Canelo can still fight even if he losses to GGG. But he needs to beat a good name fighter to have his name still at the top. Possible that the rematch with Bivol, promoters will have to milk him because they know he still has a lot of fans.

Of course, Canelo Alvarez can still fight even if he losses to GGG. Losing to GGG doesn't mean it's now the end of his boxing career. I doubt Dmitry Bivol's camp will still be interested in taking the challenge from Canelo. There's no Title at risk and Bivol wants to add some title to his career. Canelo should go back to his comfort weight class and fight those top on the ranking there.

Until Canelo doesn't have any title at stake, Bivol will just ignore him for a rematch. But first, he needs to win against GGG. He won't stand a chance at Bivol again if he won't be able to beat the old and veteran GGG.
If Canelo lost against GGG we may actually get to see a fourth fight among them as they will be tied after three fights, however Canelo will lose a lot of prestige if this was the case as the whole point of fighting GGG again is to build up his prestige after his defeat against Bivol, and if he lost against an old GGG then he will lose prestige instead of earning it.

And about Bivol, even if Bivol right now seems to be interested in fighting for yet another belt we must not forget professional boxers also fight for money, and I have little doubts his fight against Canelo was the fight which made him the most money, so I do not think he will be against a rematch if it is ever proposed to him.

Bivol could make better money if he will fight Canelo again, forget about the title, it will come for him because he is already a champion.

In their previous fight, Canelo made $40 million while Bivol was guaranteed with a $2 million purse, so I think in a rematch, his share will better, maybe 60/40 of the total revenue.

That is already one sign that LHW is not for him, so we don't know why they decided to face Bivol, a young and pure 175 lbs and a champion at that division.

Canelo is on the purpose to face every champions at a much higher weight class that's why he decided to moved up. He also achieved being the undisputed champion and what's next to his career is to dominate the upper weight class but he failed defeating Dmitry Bivol.

Everyone thinks that Canelo won't lose at this point of his career but Bivol make it possible. Canelo even warned that he should not go straight for a rematch with Bivol or else the same result will happened.

I'm just wondering if GGG will beat Canelo here, what's next for Canelo? A rematch with Bivol won't be happened.

I guess Manny Pacquiao setting the trends, going up in weight as high as 154 lbs if I'm not mistaken and then winning 8 belts. the advantage of Manny though is that he started at smaller weight that's why he has good chance of growing. As compare to Canelo who is already huge in the first place, started at 147 lbs, but settled in the 154 lbs to 168 lbs. Then going up as high as 175 lbs but as others said, everyone has his limits.

Canelo can still fight even if he losses to GGG. But he needs to beat a good name fighter to have his name still at the top. Possible that the rematch with Bivol, promoters will have to milk him because they know he still has a lot of fans.

I beg to disagree, sure Bivol have some similarities with GGG but that doesn't include their ethnicity and nationality because Dmitrii Bivol is a Russian boxer while Gennady Golovkin is a Kazakhstani boxer and both of their parents neither came from the same place or country. Along with their similarities is that they both speak the language of Russia and Kazakhstan. Anyway, enough of their background, let's focus first with this trilogy as Canelo is yet to decide soon if he will indeed pursue a rematch with Bivol after this fight.

OK.. Let me give a few details:

1. For both Golovkin and Bivol, on the fathers side they are European (Golovkin's father is ethnic Russian, while Bivol's father is ethnic Moldvin)
2. On the mother's side both of them are ethnic Korean
3. Both Bivol and Golovkin were born in central Asia (Golovkin was born in the city of Karaganda in Kazakhstan, while Bivol was born in Tokmak, Kyrgyzstan).
4. Both of them started their boxing career in Central Asia
5. Both Golovkin and Bivol speak Russian as the first language (in addition, Golovkin speak Kazakh, Russian and English)

Just a few fun facts. That said, I never claimed that Golovkin's boxing style has any similarity with that from Bivol.

I still remember the fight against Bivol, I really can't believe it, the Russian is quite a machine, and I think this event triggered many Canelo fans who no longer want to watch his fights because they don't think they have the same emotion, I think. that there could be a lot of emotions if GGG and Canelo had happened long before the fight with Bivol, I think the magic is not the same now, personally I was one of those who wanted that fight to happen, now I don't know, anymore I don't want to, why? rather Inoue is the most sought-after boxer for now, by force of pure knockouts he has earned a great position.

