Going Cheap: A Cautionary Tale

Crichton didn't wait for the King's announcement of the coming sickness and proceeded to drink and eat well and not think much about what could come. But after a few days, news reached that pestilence had infiltrated the palace walls and the Kingdom was on high alert. Crichton thinking himself young and  healthy decided to meet this challenge with a diet of VEG and MEAD-- Oh, hindsight! Precious, hindsight!

Needless to say that this poor man's diet to make up for the costs of his too early lasciviousness did much of nothing, and he was left with only the earthy goodness of nature's bounty of Wisdom and Understanding to help him fight of the burgeoning sickness....

But what did Crichton do? Did he try the much ballyhooed (yes, that rhymed  Roll Eyes ) AYA that is known to give inter dimensional visions and grant unparalleled visions into souls of men? No, he grabbed his favorite pipe and began to CONSUME the cheapest wisdom he could find. And now Crichton, unable to start with the most potent stores available and grant his health a good base, must sit with his Health Challenge unmet and his hands in the fate God.

MEAT certainly seems to be important. Saddam, Riddick, and Gabriel each consumed 100 MEAT and 100 CAN. Staples of the CK diet. In addition, we also drank W1600M, W1603A, W1609, LAG, and ate some VEG. A couple of us consumed a few CIGs. We all dropped the health challenge down to none with ample amounts of these items, and we all have room left to spare.

Buy CAN!

I've whittled mine down to none, yeah!

Given the warnings others sounded about this not being a 10-VEG affair, I started with a good chunk of 75 MEAT. This got my challenge from severe to, er, severe. Right. Maybe I could have got more. But I tried a bit of varied stuff, including 10 CXO (hmmmm, that was effective), and a number of merely satisfying stuff (50 CAN, 10 W1603W, etc) and effective (100 BEER). The MEAT was actually what gave the best boost - powerful, the rest being a mixture of mostly satisfying, and some effective.

Nearly all I know have managed to press their health challenge to "None". It tells the remaining amount after every consume. You should not worry too much that it takes a long time to get it moving. It is intentional to make it more difficult to decipher the exact healthinesses of each item, and give the nasty uncertainty about how much of the challenge is left and whether to consume good stuff or cheap stuff.

Actually I wrote since this is a major change, it is pretty much the first module that actually makes this resemble a RPG (wow only 13 months since start!!) . I would be happy if the active players could share some of their insights to the less active even here in public. Many haven't lived the rollout of consumable items (that started a good 15 weeks ago, making them very familiar for the active players) and they may seem totally baffling.

Write here to help! Don't worry too much to "give away the secrets", it is certain that you will retain the edge by being more active - and who wants his neighbor to die anyway??!

Zephyrus emerges from the San Pietro cathedral, taking a few steps out in the spring sun.
Sitting down on one of the benches outside, he finishes off a beer and sighs with relief as a young man crosses the street and looks with concern at Zephyrus' apparent exertion.

"Ah, yes, I had one of those problems that age brings. Oh, not as bad as some, that's for sure. Still, it took me by surprise and had me worried till my last beer", Zephyrus says, showing the glass he had just emptied. "Thanks to the Lord's drink, I am good now".

Zephyrus stood up, and the two started walking together. "If you will listen to advice from an elder, there's one thing I can tell you: if you need to eat or drink to stave off ill health, tackle it straight away. When this spell fell on me, I started with a lot of CAN, but then I shirked on the the more expensive MEAT and went back straight to lots of VEG. You'd think those would do good for health, but it took more MEAT after the fact to start making a difference. And that's when you realize you've run through your quota and can't smoke and eat anymore. So, what you gonna do ?"

"Well, I tell you, I downed all the BEER I could find, till I couldn't drink anymore. At once! I still haven't cured it all, mind, but I'm still sitting pretty compared to some older folk. I'm telling you, you've got a good deal at your age. So make the most of it!"

Are taxes and rental/service payouts happening this year? Or is next year going to have this year's taxes and payouts too?

All taxes, dividends and payouts will be charged.

...some time.

Probably it will be postponed because the health challenge delayed those critical days. It is great fun to optimize your health, so let's concentrate on that now Smiley

To make it even more fun, it happened that we will have to survive on our food supplies (all the other supplies are in good order anyway). Town got the meager shipment of VEG and MEAT and that is fully listed for sale now.

There is enough food for all, almost 3x the need. It's just the allocation... Please consider selling your VEG after you are done consuming it, since it will spoil once we get the spoiling script made (1616 earliest).

Remember if your game age is advanced, it means your health challenge can be brutal, and if you waste your quota drinking beer, it is too late to drink cognac.

Health Challenge is now part of the Game

The Duke of North Face sat in his palace and felt an uneasiness he hadn't felt since.....  the plague!  With this feeling, he ordered his Butler to check the inventory of items to determine how he might decide to ease these feelings - wondering if the same treatment for the plague would work this time around, he ordered a stash of his RME he obtained from his expedition and consumed 10 on the spot.  The feeling was not the same as previously - just "effective".  It looks like this may require some work!

