepal.

If Indonesia is able to win once and be able to play a draw or be able to survive not in the last place, it is very good in my opinion. The Indonesian game had improved before Shin Tae-yong became coach, but since being coached by Shin Tae-yong, the difference in the positive direction has been very good.

Why not directly support to the final ? Wouldn't the support of every Indonesian citizen be the spirit of the Indonesian team in the Asian Cup ?
Even though there may still be something lacking in potential, but as a citizen I think it would not be wrong to continue to support the Indonesian team so that they can get to the final even though in the end they can be defeated by others.

Quote
2023 Asian Cup pot list:

Pot 1:
Iran (Ranked 21 in the world)
Japan (23)
South Korea (29)
Australian (42)
Saudi Arabia (49)
Qatar (51)

Pot 2:
United Arab Emirates (68)
Iraq (72)
Oman (75)
China (77)
Syria (88)
Vietnamese (96)

Pot 3:
Lebanese (97)
Uzbekistan (83)
Bahrain (89)
Jordan (91)
Kyrgyzstan (95)
Palestine (100)

Pot 4:
India (106)
Thailand (111)
Tajikistan (114)
Hong Kong (147)
Malaysian (154)
Indonesian (159)

I'm giving support to Indonesia until the final, but looking at the available data, it's very difficult for Indonesia to get there with the current ranking

I just want others to also see the available data, even a few weeks ago, Indonesia lost to Jordan. So that's why I'm pessimistic about Indonesia going to the final

It looks from the teams that are participating here that the two top favorites for me to win this cup are Australia and Korea Republic (I am sure they mean South Korea here).I see a lot of other teams which are also strong like Iran but many of these other teams are of not of so good quality and they are not that well known in football.Nevertheless it would be nice to see and check if they have improved somehow because football in all over the world is in a continuous increase in quality so I hope the quality has improved in this region too.

Indonesia can qualify later in the group phase if the support and teamwork goes according to the strategy implemented by the coach.
Do you remember when the Indonesian U-18 team beat Korea Republic in the AFF Cup?

Among the Asian countries, Indonesia's gameplay is good enough. Indonesia had a remarkable 7-0 win over Nepal in the third round of the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers. From this it can be easily inferred that the team is not weak at all. Indonesia's youngsters are able to play well even against tough opponents. Indonesia also performed well against teams like Kuwait, Singapore and Malaysia.
In the match against Nepal, Indonesia was only lacking in finishing. So many chances that should have been goals were wasted. Therein lies Indonesia's real weakness that must be corrected so that it does not happen again when the tournament takes place later.
In that match there were some great Indonesian young players that happened, such as saving a goalkeeper.

I am also an Indonesian, but I still have doubts about Indonesia's potential in this Asian Cup

Tae Yong is a pretty good coach but the management of PSSI (Indonesian Football Association) still has a myriad of problems inside

Anyway I still support Indonesia, at least to be able to advance to the semifinals Grin

In every team journey there will definitely be something that will happen unexpectedly. We can expect that the Indonesian team will be defeated by another team when facing off and unexpectedly Indonesia can also beat another team that is considered superior to Indonesia.

When viewed from the implementation time, the biggest tournament event of the Asian continent is still one year away. But to have a discussion on the sidelines of a big league break, I don't think it's wrong, my friend, as proof that we like football.

So we will have a year-long discussion of speculation about who is the best country in our minds Grin.  I bet we won't get tired of this kind of discussion besides this will be counted in our daily post quotas.

Still, I think this topic isn't necessary atm.
It won't take long if our discussion is done casually. Of course here we can share thoughts about the development of Asian football such as the latest developments of players who will strengthen their respective countries.
The knowledge of friends from Asia regarding soccer is so great that it can be used as a reference in betting.
In addition, every discussion we have here can be useful for the campaigns that we follow as you say  Wink

Most votes in the voting mostly chose Indonesia as the champion, perhaps because Indonesia was considered the toughest opponent for the countries that would be its opponents. And maybe for some reason, Shin Tae-yong was able to make the Indonesian national team a strong and fast team in playing and also made a lot of progress while with Shin Tae-yong.
There must be a change for Indonesia because before the 2023 Asian Cup, the Indonesian national team appeared in the Asian Cup four times in 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2007 and in those four matches the Indonesian national team was always stopped in the group phase.
and the Indonesian national team will be placed in pot 4 along with five other countries namely India, Thailand, Tajikistan, Hong Kong and Malaysia and it is not an easy opponent for Indonesia. And the toughest opponent is the more experienced Thailand who always qualify from the group stage, but who knows there is a chance Shin Tae-yong can change the magic and at least the initial target is to qualify from the group stage. But unfortunately this tournament is still very long.

Most of the people here in this thread and having the biggest percentage in the poll voted for Indonesia,  I see that the their coach should be the reason, in my country I can't say that we will get many gold but I believe in some athletes last Sea Games that they will do their best in this Asian Cup. I really hope, our government give more fund to support our athletes, so it will lessen their worries.

The strongest candidates for now are Palestine and Uzbekistan but anything can happen because this event its long, by the way I favor Indonesia as the winner Cheesy .
Keep believing with Indonesian head coach Shin Tae-yong how incredible his formation success gave Asian Cup 2023 ticket for our country, I think if domestic league competition running well have chance for Indonesian can talk more on Asian Cup 2023 although we still under lower level on Asian. Indonesia success become second best runner up place from five countries and I think great result what did by Pratama Arhan cs how make Indonesia play on Asian Cup 2023 after last time on 2007. But now Asian Football Confederation still not choose who will be host for Asian Cup 2023 after China withdrew as hosts with Covid 19 reason.
Shin Tae-yong Having a sharp mind as a coach he has succeeded in attracting several talented youths, under his concoction Indonesia has a strong enough foundation to compete later and fight for the title. Who would have thought that the Garuda team would be able to join again in this event.

Haha, wth.. That's right, I mean Indonesia, maybe because I was online in the mid night, Indonesian time, so I lacked concentration.

Yes, we are all aware of the strength of Indonesian football, not to underestimate, but for now, Indonesia still cannot be categorized as a strong enough team to face teams in Asia. When Indonesia was able to win at the Southeast Asian level, at that time it could be said, Indonesia was already one level away from being better prepared to face Asian teams.

As an Indonesian, I am also quite happy with Indonesia's qualification for the 2023 Asian Cup. Although we don't know who will be the opponent yet, I can't wait to find out the results of the group draw.
Indonesian football is on the way to getting better even though at first glance it will be difficult to qualify for the group phase later.
