Like all the other early big fights of Canelo he is the heavy favorite, here only two people out of 30 voters here believe Bivol can beat Canelo, I have this feeling Bivol is the weakest opponent Canelo will face, he lacks defense doesn't have a good lateral movement and flatfooted, something Canelo exploits with that kind of moves.

Alvarez   - 27 (90%)
Bivol   - 2 (6.7%)

As always, right? I mean, it is quite expected and nothing new about it that Saul Canelo Alvarez will be the heavy favorite, he ain't called a pound-for-pound king for nothing. Most of the people here in this forum are an avid fan of sports especially boxing and they also know that Canelo has the higher hand here than Dmitry Bivol.

Bivol may only have 19 bouts in his whole professional boxing career but that's a clean record with no loss at all and more than half of his bouts are KO. So, that doesn't mean that he is weak and probably not the weakest that Canelo will face.

If this cases will remain, then I don't doubt that a time will come that they won't let the said athletes or fighters to join such games or events just because they do not share the same beliefs or views.

And that would make the sports boring. Actually, sports is one of the best ways to unite countries, we compete through sports in a friendly manner and it should remain that way. With politics, the real purpose of sports or competition will not be achieve.

There's a report that the Klitschko brothers believe that Bivol should not be allowed to box

Asked whether Bivol should also be barred from competing while the invasion takes place, Wladimir Klitschko explained: “It’s nothing against the athletes, it’s about the politics of Russia.

“Every Russian representative in this case needs to be sanctioned because this way we show Russia the world is against this senseless war and there is no good in this war.”

but for me, this is a good fight and every Canelo fight whoever he is fighting is always a great fight I want to see this happen but I'm also supporting boycotting of Russian products.

That's very personal for Klitschko brothers because they are Ukrainian and they are under attack by Russia, so it's expected that they'll feel that way. However, it's not them who will decide, the fight is decided by the boxing organization and I expect them to make a fair decision, free from political bias.

Yes, of course as Ukrainians but former Heavyweight champion they will have their own opinion on this. But it doesn't matter, still boils down to the decision of the governing bodies involved in this fight.

Anyone hearing about the opinion of Canelo? for sure he wanted the fight to happen and he will not look at Bivol whether he is Russian or not. And so let's see what will be the final decision here and crossing our fingers that this fight is still going to be made.

Personally I think this is going to be difficult, because unlike with what we see at the FIFA World Cup or at the Olympic games in boxing athletes are not competing while representing their nations, obviously Bivol is Russian and Canelo is Mexican but they are not expressly representing their countries unlike with that happens with other sport events, so I do not think sanctioning Bivol would be the right thing to do here at all.

Yeah, definitely it would really make the sports boring. The sports industry was used to be that way but the situation now is different, how can sports unite the countries if they are also indulging into politics.
On Canelo's side, if he can't fight Dmitry Bivol? Then who will because the man have defeated almost all champions in the boxing industry.

Sanctions can be different. They can prevent this fight to happen on a specific territory, or ban Russian boxers from boxing federation at all. In scenario, where Dmitry Bivol cant get visa and get to US for a fight, where it might presumably happen? I know that Germany and UK are places where lots of boxing fights happens, but there borders will be closed for Bivol. In Mexico? Are they friendly (so far) with Russia? In one of Asian countries ? Most likely not, Canelo would not accept it. Is there a list of countries where international boxing organizations allowed to have a fight? Or in any country title fight is counted as acceptable?

The real essence of sports is the sportsmanship and competition among players and the team or country they represent. If the sports would involve politics in it, it could be a little bit messy. Although I know for a fact that everything is political. It's just that, there are right places and right time for those topics and conversation. If you would force into someone the beliefs and principles you hold, it wouldn't be good since you are imposing it. And by imposing, you are violating their right to be entitled on their own choices and decisions. It's okay to educate and let them be enlightened if you think they are thinking or having a flawed mindset for having or idolizing such, but we should know where to draw the line. Crossing the boundaries and limits is rude. The athletes are playing because it's their passion. We should not decide for them and we should not bully or set them aside just because they have different perspective and opinion than ours.

Wouldn't it be suspend because of the Russia invasion? many sports league already removed Russia in their competition but the WBO does not yet? or they doesn't care about politics? In this match I think I would go in Alvarez, I see his previous matches and I think he can't easily beat by Bivol though Bivol doesn't have much professional boxing career his previous career in non professional boxing is great too. This is very exciting match.
I hope it will not be suspended, we have not seen Canelo having a fight this year yet unlike last year when he fight 3 times in a year IIRC. Sports should not be mixed with politics as its main purpose is just entertainment, so I hope we will see our expectations.

Same here, even without the fact that we haven't seen Canelo fighting this year, I do hope that this fight will continue and not just this fight but for other Russian Athletes as well that have some games or fight scheduled even before the implementation was posted. These industries is for sports and entertainment, and not for politics. They should've let the elected country leaders deal with it.

