Interesting fight. I believe the odds are at par or nearly even. Both are undefeated and Rey Vargas is also a former champion. Rey Vargas has the world level of experience, he is technically the better fighter and is a 12 round fighter. The defending champion Mark Magsayo is a real featherweight so he might be the bigger fighter, he will have the power advantage and the heart.

But I actually do not like this fight happening in Texas. It will sound like Rey Vargas is fighting in front of his home crowd. And Texas has the worst boxing commission in the US. Hopefully Laurence Cole is not the referee.

Magsayo needs a knockout or at least dominate the fight clearly by scoring knockdowns or hurt Vargas in order to diminish its superior boxing skills.

Magsayo has the advantage in terms of raw power but Vargas experience will give him a hard time landing that solid direct hit to bring down to canvas this Mexican fighter. This fight is very exciting to watch since both of them have a record to protect.

This is true, Magsayo has to learn how to do the right timing as he cannot just rely on his power all the time. There are technical boxers that are hard to beat, they are quick and very smart in the ring, so if Magsayo does not improve, he has no chance to win once the fight is decided by the judges.

This is what I'm afraid of in this match, Vargas is very good on getting points while Magsayo wants a blow-by-blow fight which might be his weakness if Vargas gets an early score lead while Magsayo attempt to recover and start chasing his opponents until he gave some opening for Vargas to gave him one solid punch. Mexican boxers on Featherweight are very good at scoring-type games. The game will be in favor with Vargas if Magsaya don't manage to give him an early damage to slow him down.
That's the weakness of Magsayo, he is not a complete fighter, he has the power but in terms of techniques, he is still not that good. Actually, I am seeing this fight as the biggest challenge of Magsayo so far in his boxing career, and I'm afraid he will lose if he will not make an adjustment.

Perhaps it's an area that he needs to improved, he is under Freddy Roach so for sure he knows it and try to mitigate by teaching his pupil to improved. Manny was just like that in the beginning, all left. But Roach turns him into a beast, developing a lead right or right hook that knock down many of his opponents. So let's see if he can also developed and become a multi dimensional fighter in the process.

Natural if you have full faith in Mark Magsayo to be able to defend his belt next month, his boxing abilities make him one of the future Filipino boxers who may be the successor to pacquaio, a unanimous victory over Gary Russell made him the rightful holder of the WBC belt at this time this, but I think before you bet your money on that fight, better for you to look back at the statistics that Rey Vargas has so far, I think in this case Rey Vargas has a better record than Magsayo except he is younger and that's what why do I see if Vargas will win the match later by KO.
Mark Magsayo is indeed predicted to be the future boxer of the Philippines or the next pacquaio. sharp eyes in reading the movement of the opponent's punch made him a boxer who was able to give difficulties to the opponent when he wanted to land the right punch. The reach of the hand and the ingenuity in providing resistance at the corner of the ring deserves to be appreciated for Mark Magsayo. I think Pacquaio will be the training tactics teacher for the rest of the time before this game starts. I'm sure Vargas will have a hard time against Mark Magsayo in his defense of his first WBC featherweight title.
+1 of course, I would really like Magsayo to be Pacquiao's successor, but this time he doesn't have as much kindness as Pacquiao has, I was really disappointed in Pacquiao's fight against Mayweather, it was a fight where he Filipino if he had changed his strategy he would have won, if he knew that they were going to run him in the ring he should have stayed put, used his experience because he has more experience than Mayweather and he would have expected it, since in the technical aspect Pacquiao could have done better Of course, the fight would have been twice as boring, but I'm sure if Mayweather had lost he would have asked for a rematch.

Just trust Magsayo. Once the fight happened, he will show what he really got. This is his first title defense and Vargas is a big fish as a challenger. He will not let any challenger dominate him. Less than a month to go now, Magsayo is surely excited to take the win on his first title defense as a WBC Featherweight champion.
To defend the WBC Featherweight champion is more difficult than winning it from other boxers, Magsayo has to go through strong challenges against undefeated challengers, it is not easy for him to finish the match for Knock Out results or victory for absolute points, so Magsayo must extra practice to increase his stamina to dominate ability of the opponent.

Weakness? I think we can't call it that way. If he is not that good, he should not be wearing the WBC Featherweight title today.

Maybe the best term for that is he is good but for sure has more to show off. He is under the watch of Freddie Roach and for sure, slowly but surely Magsayo is gaining more techniques and strategies day by day.

