Indeed, 37 subscribers is not great given the amount of members here on the forum.

More content over time should draw more interest and along with The Pharmacist I
think we all were expecting at least another episode by now.

I think I will try to spam publicise the channel once there is actual content in it.
Now telling anyone about this project until then.
Hence I think low subscriber number is pretty normal so far.

I think it's important to remember that the channels associated with the growth of our channel aren't still that active (both the Youtube account and Twitter). It's very hard to attract new subscribers with just a teaser, even though it's something that it's associated with our forum. I'm sure that whenever we have more content to show - and thus more probability to attract audience - the numbers will eventually go up. If we think of it, most of the discussion that has happened regarding the channel took place right here, in this thread - we already discussed about values/ideas/directions that we would like the channel to follow - and I would consider that any subscriber that the channel has has most likely came from this thread. That number sits, as I write this, at 37 subscribers. This number, however, made me think regarding how much users have already participated in this thread and how active they were - can we extrapolate some reasoning behind the 37 subscribers? I decided to make a very rudimentary approach:

  • Run all the 17 pages of this thread and take note of each user;
  • I also tracked the amount of replies that each user has made. If his/her name was already on my list, then I would add a +1 to his/her reply count

A note of caution - I did this data collection all by hand and by running each page individually. It was nothing made by the aid of a scraping program, so there might be some errors (small % of error I would say). The results where the following:

  • Total users that have joined the discussion: 78
  • Nº of users whose replies were less (or equal) to 2: 56 (71.79%)

This leaves us with 22 active users that I think are more likely to subscribe to the channel considering how active they were in its discussion. Granted, this is a very loosely assumption, but I don't think its all that farfetched. One could argue that it's hard to define the limits to where we consider a user "actively" engaged in the discussion - I basically consider everything equal or above 3 - and how it translates to him/her to subscribe to the channel, but then again, this was just a simple exercise. For those who are interested to see the remaining users, here's a simple graph:

Do remember though that these users, despite being engaged in the discussion, may not decide to subscribe to the channel. Making a very big assumption - all 22 subscribed to it - we are still lacking 15 subscribers, that probably either came from Twitter, or from users who simply decided to open the first link in the thread and automatically subscribe to it.

Point is, I don't think that the current subscriber amount is something to worry about, at least for now. One year from now, assuming that we have a decent amount of content, we can see how the numbers look like and what we can do to improve them, but for now I believe we just should focus on trying to have solid videos, with a good balance between information and our ... "bitcointalk charm/touch" ?

I haven't subscribed to the youtube channel for opsec reasons but I am keen to watch any and every episode that airs.  I doubt I'm alone in this.

The anticipation reminds me of waiting for Heinz ketchup to come out of the bottle.  Maybe useful for product placement ad revenue?

I really cannot pick one.
That whole ironic "Coming Soon" thing on the Youtube video is starting to be a little more frustrating than amusing at this point (at least for me).  I know all things bitcointalk move at the speed of a crippled tortoise, but I was fairly certain that there had been some thought and planning put into the creation of the channel and would have expected a followup video much sooner than this.

And I'm still kind of surprised that there are less than 40 subscribers, even if there's only been a preview video released.  Either a whole lot of people who might watch the channel's videos haven't seen the preview yet or there just isn't the interest in it that a lot of us thought there would be.  I'm very curious to see if the sub count increases if and when the second video gets put out.

And I can safely say that I've just finished the PT-PT version of the subtitles (just in time to prevent my promise to being broken  Roll Eyes). I won't post them here since I'll have to constantly edit the link (again, don't want have them endlessly on the internet) but I'll send Cyrus the links where he can grab both versions. Looking forward for the video  Wink
That's fantastic work done by you and sure you should send it directly to Cyrus and he can then have a look at it and integrate them or embed them in the video for the viewers to have an ease who understands PT-PT subtitles.

1/2 of my promise is concluded - you can find here[1] the subtitles - in English - for our first teaser! If you want to know what they look like here's what you can do (sadly only available on Chrome atm):

  • Install yashagarwal1411 Chrome extension - SubtitlesForYoutube[2]
  • Drag and drop the .srt file on the teaser video[3]

I've downloaded the video using youtube-dl and on my side the subs are perfectly synced, but when I ran the subtitles directly on the Youtube video (using the previous extension) they seem a bit delayed on my side, I wonder if they would look slightly more synced if they were added by the channel owner? Anyways, let me know what you guys think!

EDIT: I'll edit this thread from time to time - with an new link - considering that wormhole.app only stores the files for 24 hours (and I don't want to host it "endlessly" on the Internet).

Ehi! It's Friday (again)!
It's the last Friday of November. This would be a great day to release the mid-September video!
(expectations are high, I continue to hassle @Cyrus, but in the end I will patiently wait for the release to happen when it happens)
How many Fridays you have cut off the calender till now? Grin .But yes in the end we hope that big surprise is to be unveiled by @Cyrus and maybe he is taking bit longer to cross our expectations this time also.

And it's Black Friday so give him a break, he is probably purchasing on discount all equipment needed for making this video  Cheesy
Maybe we need to start thinking about contacting netflix and making Bitcointalk movie.
Yeah he might be putting on hands to have some really cool video equipments for quality enhancement this black Friday sale.He could find some good cameras and other stuff to buy them at 50-60% discount what you are referring to.

