Unfortunately for Bivol he has not faced a fighter like Canelo, and he is a fighter trained to go toe to toe and rely on his power, there's no way to change how he fights, a fighter will live and die on the way he fights, it all goes up now on how hard he punches and can he get his punches to Canelo's face and body and can he avoid Canelo's attack, he needs to bully the bully here.

I like Canelo but there's too much praised for him here in this thread. If Bivol doesn't face a like of Canelo, also the same on Canelo too as doesn't face a like of Bivol. Just because Canelo is already an undisputed champion before moving up, he's an automatic dominant between them two. Canelo is the visitor here on the new weight class and the one challenging Bivol. I'm seeing Canelo will win but it's not that he will get that easily.

I'm even in the point where I like to bet on Bivol if the odds are great.

Expecting a close match between these too. I hope Bivol will erase the doubts of others that he won't be able to handle Canelo.

But if Bivol will used his face and will not play defense with Canelo, it will be suicide and he himself will get knock out because Canelo's has power in both hands. Unless he has a granite chin that can hold, but I doubt it because this is a higher weight and boxers do really punch hard.

True, Canelo is really a different breed of boxer, he really developed himself to be a great champion and can adjust during a fight which is a hallmark of legends in the past. As for Bivol, although he is the LHW champion this is a notch up fight for him. Again, a good paycheck comes with being a great champion but he will definitely do his best not to get knock out by Canelo.

It's official, one the most anticipated match this year has been confirmed. Canelo Alvarez will fight Dmitry Bivol on May 7. And not only that, if by chance he won against Bivol, Canelo will be facing GGG next (assuming GGG wins his fight with Murata).

BoxingScene.com has confirmed that the Mexican superstar has agreed to a lucrative two-fight deal with the streaming service that once signed him to a 10-fight contract that could’ve been worth $365 million. The undisputed super middleweight champion will box unbeaten WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol on May 7 and then, if the favored fighter beats Bivol, he will finally face rival Gennadiy Golovkin a third time September 17.

Wow! This is gonna be a great fight to watch. Both guys has a good potential. Bivol has a foot speed and hand speed with power. And i think Canelo is a great opponent for Bivol. Canelo has also speed and power. He is truly a fighter who is not afraid to challenge himself. If Canelo wins, it is because he has the experience on the big stage. If Bivol wins, he is ready for the big stage. Will let just see.  Hopefully they'll gonna be bring the best out of each other.

As what I see, both of them are very serious with this fight.

Undisputed super middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is hungry for more gold.

"I am very happy with this fight against Dmitry Bivol,” Alvarez said. "It is another great challenge for me and my career — especially as I go up in weight and face an exceptional light heavyweight champion like Bivol. I am also very excited that we have this fight slated for Cinco De Mayo Weekend — May 7 — for all the fans to enjoy. We will be ready, like we always are."

"I always only wanted to fight the best," Bivol said. "I believe that the rest of my goals will begin materialize on May 7."

let's just see what's gonna happen, though we all agree that Canelo will win this fight we cannot underestimate his opponent because he has some power and he is the current champion. We are looking at the next fight of Canelo because we are too excited to see a trilogy with GGG, but he has to take care of the business first, beat Bivol and the trilogy will be good to go.

Here are the boxing records of these fighters.
At first glance, I notice that this Russian boxer Dmitry Bivol is really an underdog when it comes to the records. But if you take a look at his records, undefeated, which is for me, this is his only ace for this fight compared to the Mexican boxer.
Another thing is the reach and height of Dmitry Bivol is also an advantage. This is really exciting match for me.
In terms of boxing skills and technique and he is up there with all the great boxers, time and time again Canelo has shown himself to be an all round fighter he can box and fight and also a very tough guy.
both in his body tricks and his boxing tricks are fantastic, and in this I think Conelo is probably better than a great boxer.
Bivol is a very good fighter, but compared to the quality and record that Conelo has, I think Conelo will win by knockout or points, Bivol is lighter and smaller and Canelo is competing at 168, the difference is not that big.

Big jackpots await for those who will bet on Bivol he is a heavy underdog here, I watched the highlights of his knock out wins and he is really good but those he fought do not even offer resistance, they just stand there waiting for the big bomb to drop them, they are intimidated, in the case of Canelo nobody intimidated him even fighters who has outstanding records and has knockout powers, the name of the game is intimidation if Bivol can overcome it then we have a fight, and Bivol has a chance.
Mayweather is the one who can intimidated Canelo, he have good head and body movement to evade Canelo's punch. As I said before Bivol is only lack of defense and movements, but he do have good offense. Does Bivol want to prove good offense is the best form of defense?

Bivol is higher compared to Canelo, Canelo would difficult to punch Bivol's face... it would be better if he give more body shots.

No, I don't think that good offense in the best form of defense in boxing, only a couple of fights that comes to my mind that uses his face as an offense to be able to attack, Margarito vs Cotto I.

