buying ico and trading are risk. but if you buy or invest in high quality ico and have escrow on their crowdsale may be you have a better chance go get profit. high qualitity ico give you more lowerst risk than trading.
I agree with you, ICO is an attempt to make a new coin competing in Crypto World. only a lot of people who make ICO are not qualified. We just have to carefully choose a good and serious project to create a new potential coin.

Nowdays there is not much ICO which cheated their investors because most of people are smart enough to choose which good ICO and not. ICO will be only more profitable than trading when the price rising more than ICO price.

In my opinion buying a token from the ICO is more risky than trading. Because in ICO, we don't know what will happen with the project in future and there is no guarantee that the ICO will success as the dev and teams want.
But if we are trading then we have big chance to big profit although we can get loss too. And if we are loss, if we still holding the coin and only wait for next increasing price then the chance is always big but we don't how long wr have to wait.

Your right with that since ICO's are prone to get dump when they will be listed on its respectable exchange since there are bounty hunters will kill it, But if you bought yours whenever they offered a 50% or even larger bunos I think it is still profitable but you need to act faster so that you will be the one who early to sell yours before those hunter will came first to drop there balance off.

You would be profitable if the price would really rise up specially on its ICO price but expected usually on this kind of this on which after a coin been listed on exchange expect for a sudden decrease of price because bounty hunters will surely dump their stashes once it is live on exchanges to secure profits this is the risk and possibilities of price to recover up again wont be a guarantee.On trading prices is really unpredictable which it would be hard to determine on what spots we would go in.

What do you mean by more risky? Which is more risky to get scammed when we are buying from ICO or exchange sites? Of course buying during ICO has bigger risk than on exchange site. If you aren't lucky, you will get scammed if the dev run away with your and investors money. But there is also advantage if you are buying from ICO, you can buy more with cheaper price.
I think both of those things have the same risk and do not have different places. because of the nature of the world cryptocurrency have the same thing wherever it belongs. but to the question of profit, I would be much more leaning into ICO although it could just be that doesn't match expectations.