Maybe some old wine from 1603 would do the trick - I ordered 25 of W1603A and consumed.  This effect was Powerful  Alas my health still needed help!

Maybe some food and other items may do the trick!

Health Challenge is now part of the Game

The Health Challenge will start now. We live the year 1615, and are subject to the difficulties of life. Health Challenge means that your health will degrade in the end of year by a certain number of points unless you decide to Eat, Drink and use Wisdom substances in a healthy way.

All edibles (FOOD), drinkables (DRI) and wisdomables (UND) have a health value so it is always and everywhere good to consume them. The challenge is, however, to balance the following factors:
- The remainingHealthChallenge is told only approximately as text, even though it is stored as a value.
- You can only consume 200 foods, 200 drinks and 200 wisdom substances.
- You get a bonus for consuming a variety of items, but only the first time of consuming a new item.
- You don't know the item:healthiness values, yet it is not far from truth that more expensive = more potent.
- A bonus will also be given by consuming frequently, meaning approximately every day.

So that this would not lead to carnage, please remember:
- You can always skip smoking and drink spoiled water but food cannot be substituted.
- Older guys may have a Brutal challenge, and this means please tackle it with the serious stuff since the quota will hit you otherwise.
- Health management patients will be treated the best way but those who manage their health themselves are free to do what they want.
- A decent diet for a young commoner should cost <1mil/year.

The command "HEALTH" gives info about the status of your health and remaining health challenge.
The command "CONSUME item_id quantity" lets you consume items.

The full spex with only the tables masked can be found here.

The health challenge ends in the year_change, which is approximately next Sunday, but will not happen without a 24 h advance notice in this thread.

Are taxes and rental/service payouts happening this year? Or is next year going to have this year's taxes and payouts too?

Very nice summary, Syksy! Thank you for putting it up, and keep them coming! There is a lot to showcase in CK. O e portion of it is basically a crypto item exchange... First non-currency system unless I am mistaken.

Once I get to the office I'll send you a token of my appreciation  Smiley

Is graphics version released yet? Can we play this with 2D or 3D graphics?

I believe the browser-based game is open for anonymous open exploring (www.cryptokingdom.me), although public registration is not currently open (to my knowledge, somebody correct me if I'm wrong) as there is still on-going development before people start pouring in. The game is basicly 2D / typical browser-based interface (think early Travian, Tribal Wars, Planetarion, etc). While they do have a concept 3D "building block" node also installed for testing purposes to visualize buildings in a more advanced way, it's not in use yet.

Here's a basic overview of my relatively poor Baron life inside CryptoKingdom (screenshots from Chrome, I cropped my personal info on the tabs and limited the view to the page only):

A view on my character. I own ~1k gold, ~0.2k silver, and 150+ different item types. The land and building amounts are not up-to-date yet.

This is where most of the magic happens: the Agora market. I have sorted items based on their level, and the highest level items are extremely expensive (if for sale at all). For example, the Sword of Mario basicly is not purchasable except by maybe 1 to 3 people in the whole game, so it's more of a cosmetic sale offer. On the other hand, some noble might really want to buy the TRC6-3 noble carriage, which has a sales offer for 250mil moneritos (=250 XMR). Then there are some buy offers, but I'm suspecting nobody is willing to part of their precious Gold Unicorn for a mere 30mil...

A closer look on how Agora works. I picked an arbitrary relatively interesting item, Green Herbs in this case (CAN in short ID). As you can see, there's quite many buy/sell offers. I zoomed out to 50% so that you can see that in the lower parts of Agora you can check out item history, where you could see recent conducted sales of the item in question. You also see that my wallet currently has 10mil moneritos (=10 XMR), and I own 500+ CAN, so I could place a sale offer from here to the "command line"-shown in central part of the screenshot, or maybe buy more since CAN might be important in the upcoming Health challenge.

A 2d-view on the actual map of the north-east Old Town, one of the most central parts in the whole kingdom. The lots on here are either highly occupied, or being sold for only the richest. I chose it because it actually has some relevance to me...

Woo, my very own Baron's house! I chose NE Old Town because this is the only central place in the whole kingdom where I have a valuable building/lot, and I had realistic chances of buying a humble abode. I was recently promoted to Baron status (last week), so I had to put an effort into moving in from my old neighborhood (the swampy Free Lands far to the north), so I purchased this lot. It was quite an investment, given how poor I am in general in comparison to most of the established players.

A view on the transaction log, which is publicly visible to all. As you can see, I've recently sold 9 units of IC (~"imported goods points") to player Avitohol for a total of 1,849,500 moneritos. After that, I've been experimenting with the CONSUME command, drinking 50 units of German white wine produced in year 1613 (=W1613W), and after that eating some Green Herbs (=CAN). This is because of the Health Challenge that is being tested at the moment, which you can read more about in earlier posts.

