^^ He is young and very ambitious, tall and has the advantage on Canelo (reach and height). And he has a good power too, so it's a perfect match for Canelo. But so far he is not on the radar of his team, after GGG maybe they will have to think if they will go for rematch with Bivol. Beterviev is out of the equation for him. There could still be some boxers in 168 lbs that could be safe fight for Canelo. Maybe one try at light heavy weight with Bivol and that's it, regardless of the outcome.

For sure David Benavidez will be considered in the future as a Canelo opponent, maybe after the Bivol rematch because there is not much option out there for Canelo when he beat GGG in September lol.

As early as now, Canelo is already talking of a rematch with Bivol but if the unification fight between Bivol and Beterbiev pushes through then that rematch will take some time to materialize as that fight is what people wanted to see.

Canelo will only make himself suffer again, he cannot beat Bivol, his style will not work on Bivol as we have seen in their first match. Bivol is willing to give a rematch, but for sure the negotiotion in terms of money will be different in the rematch.

This discussion is a bit premature. First of all, Canelo need to defeat Golovkin during the trilogy fight. Although I believe Canelo has the upper hand as of now, nothing is certain. Golovkin won his last match, while Canelo lost his. And in case he gets defeated once more, then he may not get the opportunity to chose his next opponent. Bivol may get a fight against Joshua Buatsi later this year. I have also heard the names of Gilberto Ramirez and Artur Beterbiev. Canelo turned down the option to fight against Bivol, but he may consider that option sometime next year.

We love this two fighters, but after the second fight, it seems that Canelo head and ego grow big as he doesn't want to give GGG his trilogy. But finally, it was set already so again, emotions are going to run high between the two fighters as GGG said that he won both fights and then chase Canelo for many years.

Who will resist expected big money in return just to accept the call of everybody to do a trilogy with GGG? Smiley

Before the fight with Bivol, it was reported that Canelo reached an agreement to fight Bivol plus two more fights in 2022 in exchange for $160 million.

That was just for 1-year fighting and that was an insane amount already that Canelo will surely bag this year, I think regardless of the result. We just don't how much specifically he will earn with the trilogy. That money figure that Canelo expectedly to receive this year alone, contributes to his status as one of having the highest net worth in sports.

That amount is already huge, more than enough for his retirement.
But he has a long way to go to his retirement phase.
Canelo is favored on this match, so the pressure is real.
He should show us a different Canelo here and have a very worthwhile match.

Yes, that amount is already huge enough to cover his expenses for his along with his beloved family but that money is still not enough and he will still get more because we know that Canelo can still dance will in the ring and he is still at the peak of his prime, that said, $160 Million is just a small amount compared to what he could bag in the coming years.

I'm just curious though, @goinmerry said, that said figure was paid to him in-exchange to fight Bivol and other 2 fights. Who's the 3rd boxer? As we all know, Bivol and GGG were the ones who established the fight this year, so there could be a 3rd fight for Canelo this year after September? I'm curious about that.
Names like David Benavidez, one of the Charlo twins or even Arthur Beterviev's name has been popping up as potential fight for Canelo in the future.
David Benavidez is good for Canelo because he's at supper middle weight and I bet that will be a nice match, but Artur Beterviev? I don't think so. Artur is such a heavy hitter one Canelo would struggle for sure, I'm not seeing Canelo making Artur struggle and surely Canelo wouldn't survive full 12 rounds, IMO. Canelo should give up facing boxers in light-heavyweight as Bivol surely taught him some lessons that Canelo is way beyond his line.

F***ing Bob Arum made a deal already for lineal champion Artur Beterbiev to defend his 3 belts in England against Anthony Yarde. Right after the fight, Beterbiev clearly said he wanted to unify the 4 belts in order to become undisputed. Beterbiev is already 37, time is his enemy. He needs to fight the last remaining belt holder Dmity Bivol. Canelo Alvarez a guy who always wanted to challenge himself will surely try again if that fight is for the undisputed belts. In this 4 belt era, there was never been a 2 division undisputed champion. Canelo might become the first one.

That's literally unfortunate for Artur Beterbiev because he might have no chance to fight for an undisputed fight against Dmitrii Bivol as his voice is nothing when it comes to his promoter, Bob Arum. Every boxer's dream is to have a legacy and Artur Beterbiev is definitely capable on being an undisputed fighter if Arum gives him a chance earlier because now he's turning 38 years old while the other title holder is still 31 years old. I won't be shocked if there's no one gets interested anymore in signing the Top Rank.

That was really unfortunate. Father time is catching up for Beterbiev and Bivol is still in his prime. They need to get this done.

However, if it's about money, Beterbiev will surely enjoy what he will receive. Bob Arum is maybe a fuc*ing bastard but without his influence, a fight might not generate a good income. Bob Arum knows well how to make big money in every fight he is organizing.

I'm speculating 2 scenarios here:

a) stay away from Arum's shadow after the fight with Yarde so he can demand a unification against Bivol

Or maybe,

b) Arum told Beterbiev that Bivol fight will be next if he beats Yarde

I hope there's a negotiation like that so Beterbiev could have a chance to unify with Bivol and prove to the world that he is the better figher. Retiring undefeated but you still have a lot to prove would result to non satisfaction as a boxer, you only retire undefeated but you are not an accomplished boxer.