I already posted this once. Bivol has so many similarities with Golovkin (in terms of ethnic background and nationality). And I am sure that this guy has enough talent to become a legend like GGG or Mayweather in the future. I hardly heard about him before his fight with Canelo, but he was amazing to watch. I am eagerly looking forward to his next fight, which is rumored to be against Joshua Buatsi. Canelo vs Bivol 2, if I am not wrong will be staged sometime in mid-2023. But both the fighters need to win their next match, in order to set up this fight.

I agree, there's not much of a similarities between the two, both maybe are used to the old and traditional way of Eastern European boxing, but that's it.

Still depends on the outcome of this fight, if Canelo won, then he will go and wanted to get his revenge against Bivol. That is if he is willing to still go to light heavyweight because it affected his style and power with that additional weight. Maybe a catch weight of 170 lbs but Bivol can't go down that low.

But yeah, let's wait first, his hands are full here against his rival GGG.

Aside from Bivol being huge, he's more comfortable at his own division while Canelo was indeed struggling at that weight class. About their power, I'd say they're somehow equal and fair. In the past, he's looking to move at cruiserweight, right? And that didn't materialized as he definitely know that he is just a somebody at that division.

Canelo Alvarez already beaten a boxer the same as Dmitry Bivol weight class that's why I think he is not struggling at Cruiserweight class. It's just that Dmitry Bivol play the right tactics that beat Canelo. Only few believes that Bivol will win that fight but he did still win because of being patient and calm. He destroys Canelo's gameplay by make the latter pissed off and that destroys his focus.

GGG knows how to handle Canelo and I'm sure he also watched how Canelo got beaten badly by Bivol. He will combined those tactics to stop Canelo turning into a focus beast like what Bivol did.

I'm sure GGG still has lots of left in the tank but just having difficulty now to performed it 100%.
You mean LHW? 175 lbs? And that is Kovalev, Canelo face him when Kovalev was no longer in his prime. But Canelo admitted that it was a very hard fight for him and that is also the reason he moved down to 168 lbs and didn't defend the belt at 175 lbs. That is already one sign that LHW is not for him, so we don't know why they decided to face Bivol, a young and pure 175 lbs and a champion at that division. And maybe that is the last time that we will see him LHW. the perfect division for him is the SMW.

That can be right as we don't know yet what would be Canelo's next move after he's finished with GGG but the way I see it, he will go for Bivol again to settle his score, he may be the challenger but he needs it to regain his name after that defeat. It cannot be denied that Canelo's name and hype has been affected after that so avoiding a rematch will not restore him as it will be clear that he can't go and defeat boxers in Light-heavyweight and Segey Kovalev will be his only trophy in the said division.

It is also possible that Canelo would try to redeem his honor and try to get back at Bivol. But the way I see it, that would be a futile plan. If I were Canelo, I'd rather face somebody who is much more popular and would be much more profitable to fight against but would be an easier opponent.

Bivol was too huge and too strong for Canelo. I also thought that Canelo could handle him because he already had knocked out a man of a similar weight before. But then if we take a look at Kovalev and compare him to Bivol. Kovalev was on his way down when he was faced with Canelo. Bivol was still a young and undefeated fighter when he defeated Canelo. They were of the same age and on top of their careers.

It is possible, yes, but I think we know Canelo enough that his motive in this industry was not to get an easy opponent even if it's profitable. I say he would go at his limit to have his own legacy and the money will follow anywhere he goes as any fight he would get will be full packed as well as PPV revenue's that he could make.

i am also not thinking that after fighting with ggg, his next aim is a rematch with bivol. i believe that was not on the table before. but we knew that he had a contract to fight GGG even before his bivol's fight. because their trilogy is like finishing the unfinished business.
as GGG is the underdog with this upcoming fight, it will be a good motivation for him to beat Canelo. also, he had seen the bivol's fight so he has idea on where to poke Canelo to beat him. the odds are good if some of you here are going for GGG.

As I previously posted, it was reported Canelo reached an agreement to fight Bivol plus two more fights in 2022 in exchange for $160 million.

