I'm on drugs, what's your excuse?
There are a lot of reasons why companies become number one. Google was one of the few that did it on merit but a lot of companies that had the best technology failed. Lets go way back to the days of video cassette tapes. The Beta vs VHS war, Beta had the superior picture quality, it had a smaller form factor, but it didn't succeed because VHS has gotten ahead of the game, it was the one everybody knew about, because of the marketing. Idealism is great, but idealism alone rarely succeeds. Anyway I respect your point of view, we well just have to agree to disagree. If Boolberry is to succeed I think that it really needs to work on its image.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

The reason Betamax failed was because it was more expensive and had a one hour recording limit. VHS allowed two hours meaning most films could be recorded in one hit.

By the time Sony allowed two hours recording (at reduced quality) VHS had a stranglehold on the market.

You see? It's the tech that matters.
VHS won because Sony wouldn't allow porn companies to use Beta...end of story.......Sony is letting porn companies use Blue Ray....They learned there lesson  Grin

Can anyone point me to another significant coin that has undergone a rebrand that has produced a marked positive result?

I can't think of a single one.

[ANN][XCO] XCoin | CPU - Fast, Easy Mine, * NO PREMINE * | Official Thread ---> darkcoin  Smiley

Sorry, no cigar.

The XCO/DRK renaming happened eleven days after the coins launch - hardly a rebrand, more like second thoughts.

Kind of similar to HoneyPenny in this case, although I don't remember the actual timing, that might have been before launch.

Of course the community comes first, but I want this coin to succeed, and if people entrench, and the coin remains stodgy it will never succeed. Boolberry really needs some PR, this coin is lacks branding, our web page makes no impression, a good web dev would go a long way. IMAGE REPUTATION things like that unfairly are more important to a coin success than the coin. How it is perceived is extremely important. Sure it's a great coin but if we don't re-brand its going nowhere fast.

I'll give you one example. Stealth coin put out a video, that is fucking awesome, it convinced me to buy into the coin some. We need more of this and less of the berry name. It doesn't add to the excitement of the coin. Check this out, were not even close to the marketing machine of Stealth coin. I'll say this the last time, It doesn't mater if the coin is the best coin in the world unless you have the marketing to back it up.  Here have a look and tell me, if this doesn't make you want to buy Stealth Coin? We need to play ball and create a coin people want to buy into, and not some boring coin named after a breakfast cereal

http://youtu.be/AUN4K72cv10

I think this video is awesome, and I think we really need to think about how we market this coin. Even if we keep the Boolberry name we need to remake it as something cool, and exciting. I personally think we should rename it, but if not at least re-brand it some how.

I'll ask again, did Google get to be number one because of the name or because it gave the results people wanted? They got lots of grief for the name early on, but it's utility was undeniable so the name became associated with that and now Google is in the dictionary. That's not going to happen with Rune.

Lets say Stealth becomes super-successful, lets say it starts to become mainstream - will it be able to continue calling itself Stealth? That has many negative connotations, will banks be happy with it? Government departments?

Essentially, what you are saying is that we are trying to fool people into thinking this is something new - is that cool?

A marketing campaign is a good idea, but one based on Boolberry.

As pretty much of an outsider, I've been on several forms, from the stealth coin forum, to Korecoin which is really interesting with there anonymous ViOP and eventually there adding video so a kind of anonymous Skype. From my perspective, the reason that Boolberry isn't seeing any action is that its grown stagnate in the alt coin environment. The top coins are the ones that are constantly innovating. Stealth has messaging, and now there working on a Open Bazaar market place etc.  I think a new rebrand wouldn't hurt Boolberry. It'd be fresh all over again, people would see a different name out there and go what is this all about? The give the coin a fresh look and see what makes it such a great coin. People see it in a exchange and just pass it by and say oh that old news, I more interested in Stealth, or Saffron, or NXT with all the Buzz going on around them. KoreCoin just started to buzz with this ViOP think. I was over in that forum. I've been over in forums of some really small players as well. If you jump around like I have  you really get a feel for what going on out in the larger altcoin environment. I can tell you this Boolberry is very rarely mentioned. Its kind of has been coin.I disagree with that because I think its the best privacy solution out there, but average investor wants action something to get excited about. I think a re-brand might do that. I personally don't mind the name Boolberry, but some people find it embarrassing because of the link to the male genitalia

Anyway that is my 2 cents, I'm probably full of shit, but just giving my opinion.  I can see I did misunderstood you. This is all pretty new to me, been only doing Bitcoin four about 5 months and alt coins for about 3 of them. So there is a lot I don't know.