Heights have never an advantage for those fighters who fought against Canelo we've seen that on Plant's fight and against Smith they all looked small when Canelo hit them with power shots, Canelo is always the bigger guys and those with height and reaches advantage they use their advantage to run and not to beat Canelo, I don't see Bivol's height an advantage here he will fold up and look small when Canelo hit him with powershots.

Looking at the poll, i'm the only one who bet for Bivol hehe and i think so because Bivol is not a pushover and he have the package to defeat Canelo.

I might join you on this. Not saying Bivol has the upper hand but Canelo looks overrated to me that others think Bivol is just a small fry. Although Canelo is proven really strong and has already proven that before considering having a leap in his career, it doesn't mean the Bivol is nothing.

The odds for Bivol are expected to be high. Might put on a bet on this underdog.

Fighting Canelo is like winning the lottery, similar to what Pacquiao is before, that's why many fighters wanted to have the opportunity not only to fight but have a good pay check as well.

Everyone can intimidated his opponent, but if you don't have the tools then your opponent will just laugh at you. So you also have to back it up and I'm sure Bivol is not going to be intimidated here because he know that he has a puncher's chance.

I believe, Canelo knows what is at stake here. Because going up the weight division is indeed a risk for him as he may not be comfortable with the added weight.

I don't think Canelo will have problems with the weight, he has a really heavy punch to know out any contender and that's what we will see in this fight.

My bet will be for Canelo, without a doubt this will be one of those easy money bets.

Canelo knows how to adjust. I also don't see a problem about adjusting with the weight.

There will be no problem as Canelo knows how to manage it.

Canelo has been thru many weight divisions in his career and now he will go up again and face another title holder though he isn't popular isn't he?
Anyway, Canelo as usual is the pick to win in this fight but there is still a chance for Bivol to win (quite low though maybe around 1-5%).

I think Bivol is the champion, 5% is very low here considering that Canelo is moving up in weight and he might not be able to carry his power with him, or he might slow down. I think Canelo will win but I would not underestimate his opponent who is a champion.

Canelo is just more popular for those who are not familiar with those top boxers at a much higher tier. Although Canelo has a more chance of winning, I don't think Bivol will give his win easily, or maybe, he might defeat Canelo if things turn favored to him.

Bivol on the other hand won't be a champion if he's soft. He held the WBA light-heavyweight champion since 2017 where he defended it the 8th time already (prior interim). His record also tells us how strong he is.

I think this is a two-fight package (not sure though), after this one he would fight GGG for the trilogy so win or lose he will face GGG.

There's a report (or maybe I will consider it as an article from the author's perspective), that Canelo will fight GGG, not because of the reputation, fame, or to settle everything with the trilogy and prove that he's the one dominating, but the money purse on this fight is something he can't resist.

The author mentioned that Canelo is unfair as he waits for GGG to hit old age before accepting the trilogy fight which is already requested for a long, while currently, he's in the prime to make sure GGG won't stand a chance or have an advantage on their trilogy. Easy big money while having a not much big threat that Canelo will lose in the fight.

What do you think guys?

Yeah, with the huge demand on this fight, plus the date of the fight itself, the tickets could sell out literally in minutes regardless of the price. And this could be one of the biggest fight in history and maybe can get to the numbers similar to Pacquiao vs Mayweather. Who can't resist $100 m++ per fight?  Let me quote Floyd, hehehe:

Cherry picking, this might be in the minds of the haters of Canelo lol. After unifying the belt, his team thought of moving to the cruiserweight but somehow it didn't push through maybe because the water there is dangerous so they are taking the less dangerous route and that is fighting on the light heavyweight division though there is still danger but it is not like in the heavier cruiserweight division.

Alvarez has opened as the -360 betting favorite against Bivol who came back at +250 when the betting lines first opened on Friday.

+250 is equivalent to 28.6% implied probability. You can check on the odds converter below.

I believe, Canelo knows what is at stake here. Because going up the weight division is indeed a risk for him as he may not be comfortable with the added weight. But he will feel that uneasiness during his training, and he may look for strategies how to adjust inside the ring. But even here, the poll is all in for Canelo. No one is betting on Bivol here? Are we going to see the Canelo vs GGG again? Hopefully, this year. Because GGG is nearing his retirement age.

From what I have read, if Canelo wins this match, and GGG beats his opponent, we have a good chance of seeing a Canelo vs GGG trilogy. If that would happen and GGG loses, I'm sure he will think of retiring from boxing but the fans will always remember him because he is one of the great boxers in his generation.

Yes, most likely this is in the works if both of them are going to win their respective fights. And this what makes the boxing public very excited, a 3rd fight Canelo vs GGG. Both of them have cemented their legacies to be the best boxers of our generation. And most likely Canelo will be the best Mexican boxer ever, even surpassing the legendary careers of Julio Cesar Chavez Sr, Barerra, Erik Morales and JMM.

Exactly, maybe this is Canelo walking weight for all we know. So he doesn't have to adjust to the weight at this division, he can eat what he wants and then come up at 175 lbs. And he has campaign once at this division as well, so there is no risk as he has done it prior. And he is a former champion at 175 lbs, he just go down to 168 lbs and clean it up to become undisputed.