The fight against Bivol was already done and next on the line is GGG. I'm not sure who's the 3rd one and I doubt they can insert that fight until the end of the year. Maybe the best logical guess is after GGG, the third fight on Canelo's schedule on that $160M agreement will be on 1Q of 2023.

After finishing that whole year's agreement, the rematch will Bivol will now take place although I doubt if Bivol will still accept the challenge of Canelo.

It was Eddie Hearn advised as well that Canelo should skipped with the Bivol rematch and go with a trilogy with GGG. Maybe they think that Canelo's chances is higher since GGG is old enough and that Canelo will regain back his glory if he defeated his archfoe. And then go for Bivol rematch next year in May in Bivol is willing to give him the rematch. And it boils down to the offer, if they gave offer more than the first fight, maybe he is willing to give Canelo a rematch.

Not sure how many fights did Canelo sign with Matchroom and Eddie Hearn, maybe 3-4 fights I reckon. So maybe it was a good advised to fight GGG first, the money is there and Canelo could have made more money than having a rematch fight with Bivol and the chance for him to lose back to back is high. So good call for them. It's easy to book Canelo's fight next year so I agree that it might take place 1Q of 2023 for the Bivol fight.

I'm not even sure if Canelo is really interested to have a rematch against Bivol. I think he'd be more interested to face much smaller opponents with equal or even bigger paychecks next time. In their fight, even if it was so close it almost ended in a draw in the official scorecards of the judges, it was very clear that Canelo was having a really hard time hitting, much more hurting, Bivol. He simply couldn't handle Bivol.

That can be right as we don't know yet what would be Canelo's next move after he's finished with GGG but the way I see it, he will go for Bivol again to settle his score, he may be the challenger but he needs it to regain his name after that defeat. I feel it will be better even though moreover this is a trilogy that cannot be separated later but if you look at Bivol it is clear that for now the strength of Russian fighters cannot be underestimated.
Canelo should know that because the memories with Bivol are still warm and he will definitely remember this and now that another Russian fighter has appeared again I don't think it's a good thing if he doesn't underestimate him.
Russian fighters now have a tough condition especially mentally but this is precisely what makes them stronger.

After the fall of the legendary and future Hall of Fame Nonito Donaire from the hands of a much younger Naoya Inoue, I can see GGG is next. Although GGG has better odds than Donaire, I still believe the latter has the better chances of winning due to his power and he did hurt Inoue during their first fight. Canelo Alvarez already took GGG's best shots for 24 rounds. Now GGG is old and slower, I really really doubt he can outbox nor hurt Canelo Alvarez. Canelo Alvarez will stop GGG this time. Watch out on boxers entering their mid 30's as their bodies will start to decline (Lomachenko and Crawford).
How about on how Canelo performed or fight against Bivol? You could really still see that sloppy punches from Canelo which i do even see that those things are just the same with GGG. Cheesy
Fighting out Murata was still considerable but of course there would be some huge changes.

You could actually make out some differentiation between the two but i would still go for GGG on this one. There's no doubt on Canelo's power but
withstanding it wont really be that much of an issue.

Names like David Benavidez, one of the Charlo twins or even Arthur Beterviev's name has been popping up as potential fight for Canelo in the future.

Of course, this boxers are also going to look for more money in the shortest possible time. They know that they can't box  and they have this prime years. After that it's all downhill for them. So they hav to take advantage and squeeze as much money as they can for them and for their future (wife, kids, business etc).

Canelo has to win this fight first before he will entertain a challenger because if he loses again, that will decrease his value in the market and I don't know if he can still get big fights, maybe GGG will shine and will have big fights than Canelo. So with that said, Canelo has to win this fight because he is still in his prime years while GGG is already in his retirement age.

Even if he has back to back losses, I think he can still have a good fight. But it's just the question of money involved because for sure his stock will go down. Those guys mentioned as just waiting in the fold and wanted to join the Canelo sweepstakes. Just like when Manny where in the declined of his career, still commands the respect and of course he can bring fans to watch his fight even though he has some losses in the past. I think this will likely happen to Canelo if ever GGG beat him. Have some good fights along the way, and fighters still wanting to test themselves against him. Young fighters like Charlo and Benavidez.

