Hello,
I just got 3 used S3+ and they are coming in pretty low.
I puttied into one and set it to the 250 setting, and it's pulling around 430

What's the best setting for these?

I'm using them for heat in the basement. so Efficiency is not my top concern.

Thanks.

Which firmware is it ?   Make sure you have the correct voltage as well.  You have to find the sweet spot and do not try go go over 460-470 with 2 cables. It will get too hot and possibly melt.

I have a couple that run great at 231 - 237 .. 0750v . you have to reboot when changing voltage

wow people still think that changing the voltage on the s3 does anything?

it has been tested, and tested and tested again and changing the voltage does NOTHING to the chips.

It definitely does on mine. At 0500 I can barely get 15 out of 16 chips to show. At 0600-700 I'm stable everything works, at 0750-0800 overclocks and hot , 0850+ fire..

why would bitmain code a whole screen and settings only to have it serve no function or not be implemented. you need a certain fw and a perhaps a certain board rev but I can definitely confirm the voltage moves.

I've got them where I'm happy,
I'm using them as a basement space heater, so consumption isn't my big concern.

I have S7's located elsewhere, power is 7.5 cents CAD where I live, so cheap, maybe 5.7 cents usd? but int he summer, it get's hot. so colocated until winter Smiley

I have one with 4 pci, and am using the EVGA 1300watt.
two of the video power cables had duel output's, so one miner is running wirh 4 plugs.

All seems good now Smiley

Just wish I could find an updated miner monitor so I don't keep multiple tabs open

Thats correct from my point of view and experience! The power consump grows up with the higher frequency

Soft reboot yes, but I'm only running two connectors, maybe that's the issue?
no X's and its a high grade evga 1300 watt psu, plenty of power.

I may need to buy some pci splitters, and this doesnt have enough lines for all 12 conectors...
I won't overclock my unit without having 4 PCIe cables connected! Please be carefull that the cables dont melt and burn down your psu and all things around!

I hope you have a good psu and connect all 4 PCIe cables to the miner?
Look at the status page maybe the reason is of several "x" between the "o" because of the high setting after some minutes
Did you make a (soft)reboot after the changes?

got it working now. did a power off on the psu and restarted it

Good result, after trying Soft Reboot, always worth trying a complete Power Down reboot. I find the S3 a lot fussier when making changes than the S5.

Rich
I found the same thing, often after a soft reboot my S3+ would come back with x's in the chip section.  Soft reboots would never clear them, but if I powered down for a bit then back up all the chips always came back o's.  I ran it overclocked to 500GH.

one of mine gets ehtier - on blade1 or a x on blade 2.
the x on blade to comes after its been mining a while i'm running at stock did even try to underclock it but didnt help and it got warmer to.
i dont care that much payed about 9 EURO for 1 with psu its an upgrade from my 2 s1's anyway

If you are getting x or - all you can do is to check the PSU and then reduce the frequency and do a reboot.

from what i see i got a "new" one "old" unit.

the old didnt like 225 at all.
the new works fine at 225.

reason i think i have new/old is that on one of them i see rpm on both fans

hi.

have to antminer s3;s that wont OC.
in the asics it set to 225 but it only shows 218
dont know why it wont OC have latest firmware before i upgraded 225 worked
anyone have a clue ?

Did you Save & Apply after setting the frequency? Also sometimes with the S3 you need to do a Reboot. Which firmware are you running?

Rich

did apply and did a reboot also. did use keep settings when i upgraded firmware
firmware: antMiner_S320150109.bin

Well that is the same firmware I am using, also kept setting when upgrading. Have run at several different frequencies without problem. Have you tried different frequencies?

Rich
no not tried. but i'll give it a try

did give it a try with this nothing still 218

        option 'freq_value'    '1286'  #237.5M
        option 'chip_freq'     '237.5'
        option 'timeout'       '17'

        #option 'freq_value'    '0882'  #225M
        #option 'chip_freq'     '225'
        #option 'timeout'       '18'

        #option 'freq_value'    '1106'  #218.75M