So we will wait for it to be released with patience. Wink

Besides, I can assure you guys that video production is in full swing (I could of course say that the video is ready or that I have already seen it, but I will not).

We all just need to wait a bit and not put pressure on Cyrus so that he can comfortably do his job.  Tongue
Yeah we are also hoping for the same and it's just our excitement and curiosity for the first video to be aired which is why our instinct ask the same question with each Friday passing by and have a look at this thread to see if there's any updates about the video.

And to this i remember one beautiful quote :

Quote
No matter how great the talent or efforts, some things just take time. You can't produce a baby in one month by getting nine women pregnant.

So take time for high quality and good content video to enlighten people with true knowledge of forum and bitcoin to take over the rights from all those crap YouTubers shilling out fake coins with zero knowledge. Will wait for it  Cheesy

4. 19 Nov 2021

Almost passed.
Maybe a late surprise for the believers?
I ma starting to expect a pixel perfect video editing right now.
The expectations are so high.
Something like this:

We are ready to watch the video in 1080p or 720p but it must be released soon as Fridays won't end but our wait for the first broadcast of video on our channel should end early.

But still with the wait our expectations have gone high and I found out how much time it will take to upload high resolution video on YouTube and here are the findings :

Quote
YouTube says that a 4K video with a frame rate of 30 fps that is 60 minutes long can take up to 4 hours to finish high-resolution processing. I’ve found this to be quite a bit shorter, but it all comes down to the video quality.

So maybe next Friday?

In the meantime, I cannot avoid noticing tomorrow is Friday.
Friday is also the best day to release a Video, according to our poll.
Shall I hold my breath for the release?

"Friday is my second favorite F word."

How many Fridays passed since the teaser is out?

2. 05 Nov 2021
3. 12 Nov 2021

I think we already are a few weeks behind schedule. Also, I am not lowering my expectation, rather raising more and more every Friday I mark on my calendar.

Still waiting for the video and to reverse the poll it should be released any weekday but it should be soon as i don't want you to cut out the Friday's off the next year calendar Grin

The video has 325 views published 3 weeks ago with 37 subscribers and all that 3's make me believe it should be released before 30th

I'm not sure spending money on advertising here is the way to go for such a small operation.  I assumed the intent of this channel was to reach a new audience and bring them to our playground.  Considering it's basically a promotional tool for the forum, maybe considering asking for something like a grant and free advertising from bitcointalk would be a better approach.

I would also support this idea. I think that at least we could try to grab a free advertising slot in the existing ad space of the forum since it would get a tremendous amount of exposition as theymos recently published[1] data on the 345 round of ad slots shows us. We would benefit from both reaching out to fellow enthusiasts and we could have a compound effect on that since those new "leads" would most likely speak outside of the forum and thus increasing the possibility to extend our reach to other not so well BTC enthusiasts (but willing to be!). I do reckon, however, that a slot for "us" would mean one less slot to auction, and that may eventually make a dent on the forum revenue, but we can balance it out each week / monthly to balance things out.

On a serious note, I'd prefer to see a polished video that's a few weeks behind schedule, as opposed to a bunch of videos that were rushed for the sake of uploading content on the channel
I actually think a video a week is a little optimistic. I think I'd rather see monthly content, at least to start. I think this is how most people start out on Youtube, and other video production websites. Bring out the best quality possible, don't go in making schedules that will be hard to keep too, and keep it consistent.

I mighty be wrong on this one, but this also seems to be the method that is being employed by Cyrus and his team. I believe that they probably already have the next video ready (perhaps they are finishing up the editing effects) and perhaps they are already working on the next one (draft mode, filming some scenes already?). Thing is, the first few videos will be really important for whoever is running the channel - it will tell them which regions we are getting, the scope and reach within the Youtube Ecosystem and how well received (and how organic) or views are. This data will be essential for setting up a strategy and have a feel how the overall user reaction is. With a team of the size that Cyrus told us, I would also focus on very timed, but precise and incredible well craft content, just to pass on the message that we are building something really good.

On a not so related note, I've decided to jump ahead - perhaps to generate interest in other members?  Grin - and I've made a personal vow that I will create both English + Portuguese subs for the teaser within this month. Cyrus and the team are free to eventually attach them to the teaser or simply ignore it / put them into the bin, but I really feel that it it adds a bit of "polish" on it (if we may call it that) even if we're just talking about a teaser. If anyone reading this thinks that I shouldn't do this until we have a reply from Cyrus regarding this topic please let me know and I won't go ahead - I'm not trying to push things further, I just think that at least English captions would be great to have on the teaser. Anyone for sure could take a jab at it (perhaps even someone who is a natural English speaker).

I also wouldn't mind donating a little something to the cause if they were giving away items to viewers of the channel.  Maybe some silver and/or NFTs.  Hell, I'd go as far as to do the coding for an NFT project if you wanted to give away your own NFTs.  Although maybe it would be best to wait for Bitcoin's infrastructure to catch up on that front before doing so.
I've got this: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/auction-corrosive-creations-2x-10th-anniversary-pieces-5207305

However,  I think it would probably be better suited putting it up for giveaway on a the 15th/20th anniversary (which I absolutely love, and aren't in a hurry to get rid of). Since the Youtube audience wouldn't be that interested I suppose.
