Which is more risky buying a token from the ICO or in trading?

Both have the same risk, everyone knows that. If you buying token from ICO maybe you have low price but sometimes that coin become dump, survive on real market that's another story. Trading also has risk, when you choose the wrong coin or take decisions ( buy/ sell/ hold ), you'll get loss. Before try something you must understand the risk and also how to face it. But for me, trading has more risk than buying token. You can rich in minutes but you can poor in second. Hope you have the best option to take.

If the ICO is good the profit is huge! You can make a million in no time! Alt coins are risky also, for example peercoin.. are low profit vs ICOs
My personal view, is better to study well an ICO and get token than trading an altcoins.

I think more risky is buying token from iCO. Because if you buy token you dont know what will happen to the project or to the coin you bought they have possiblity did not list to the exchanges site or you do not know what the dev purpose. Trading is less risky because you can trade your coin anytime you want because they are tradable. But invesying In ICO can earn a lot of profit than buying a ciin who are in the trading site.

if you have no prior experience then both of them are highly risky. because you wouldn't know what to do and what to choose

if you have some experience the trading becomes the least risky of all. but ICO will remain always risky because it is always going to be unpredictable territory and the crypto-sphere is filled with scams that are trying to earn some quick money from people who try investing in them.

Which is more risky buying a token from the ICO or in trading?

Both are equally at risk.

If you buy tokens from ico many risks will happen.
Token price in the market is far below ico price, the old distribution, just go to small exchanger or plan to enter to exchanger for so long, especially if we choose wrong project then we will game over.

Trading today is very difficult to guess and analyze, sometimes the results of our analysis is not appropriate and miss far.

All jobs have risks, we must be smart in choosing the action. Now the decision is in your hands. Hopefully we all have good luck  Cheesy Cheesy

Trading is risky and so is ICO tokens but there is a big difference to the two.
If I were you and I got a lot of spare money I would choose to buy coins from the ICO.
The potential are really large now considering investors are coming all over it.
The best part is they made sales and bonuses from pre-sales and that is where you will buy the coins to maximize the profit.
I do trading before but it requires great patience for waiting unlike with ICO. When the coin is out you could sell it all without regret because the profits are good.

Basically I think that the ratio between risk and profit is similar.

For ICOs the risk to loose money is higher but lastly the right ICO brings much more profit.

Therefore I would say that it is better if you evaluate thoroughly which ICO to invest in and hit it.

All the best

More risky if you buy tokens at ICO. The risk is when the ICO ends and has entered the market the value could be far from the price of ICO. It is very damaging to your money, and also one way to get a profit from buying tokens at ICO by waiting until a long time a good price when a few months after ICO is a good time to sell it.

IMO, wait for a few days until the coin is listed in the exchanges and then buy at market price. I have noticed that many of the ICOs now are extremely over-priced. Within the first 2-3 days of listing, most of these coins lose as much as 90% or 95% of their value. If you are very confident about some ICO, then no issue in making an investment. Else, please buy the coins from the exchanges.

Which is more risky buying a token from the ICO or in trading?

For me i think ICO is more risky than trading because Initial Coin Offering is still not established as a coin and we still do not know how it will goes when registered in exchanges. Maybe it would depends on the supporters of that particular ICO so we must think many times before investing other wise it will be a gamble.

Obviously when trading on an exchange, the coin has been launched already so you get to have more information on its progress and its reception by the market. Plenty of ICOs do turn out to be duds though -- I have been thinking about participating in ICOs and started by making a chart of all ICOs talked about on the ICO alert podcast, at the ICO price vs current price -- most are below the ICO price, even though you may hear more about the ones that do well. Bancor for example -- ICO at 0.01 ETH, now ~0.008 ETH. Honestly if a coin is good you should be able to make a good profit even buying it after the ICO.

One must be careful and do the research, although sometimes just how "hot" an ICO is may be an indication of whether the price will pop once trading begins, if you're looking for short term gains -- this is similar to the IPO dynamic in the traditional finance world where institutional investors would get in on the hot deals before retail investors have a chance if only to flip and sell it right after (coming from someone that worked at several hedge funds -- some PMs would get in on hot deals just because they can, even if they don't like the stock fundamentally) -- some ICOs are exactly the same way, like decentraland, with larger/institutional investors getting in before retail investors get a chance.

Something else to be careful of is to beware of IOUs -- these are traded on HitBTC after an ICO but before tokens are released -- you're not actually buying the tokens in that case, but an IOU of the token -- price can become very inflated there from low volume, and can drop significantly after trading actually begins.

Either trading with altcoins or buying from ico, both are full of possiblity of loss.
If you ask for my opinion,i rely on dealing with both. If you devote time and keep attention acquiring crypto knowledge, you will better know when to bypass risk of losses.
Just you need to analyze situation of market occassionally for a confident profit return

Which is more risky buying a token from the ICO or in trading?
In my opinion ICOs is more risky then trading at exchange because ICOs are those things which sell thier coins before the launching , so probably may be there can be chances that after the buy of the ICOs coin they launch after a long time of 3-4 month or even more time.
Here i myself bought solar coin about 3 months ago and you can see what happened wity that coin and taked much longer time to get launch .
And also here i can give you example of yes coin that get launched after a more long time , so we can guess accurately that ICOs coin how mich time needed to get launch but still if anyone want to buy and again sell then he can by selling to anyone who want buy .
So trading at exchange directly is more simple than with ICOs coin buy sell .

It completely depends. If the ICO is getting alot of attention due to it having good technology in it or maybe having a star-studded development team, then ICOs are definitely less risky and more profitable. If you're quite experienced in trading altcoins and you have proper risk:reward ratio management, then definitely trading altcoins.

It just completely depends on what ICO you're investing in and what altcoin you're trading, and how good you are at it.
