When upgrading from S1 to S3 one thing to try after installing the latest firmware is to go to miner configuration select the advanced settings tab then select a frequency. Click on the save and apply button.

When I upgraded mine it would not start hashing until I set the frequency.

After posting last night, I reflashed the unit one more time , which seemed to give me the full control in the gui ! but I still have no hashing from the unit ! From here I proceeded in shutting down and checking all cables , this did not help ! I then connected to another power supply (both ps have been operating s1s with no prob) after connecting the other ps the small cable included for the new power board shorted out (fried) !!! I then left it for the night t  Angry this morn I have changed cables , changed hashing boards and changed the new power controller to no avail !!! unsure how or why the controller board from an operational s1 could b the prob but that's the next step except for the advice for upgrading cg-miner to 4,6 !?!?!

Any Other Ideas ? ............

Thnx

PLEASE HELP .....

I have just received my upgrade kits last night for the s1 to s3 conversion . no info in conversion kits , but being tech savvy was able to figure it out easily enough ! The issue is, I did not factor in the controller board being from my s1's and overclocked too !!! first one powered and half the chips x'd out , I then noticed the freq at 375 so I (as fast as I could) manually ssh'd n set the chip to 200 ! (which I found was the wrong settings anyway due to the new architecture) after a reboot I had no monitoring capabilities at all !!! I then proceeded and flash the firmware to no avail !! Huh The miner will run but there is no hashing and the status page is empty  Huh Angry I have two more upgrades to do and frankly would like them to operate properly !

Anyone out there have any experience with the upgrades ? should I flash the s1 then shut down before upgrading it ? Is there any hope for the one upgrade I have done Already ?

My experience with the s1's has been good they seem pretty bulletproof , I'm praying the new chips architecture is as tuff !!!

Any help is greatly appreciated  Cheesy

Thnx..........

Make your hardware upgrade and ensure all is done, then:
1. Start the upgraded rig- it will not hash since you still have the S1 firmware
2. Download the S3 firmware and flash it onto the upgraded rig - overwrite settings.
3. Flashing the firmware will reset the upgraded rig IP to the default static of 192.168.1.99 - if you have another rig set at the default IP, you will need to either switch it off for a moment while the upgraded rig is starting up, or change its IP to another before starting up the upgraded rig.
4. You will now be able to get into the upgraded rig via the default IP. I firstly changed the networking back to DHCP client then added the pool url's (which are overwritten)
5. Optionally, download and install cgminer 4.6 as the firmware still ships with the version containing security flaws.
6. You can either restart cgminer to start hashing via the Startup tab, or reboot the unit.

I just received my 3 S3+. I have 2 corsair hx850 PSU's. Will they be enough to run all 3 at stock speeds and would their be any wiggle room to OC them a bit?

No need to worry about PSU limit.
You can run the three S3+ overclocked to 250Mhz with these 2 PSUs.

Awesome. Thank you for your help

I had the same problem with my antminer but I reinstalled the firmware then it worked  Smiley
Ya I tried re installing the latest firmware several times. Still doing the same thing. Still not hashing and showing 4 chains.

make sure you uncheck the box that say's save current settings or you'll be wasting your time.

my antminer s1 upgrade kit isn't working. I think it has something to do with the fact that it is showing 4 chains under miner status, any help is greatly appreciated:

Found Lost beach - quiet now
I used the method above to overclock my S1s, but I thought you could change the freq from the advanced menu in the S3. My first S3s still in the mail. Do you still have to SSH to overclock the S3?

I would like an answer for this as well. I have used the "old" S3 SSH overclocking method to OC my new batch 8's but when I try to SSH and type "!wq" it doesn't save as it should. Another method maybe?

try :wq

bang is inappropriate before wq
I didn't notice the !. Try the commands separately: :w then :q. After :w you should get a confirmation of a successful save.

I still use the vi editor. With PuTTY I hit ESC to get out of vi and then :wq

You CAN NOT overclock the S3 via SSH in this way, only to add extra values if you want (but the file name and format is different from that of the S1); you gotta do it via the Advance tab.
Also, you are WRONG! Need to type wq! (with the exclamation after the letters!)

Welp
5 days in and my antminer s3+ caught fire!

This literally just happened like 5 minutes ago.
Rig went offline, went out to see what's what and try and give it a power cycle, no go.. So I swapped the psu for a brand new one and went to turn it on and was met with a huge cloud and smoke and an adrenaline rush. (all cables correct etc, I have 9 others from the same batch running on the same corsair rm1000 PSUs with uptimes of 5 days, no overclocking involved)

Does anyone have info for UK bitmain support?
Just tried calling the UK number above and its just a mailing forward address.

I already had this issue on a GPU; The SMD ceramic capacitor turns to fail in a short circuit state. If the PCB is not damaged, replacing the capacitor will fix the issue; if the PCB is damaged this is an other story...
What causes this to happen? I'm pretty worried about leaving any more of them unattended right now

What are the file permissions? Is the date/time updated when you use !w?

No it's not. Unsure of what you mean by file permissions.

Bitmain S1 upgrade kits..

Well after pulling my hair out for a couple of hours it dawned on me that you need to update the firmware with the latest S3+ ver.
At stock 225 freq its running at 450 GH/s  pulling  385 watts from a very high grade server power supply.
Want to let it run for a while before I try to ramp up the freq.
Stock form temp is 39C
will let you know how I make out with overclocking, If I get it to 500  I'll be happy.
Bob

Does your Power Supply provide all four PCIe connectors per Antminer
or just two per miner?

Just curious..

Looking forward to your update on the OC.

I'm using 4 connections per unit.
at freq 237.5 they hash at 485GH/s with a 1 degree rise in temp to 40C and power went from 385 watts to 410 Watts.

so far so good