That's just normal and maybe he will cross on that scenario in the fight but I believe in him that he got this fight, he surely won't give an easy minute to Vargas as this is his first title defense. Magsayo have that weakness but what makes me interested in him is that he's learning at the fight and he will make some adjustments so that he won't be at the disadvantage side. He know that because Vargas is much more experienced than him but Magsayo is smarter.

When a boxer has a reach disadvantage against his opponent, he need to put his opponent into the corner so his opponent can't run away and force him to play toe to toe. If Magsayo is smart enough, he can play a counter punch like Tank did against Rolly, Rolly trying to punch Tank really hard with his right hand while his left hand didn't cover his face. The thing is the Tank's counter punch isn't hard, it's just really clean and enough to knock down Rolly.

That's good, at least we all know that he is not afraid of a challenge, he can fight the best challenger to prove that he really deserved the belt despite some criticism by the fans that are not fully convinced with his win. It's his first title defense, hopefully, he will be able to deliver an impressive win, something that will stun the crowd and will let them talk about his performance.
When fellow boxers who are undefeated will fight in a boxing ring then all rounds will end with an impressive ending because many punches are attacking each other rather than defending, both will show each other abilities with different strategies to knock out opponents, but based on their abilities, Magsayo could be superior for boxing skills.
That actually depends on the boxer, why? because there are some undefeated who are not really throwing a lot of punches, they are more of a defensive type and don't waste their energy on getting toe to toe, one classic example is Floyd Mayweather Jr., he has retired from boxing already but people get bored every time he fights although he was undefeated.

I agree, yes, it's a wrong premise to assume just because two undefeated boxers are going to face each other that there will be a knockout. Although this two has an impressive knockout percentage, this fight might go to the judges hands. Maybe there will be knock downs along the way, but both are aware of each other's power and might cover up in some rounds to avoid getting hit by a big and unexpected punch.

Agree on this besides, Rey Vargas most K.O winning matches are from those of his early career matches while his latest matches always result to decision on the other hand, Mark Magsayo has a huge K.O percentage base on his recent matches so this will really gonna result to decision since Vargas game usually to get points as much as possible. Magsayo has the advantage in terms of raw power but Vargas experience will give him a hard time landing that solid direct hit to bring down to canvas this Mexican fighter. Both have huge punch power and it might be their ace to beat their opponent and whoever can take punches will gonna be the most dominant since he can throw some counter without worrying about the consequences. Unlike faster boxers with recently watched, this one is a strategic fight where they will gonna gauge each other strength first then go for the clash in the later rounds, and the one who will gonna drain fast will be the one to fall down.

Both are still undefeated champions in their records but different Magsayo has to defend his title otherwise he will lose the title and 1 record loss in his boxing history, Magsayo has to prepare the remaining time for hard training because he faced Rey Vagas with boxer history without defeat, so whatever the result will damage the reputation of the undisputed champion of one career boxer to one record defeat and I don't think the match will end in a draw.

Magsayo already understands the stake in this fight. Since this will be his first title defense as a WBC Featherweight Champion, I'm sure he's not even pressured but rather excited about this match. He is surely preparing for some strategies he can use in that fight.

Vargas is a good pick for this title defense. One of the best in Magsayo's league. I hope the fight will be close and be decided in a Knock Out win.

That was more entertaining to watch although others like a dominant performance by Magsayo to have a convincing win.

Mark Magsayo agreed to face Rey Vargas in his first title defense as a champion because he himself knew that the latter could give him the experience he needed along the way and as he continues to carve his in name in this industry. I believe on Magsayo's talent, no pressure but he know that he should be successful in this fight.

I think they have to accept this fight though, not sure if Vargas is mandatory or not, but they know that he is very dangerous opponent and the risk is very high. Nevertheless, they know the stake here, if ever Magsayo wins and if it will be a knock out or even a close one, in a war, he will be more recognizable. But if the worst happen, if he lose, I think Mark can still bounce back as he is still very young. The risk is high but the reward is also good for him if ever he win.

Magsayo should be more prepared defending a title is really a tough challenge to every champion, one mistake will be leading you to ruin your career, it's a needed win to bring more hypes to his name and to challenge other big names from his division, I also agree that the man is excited in his upcoming fight, it's indeed a hard one since Vargas is also an experienced fighter and also eager to make his presence in his new chosen division, he will give tough fight for sure to Magsayo.