We love this two fighters, but after the second fight, it seems that Canelo head and ego grow big as he doesn't want to give GGG his trilogy. But finally, it was set already so again, emotions are going to run high between the two fighters as GGG said that he won both fights and then chase Canelo for many years.

Who will resist expected big money in return just to accept the call of everybody to do a trilogy with GGG? Smiley

Before the fight with Bivol, it was reported that Canelo reached an agreement to fight Bivol plus two more fights in 2022 in exchange for $160 million.

That was just for 1-year fighting and that was an insane amount already that Canelo will surely bag this year, I think regardless of the result. We just don't how much specifically he will earn with the trilogy. That money figure that Canelo expectedly to receive this year alone, contributes to his status as one of having the highest net worth in sports.

That amount is already huge, more than enough for his retirement.
But he has a long way to go to his retirement phase.
Canelo is favored on this match, so the pressure is real.
He should show us a different Canelo here and have a very worthwhile match.

Yes, that amount is already huge enough to cover his expenses for his along with his beloved family but that money is still not enough and he will still get more because we know that Canelo can still dance will in the ring and he is still at the peak of his prime, that said, $160 Million is just a small amount compared to what he could bag in the coming years.

I'm just curious though, @goinmerry said, that said figure was paid to him in-exchange to fight Bivol and other 2 fights. Who's the 3rd boxer? As we all know, Bivol and GGG were the ones who established the fight this year, so there could be a 3rd fight for Canelo this year after September? I'm curious about that.

Well.. that is also true. Golovkin is now 40 years old. Canelo should have agreed to the trilogy fight in 2019 or 2020. He delayed the fight without any real reason apart from the fear of losing. But even now, it is not going to be easy for Canelo. All that said, the chance of Golovkin winning by KO is next to zero. It is going to be either KO win for Canelo, or a win for either of the sides based on majority decision. And when it comes to latter, Canelo will always have an advantage since the match is taking place in the United States.

Why fighting in United States gives Canelo an advantage over Golovkin? You think because Canelo lives there currently and GGG lives in Kazakhstan? Long time ago GGG has moved to Germany, and I had faced numerous articles claiming he lives both in Stuttgart Germany and Santa Monica US. GGG has same huge army of fans all around the world, and I am sure the venue they will fight, will be crowded by his people, similar to Canelo fans. You would be amazed how GGG is popular in Kazakhstan and how people support him. He wont feel like a visitor during this fight, definitely.

If you have watched the first two fights, then you should know.  Grin

I was closely following the live scorecards from sports channels and all of them had GGG ahead by a large margin before the official results were announced. Even CNN Sports had Golovkin ahead. But when the final results announced, it ended as a draw. Dave Moretti (whom I consider one of the best judges ever) scored the match 115-113 for Golovkin, while Don Trella had a scorecard of 114-114. Then shockingly Adalaide Byrd had a scorecard of 118-110 in favor of Canelo. I was astounded by the scorecard from Byrd. She was definitely not watching the same match that others were watching.

Ohhh... You have meant judges...I though you were talking about "at home even walls help" Cheesy Like it always easier to perform at home, because the fans, the crowd is always for your (however that did not work in a fight against Bivol). Yeap, judging was a disaster. Byrd perhaps was in love for Canelo and scored him as a dominant fighter that evening Cheesy Also To all of the boxing critics, boxing fans, the NSAC and most of all GGG, I am truly sorry for misjudging the fight and after I was able to. Glad she realizes she had screw up. Since that, she hasnt judged big fights anymore.

As far as her boxing a boxing judge I think she quit something after her disastrous scoring and has been criticized up to this day. So it ruined her reputation.

I guess the judges in this fight won't be biased as that time Canelo was really the pound for pound and yeah, maybe Adelaide Byrd was at awe at Canelo. The judges has not been announced yet, but again, they should get a judge that has the reputation already and has a history of being fair and scoring the fight right because this is one of the best fight for this year and it might be close again.

as GGG is the underdog with this upcoming fight, it will be a good motivation for him to beat Canelo. also, he had seen the bivol's fight so he has idea on where to poke Canelo to beat him. the odds are good if some of you here are going for GGG.

It cannot be denied that Canelo's name and hype has been affected after that so avoiding a rematch will not restore him as it will be clear that he can't go and defeat boxers in Light-heavyweight and Segey Kovalev will be his only trophy in the said division.