There is no stopping his Artur Beterbiev age, and yes he needs to keep on fighting until he turns on the age he can not have his devastating punches again, after this Joe Smith Jr. fight fans would love to see an Artur Beterbiev VS Dmitrii Bivol, until they are out of their prime, I don't really know what stopping Arum from giving that fight, but I think it is a good fight that many will surely wash,

WOW! I never thought there is a thread about the Canelo VS Golovkin fight, I am surprised about Gennady Golovkin being 40 years old and still kicking fights I'd say Canelo Alvarez is still at his 31st of age while Golovkin is readying for his retirement, from what I see from both fighters 1st 2 fights a draw and a win for Canelo Alvarez, in my opinion, this could be a repeat of the past but in my opinion, Alvarez still can not underestimate Golovkin for his age this is a fighting trilogy for me I think Canelo Alvarez has a lot of advantage from age, experience, and the technicality, so my pick will be Canelo Alvarez

^ Probably Arthur and his team are offered by the second option by Arum himself. And reason out that belts are not that important, he has cemented his legacy already with a 3 belt that he is holding right now. So obviously, this tactic is milking his cash cow. Sure win for Yarde fight and it it goes into England, more money for them are British is know to be a very sport loving country and they love their home grown talent.

Arum is not new to the business, in fact, he is the oldest promoter if I'm not mistaken, so he really knows how to play the game, he will milk his cow and will continue to do the same strategy so he will become richer and richer. That's why we have other promoters, but Top Rank is such a big promoter, it gives their fighers a chance to be popular but they have to follow the rules as the promoter will always have the last say.

2nd option will generate more money, he just need to wait for that moment where he can fight Bivol but at this moment he just need to keep winning to collect more money, it's not just sport but a money milking place for promoters like Bob Arum, he understand how to manage every single fight of his fighter.

He knows well when to orchestrate a fight and how to bring more audiences and interest, Boxing industry knows the man and his way

of handling legends, no problem as long as he and the fighter collect big paychecks, the show will move on.

As a promoter, all he can do is bring more cash to the table.  Probably the fight against Yarde will yield them more income.  The promoter is all business, they don't care about a boxer's legacy but the money to make when dealing and closing a contract.  But well, they can fulfill that wished fight later and I think another year of waiting won't affect Beterbiev's fighting statistics.

That's why some boxers leave the Top Rank promotion because they cannot do everything they want. Bob would make sure that he will not lose his cash cow, but as a fighter who wants to build some legacy before he retires, he wants to be an undisputed champion. It would be nice to see an undisputed fight, but it's always the promoter that will be followed.

Promoters still have the last decision when in terms of every fighters fate, they can't do anything under the contract that they've sign if they wanted to make their own ways the only chance in doing it is to leave the camp and explore to any available opportunities, Arum is a good example that fighters needs to leave Top Rank after gaining the hypes, if they want more legacy and bigger amount of money they need to leave, Arum will not let his cash cows not being abused he will suck everything until the fighter realized that they can stand on their own and find the way to continue their legacy inside this sport.

Bivol could make better money if he will fight Canelo again, forget about the title, it will come for him because he is already a champion.

In their previous fight, Canelo made $40 million while Bivol was guaranteed with a $2 million purse, so I think in a rematch, his share will better, maybe 60/40 of the total revenue.

source

Never thought that Bivol's purse was this low. Apart from the guaranteed purse of $2 million, Bivol was promised a share of the PPV revenue. But recently he made a statement claiming that he hasn't received any money from the first or second components (the reason is that Bivol is a Russian citizen, and although he is not directly sanctioned, there are restrictions on transferring money to Russian citizens from the United States). Canelo walked away with 70% of the PPV revenue, despite the loss. And as you mentioned, the total amounts to around $40 million.

I don't think he is overrated though, he has work very hard to where he is right now. But maybe there could be arguments that his division is sort of weak that's why he was able to clean and up and it seems that everyone is intimidated by him, but not Bivol though. But now it has gone, he is beatable after all by a boxer that has the mentally to fight him in his own style. GGG almost give Canelo his second lost, but we all know what happen, the judges in both fight screw him.

Canelo can still fight even if he losses to GGG. But he needs to beat a good name fighter to have his name still at the top. Possible that the rematch with Bivol, promoters will have to milk him because they know he still has a lot of fans.

Of course, Canelo Alvarez can still fight even if he losses to GGG. Losing to GGG doesn't mean it's now the end of his boxing career. I doubt Dmitry Bivol's camp will still be interested in taking the challenge from Canelo. There's no Title at risk and Bivol wants to add some title to his career. Canelo should go back to his comfort weight class and fight those top on the ranking there.

Until Canelo doesn't have any title at stake, Bivol will just ignore him for a rematch. But first, he needs to win against GGG. He won't stand a chance at Bivol again if he won't be able to beat the old and veteran GGG.

I can imagine that Bivol was sleeping good after that fight while Canelo was still frustrated by the result and certainly he's having a trouble sleeping for some days. He totally made Canelo as an additional trophy in his record, and certainly, that will open new doors for him because he managed to defeat the pound-for-pound king.

If they will pursue some rematch then Bivol's cut will be much greater this time as Canelo is more interested in him than the other way around.
You could really see the frustration on Canelo which it is likely that they would be having some rematch which I do already anticipate neither after this trilogy or unsettled business between GGG although this isn't still assured but high chances that it could really happen but for now it should really be settled first before anything else or plan in the future.I do somewhat agree on some people saying that Canelo is overrated and there are several boxers which is really much more better than him.We know that you can't win forever where time comes that prime days would be over.
