Might I make a suggestion on the naming issue?

There has been a lot of energy spent on this, but to me the most important thing is what the people who will be marketing BBR wants to do.

It is not like there are many people who will actually be doing marketing work is there? It is very easy to complain about this or that, but unless you are going to step up and be active in marketing this, then it seems that the ones doing the marketing should have the ability to change the name.

So, this debate is not whether you like Boolberry vs Rune, but whether you feel you are better than windjc at marketing and willing to actually do this. If not, then why dont we support windjc's efforts?

you can always keep calling it Boolberry to yourself. as others have said the tech is what matters to most people here, so then why this controversy over the name?

As a community do we want windjc to do the marketing or is there somebody else I dont know about?

So, let us do a poll of who wants to be in charge of marketing this coin. On this list so far is windjc. Any other volunteers? If not, then this matter is pretty clear to me. Have the best person available to do something and then trust them to do it without second guessing everything they do. So we weigh the vote by how many hours you are going to be spending marketing BBR.

Fair enough?

I hope this makes sense. I do have some amount of business experience and this falls into the category of business. Yes, boolberry is a very brandable name, but if the person in charge of the marketing is not liking it, then he wont do anywhere as good of a job unless he gets the name he wants.

So, do you want windjc to be demoralized about being forced to market a name he doesnt feel is right, or do you want to support him (or at least not fight against) so he feels the power of the community behind him. If the tech really is what matters, then please stop arguing about the name.

at some point in history boolberry would also be renamed to Arplex http://arplex.org/. and subsequently canceled, zoidberg said:

Boolberry is not the best name, i see.

But i've decided to stay with that.
i'm so sick of this naming talks - it's not possible to please everybody.
I like this name and i'll make a value for this name with my work and my ideas.

Thanks to all people who suggested names, i'm very sorry that i didn't like it, please try to understand me.
The prize will be devided between all who suggested in this thread, with thanks and respect. Sorry again that i didn't take name here.

Now naming issue is closed.

I'm gladly go back to work, hope we will appear on exchanges soon.

PS: those who was complained that solo mining is impossible - you can try your luck now since hashrate is pretty low now. this is your second chance.
PPS: those who don't like the name - that's ok, i can understand you and respect your choice if you go to Monero(or whatever). Mine in peace!

Now the question is: Why insist on changing the name?

I think there are other important things that need to worry.

I remember this well and also remember that in his pm correspondence with me he seemed stressed and unhappy about the whole debate. CZ is a very talented dev and coder, but I don't think he is so happy dealing with strongly expressed opposing views - it does his head in.

I was thinking about this earlier and wondered if he may have been hectored or worn down by the pro-rebrand cabal - who I will now call the PRC (see what I did there?) - maybe  he just agreed to hand over responsibility to get some peace?

There is certainly more important stuff for him to work on, this potential exploit being top of the list.

rename orbis  Grin

Orbis as in Orbit as in "to da moon?"

more likely "to da rune" looking at the votes in the other thread... :/

Try this thread instead.

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/unofficial-boolberry-namechange-poll-keep-boolberry-is-an-option-786564

Where the mid-game results are:

Rune    15 (27.8%)
Secore    3 (5.6%)
Vortex    2 (3.7%)
Boolberry    32 (59.3%)
BitRing    1 (1.9%)
Boollion    1 (1.9%)
Total Voters: 54

In most polls this would constitute a landslide, but here, strangely, seems not to matter..............

+1

Was the DarkNotes name dictated?  Did anyone vote on the name or whether to rebrand,  or on the narrowed down candidates?

No they decided against the method of trying to put a community-chosen or -endorsed or whatever halo onto a brand using a manipulated sham vote where perhaps 60% of the community has its views excluded.

Instead they were simple and clear about the rebrand being done in a top-down fashion.

On the substance of the XDN rebrand (and perhaps relevant to BBR, perhaps not), I'm less interested in XDN now. I thought the old branding was more unusual and interesting, and stood apart as a reason to pay attention to the coin at all. Now I see none.

I'm on drugs, what's your excuse?
There are a lot of reasons why companies become number one. Google was one of the few that did it on merit but a lot of companies that had the best technology failed. Lets go way back to the days of video cassette tapes. The Beta vs VHS war, Beta had the superior picture quality, it had a smaller form factor, but it didn't succeed because VHS has gotten ahead of the game, it was the one everybody knew about, because of the marketing. Idealism is great, but idealism alone rarely succeeds. Anyway I respect your point of view, we well just have to agree to disagree. If Boolberry is to succeed I think that it really needs to work on its image.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

The reason Betamax failed was because it was more expensive and had a one hour recording limit. VHS allowed two hours meaning most films could be recorded in one hit.

By the time Sony allowed two hours recording (at reduced quality) VHS had a stranglehold on the market.

You see? It's the tech that matters.
VHS won because Sony wouldn't allow porn companies to use Beta...end of story.......Sony is letting porn companies use Blue Ray....They learned there lesson  Grin

It had nothing to do with porn and everything to do with fitting a football match on one tape and taking to your mates to watch.

Just how would Sony deny anyone using their format once it was publicly available?

"The first videos released under the Playboy banner were issues of Playboy Video Magazine (also known as Playboy Video and Playboy Video Collectors Edition). Twelve issues were released in this series, from 1982 to 1987. Early volumes appeared on CED, laserdisc, and Japanese VHD, while all volumes appeared on Betamax and VHS. Issues contained content similar to the magazine;"

Looks like duckNotes rebranded to DarkNotes ! So much darkness floating around from Darkcoin, it's unreal how many phonetic clones have sprung from the terminolog(ies) used in Darkcoin.

Kinda awesome that zoidberg has a different taste and is not going after the "common" names.

Was the DarkNotes name dictated?  Did anyone vote on the name or whether to rebrand,  or on the narrowed down candidates?   How about those who got attached to the old name?  Should we go to their forum and show our concern?   Shocked Wink

Edit: I expected a sell-off of XDN after this outrage. Not sure what happened.

This would be the best solution. Let's money talk.

I would add to your solution 100-1000 BBR introduction fee per every name going to be listed (fee for BBR not aplicable as this is current name) in order not to get spammed and seriousness of proponents.

this actually makes sense.  and we should have to pay boolberries to vote.  a bunch of xmr trolls voting in that poll - and dark, etc  Roll Eyes

I would be happy to add any names to my poll for 100 - 1000 bbrs Cheesy

however they should all go to devfund probably

An auction is a better pricing mechanism and maximizes funds raised for the Zoidberg Foundation.

Highest bid wins naming rights.  Losing bids returned.

I'm backing the Bool with my stack.  Let's see if Team Rune will put their money where there mouth is and outbid us.

If the Shield Maidens of Sea Rune contribute more to the devs than Team Berry, they deserve to rename our coins and we'll live happily ever after.   Cool

LOL "Rune"

I personally don't mind the name Boolberry, but some people find it embarrassing because of the link to the male genitalia