Anyways, did you guys saw the viral news about Vladimir Putin's statement for FIFA? If not, here it is.
Quote
FIFA must not enter into war politics, The National Football team of Russia will play FIFA World Cup in Qatar, or there won’t be WORLD CUP at all” -Putin

That statement is very positive, it's a go on his side but hopefully the same on the side of other countries or the organizers of the boxing event. When politics will come into the picture, everything will become biased and that will kill the excitement. Just let them fight, at least in times of war we can still entertain ourselves.

Indeed, it was. It is just really unfair for these boxers and other athletes to be treated this way and be banned from certain games just because their president started an invasion and war in the far north. I mean, c'mon! They're aren't taking part on the war, they are just here to make money while entertaining people.

The statement of the sanctioning bodies and other giants in the sports industries are heavily biased, they cannot just ban those said athletes and get the fights unsanctioned just because their nationality is Russian is really unreasonable and wrong.

If this cases will remain, then I don't doubt that a time will come that they won't let the said athletes or fighters to join such games or events just because they do not share the same beliefs or views.

Yes I hope it will not be suspended too and sports should not be mixed with politics but we see a lot of leagues including FIFA and UEFA ban Russia in participating to their league. Let's just hope the WBO won't suspend the fight i wanted to see Canelo fight again in the ring.

This is right but as we have always observed or even experienced first hand, sports and politics are oftentimes closely intertwined more than we could imagine. Politics have so much influence not just in matters pertaining to governance but also in almost aspects of public life.

I hope this fight will still push through but in case WBO and other boxing organizations around the world are ordered to remove Russian players from their leagues I think they can do nothing but comply.

The only thing that makes this fight anticipated is that this involves Canelo Alvarez. Other than that, the anticipation is not this high. That Dmitry Bivol is Canelo's opponent does not make this fight anticipated. It does not make this fight exciting at all. The odds says it all. But I am still considering the possibility of an upset. Bivol has the youth in him and has the advantage in terms of stats. If he only keeps Canelo at a distance he will make it to a unanimous decision. But this is still an uphill battle for him.

Still very exciting as Bivol is undefeated, has a good knock out percentage. So there is slight chance of an upset if Bivol hit him square. We haven't seen Canelo being tested since the GGG fight, all his opponents in 168 just breaks down from Canelo's attack. I think Bivol will be a tough match for him at the Light Weight so this will be a good match up.

Since this is the first time that Canelo will fight after deciding to move up, we are all ended up speculating on who's the dominate one to each other. It's good that Bivol is the one that targeted by Canelo to test his skills.

Bivol should not be treated as heavy underdog on this fight even most are eyeing for Canelo to win.

On the possibility of fighting GGG, regardless of the result of this fight, Canelo might likely to push the fight against GGG.

Yes, but the magnitude of the hype between the two will double up if both will win their respective fights.

Bivol might be the underdog, but this is his weight class so for sure he is more familiar as compare to Canelo although he has fought in this division already, will have to make the move again. Bivol will have to embrace his underdog status but prove it differently in the right and we hope that it will really be a competitive fight.

I support the war but a match that was already prepared before the war should not be stopped because of the politics of war, I like this fight to happen let's see if a young guy from Russia who is touted to be the next big thing will have a chance to go against a guy considered to be a pound for pound, of course, people will go for Canelo, the audience will see it as a way to revenge Ukraine against Russia, honestly this is going to be a good fight for Canelo another added fight to his legacy.

As far as the progress goes, I think there will be no delays nor cancelling the fight just because of the current conflict that happening between Ukraine and Russia. It was already set and go and the fight should be push no matter what as it will affect each boxer's timeline for their next possible lineup of fights.

I don't think though that Canelo winning here will be considered by the audience as a revenge against Russia.

I don't see how people will end up on that thinking. It's not making sense for me.

Some rising ideas are really not making sense anymore. People are getting angry to Russians even hatred. But we need to put ourselves in their shoes. Do they want this crisis to happen? Most of them are condemning the acts of their leader, but they couldn't do much. They also have the privilege to live. Only unfortunate that they are holding Russian passports but for sure, their hearts go to their Ukrainian brothers as well. But anyway, even without this war, I think, people will be rooting for Canelo because of his record and performance, though, Bivol has zero loss on his record here.

I don't think it will be suspended, Canelo is the face of boxing and if they did with his first fight for this year, this might send a bag signal for all Russian boxers, and it's not be good for the sports. Boxing fans wanted to see Canelo this year against a tough fighter in Bivol and hopefully this politics and sports should be separated.

It is really sad that everything is been tied up and its true that there's should really be some exclusions on things that had been already set earlier and there should be some exemptions.
Yeah this guy had been touted to be the next big thing which i could see that he would really be giving out some good shot against Canelo but although this would really be just
like on breaking a huge wall even though chances are slim but its not impossible.

Right, maybe this is just the initial reaction of some sporting bodies to the news. And hopefully they will have to change their stance because this boxers should also not be a victim of the war. This is a highly anticipated match and if it will not happen, then the boxing schedule will have to readjust again and Bivol will have to wait. The question is will he have a second chance against Canelo if the fight will not be allowed in May? Another waste of time and opportunity for him to fight the current pound for pound fighter.