But it makes no sense to make such a big change, largely against the wishes of the community, for a short term gain when it will give big problems later.

Boolberry is unique, friendly, connotation free and SEOwise it's brilliant.

I would be more embarrassed to use the term RUNE with all it's D&D/hippy connotations.

Google is now the biggest search engine by a huge margin - is this because of the name or because their technology is superior? Quite.

We don't want average investors if they're all going to quote Lord of the Rings at us - we need serious investors with vision.

Edit:

Just in case anyone thinks I have a thing against RPG gamers etc, let me put you straight.

I was/am a big RPG fan myself, although I prefer the Hero system to the D&D one. I'm a big fan of Vampire, Shadowrun and others. I could also be loosely classed as a hippy, but one that drives a big dump truck over the man rather than one offering him flowers.

The problem is we are dealing with peoples money here, it's not a fantasy world and we shouldn't label it as such.

Critical hit!  Grin

can i suggest an open vote donation based ?

address 1: bbr
address 2-3-4etc: rune and other bs

1bbr to enter the vote; bbr goes to dev.

This would be the best solution. Let's money talk.

I would add to your solution 100-1000 BBR introduction fee per every name going to be listed (fee for BBR not aplicable as this is current name) in order not to get spammed and seriousness of proponents.

I think your exaggerating the impact of the rename, most people that buy the coin probably don't even know about it. I follow this forum at least several days a weak, and I didn't know about the renaming until today. So if there is a effect I would imagine it's too small to be considered relevant  ant to the over all price.

That's odd because windjc has used even more tenuous "statistics" to prop up his arguments for a rebrand, why is it good enough for him and not good enough for me?

You can't have it both ways, so which is it to be?

You misunderstand. I think its a great idea, but you have to give it time to leak out. People need time to become aware of it. We live in a very insular community here. You have altcoins, than you have privacy related altcoins, then you have cryptonote. It reminds me what my mother always said. You worry to much not everything is about you, most people are more worried about themselves. I think that goes for fans of cryptocurrencies. This is a big deal, I agree but, to the altcoin community its relatively small even in relationship to of trades involving BBR.

No, I didn't mis-understand, I also don't believe you can judge the effect of a rebrand on price yet.

I was trying to illustrate the constant stream of logical fallacies that are being employed by the pro-rebrand cabal, I was expecting (wanting, even) to be called out on this as a way to turn the argument around onto them. I hope it's working.

Everything about this renaming is wrong, from the exclusion of the most popular name to the arguments presented in support.

A coup d'état (/ˌkuːdeɪˈtɑː/ ( listen (help·info)); French: blow of state; plural: coups d'état), also known as a coup, a putsch, or an overthrow, is the sudden and illegal seizure of a government,[1][2][3] usually instigated by a small group of the existing state establishment to depose the established government and replace it with a new ruling body.

I guess you're the guy who says coin x price is collapsing because a whale is buying up the coin, when in fact the coin is dying.

It's interesting that you mention this. Has anyone checked the order book on Poloniex since the rebranding started? There are now over 150 BTC in bid walls for over 300k coins. That is close to 25-30% of total supply. I am assuming this is the first time there have ever been this many bid walls.

Looks like someone(s) is accumulating. Guess not everybody thinks the rebranding is a bad idea Smiley

Really?

The price of BBR when you launched the poll was around .00082 BTC.

The price now is .000729 BTC.

That's a 12% fall in price.

Is this how the market expresses it's enthusiasm for the rebrand?

If you're so confident, allow a fair and open vote.

Rune sucks.

And that's checkmate.  Well played sussex.

Let's do a open vote.

The problem with votes on this forum is they really do tend to devolve into ballot stuffing by trolls and sock puppets. There is no good mechanism to do it.

Probably better to just conduct an open poll, recognize that the results will be a bit of a joke, but at least everyone has a chance to be heard. The developers then just reflect on the input and make a decision (much as CZ did a long time ago when first deciding whether to keep or replace Boolberry).

A vote where choices are limited and where people's posts are being deleted is the worst of both worlds. Some feel muzzled or censored, all for no good reason because there is still no real integrity to it in the end.

The poll as it stands now is a complete joke.

A poll taken on a moderated thread cannot be considered neutral.