So that's a brief overview to a Baron's (lower tier noble) everyday life in CK at the moment Smiley

Sorry, the Health Challenge did not make it to 1614, cause that year will change this weekend.

It is now initialized for 1615, and please refrain from consuming items now before getting a primer from me.

The next 12 hours I'll be travelling though but from the Thailand sun I hope to get this module working very soon Smiley

Would be interesting to also hear also about the distribution of CONsols, since there was such excitement about them recently.

Everyone has equal access to view/filter changelog, so this distribution can be easily collected yourself, for instance by checking the latest "DIVIDEND CON M 100000" command, who got the money.

I thought there might be some additional admin analytics tools already available, since for example it wasn't obvious for me how the CKG counts were extracted (don't know the kind of info admins have beyond Agora market view and transaction log). But here's a bit of my output: I plotted the below histogram (along with some quantiles) from the provided output from the dividends. This will obviously miss the people with 0 CONs due to the way the input was extracted; taking the max char ID (mine actually, 138) minus the number of rows from the dividends (26) would indicate (at least) 112 chars/companies are without CONs.

But people (26 total) who have at least 1 CON:

Of people with CONs, ~80% own 6 or more.
Of people with CONs, ~60% own 25 or more.
Of people with CONs, ~half own ~45 or more.
Of people with CONs, ~40% own 77 or more.
Of people with CONs, ~20% own 168 or more.

King is obviously in a league of His own, with the respectable count of 860. I think this gives a better view to the CON distribution, than if I had put x-axis to log-scale. The annual yield from owning CONs is linearly increasing after all, if we ignore any possible changes in the buy/sell value of the CONs themselves.

The histogram was produced using the below R code, where "CONs.txt" is the output from the dividends as copy-pasted from above rpietila's post.
Code:
cons <- read.table("CONs.txt", sep=" ", header=F)
png("CONs.png", width=1000, height=500)
par(mar=c(4,4,1,1))
hist(cons[,"V10"], breaks=100, main="", xlab="Number of CONs", axes=F)
p <- c(0,.2,.4,.5,.6,.8,1)
q <- quantile(cons[,"V10"], probs=p)
nam <- paste(round(p*100, 0), "%")
lapply(1:length(q), FUN=function(z){
abline(v=q[z], col=z, lwd=2)
})
legend("top", legend=c("Quantiles", paste(nam, q, sep=":")), col=0:length(q), bty="n", lwd=2)
axis(1, at=c(0, 25, 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 800), cex.axis=0.6); axis(2)
dev.off()

I'm hoping some time in the future to find the time to build some scripts for automated statistics based on the changelog, but I haven't yet grasped the JS code package that saddam kindly provided earlier. I certainly don't intend to spam the API, but there is a lot of interesting stuff yet to be analyzed.

The Extra Old Cognac Auction

With the health challenge approaching, the necessity of a varied drinks diet is soon going to be moved for the fore once again.

With this in mind, I am auctioning a number of CXO in lots of 12 bottles.
CXO is "Extra Old Cognac", a high end spirit with a delightful 16-18 grading, ranking between Zenon's Silver Water SW2 (16-17) and the old favorite LAG (17-18) - see the WINE tab in https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tgIzgMza7NQsTpMO9pHke1ZVXYH7l5Sj5bHdZHItivo/edit?pli=1#gid=1331016731

Now is your chance to secure your share of this fine spirit.

This auction is for 10 lots of 12 bottles of CXO.
Mooo bids 10mil for the first lot, 14mil for the second, 18 for the third, etc.
As with HM's auctions, the final sale price will be the lowest winning price.
The auction ends at 14:00 GMT, in about 48 hours.

Current state:

46      Mooo
42      Mooo
38      Mooo
34      Mooo
30      Mooo
26      Mooo
22      Mooo
18      Mooo
14      Mooo
10      Mooo
---

10 lots will be sold at 10mil per lot.

Everyone has equal access to view/filter changelog, so this distribution can be easily collected yourself, for instance by checking the latest "DIVIDEND CON M 100000" command, who got the money.

At 9:41 I try....

... what I do is as follows:

1. Log in (as a non-admin)
2. Go to Main Menu item Changelog
3. Filter by item "CON"
4. Realize that CON dividends are not in terms of CON so timeout..
5. Decide that it is worth it to make a probe dividend:
6. Go to any item in Agora to get the command line
7. execute command "DIVIDEND CON M 1" just to see who owns con.
... getting this return message: "3000 units of m is given to 26 players (1, 17, 19, 21, 26, 29, 30, 31, 52, 54, 130, 122, 138, 50, 93, 135, 14, 64, 80, 84, 66, 134, 120, 70, 32, 24)"

8. The changelog for "M" shows the amounts transferred, which agree to the quantity of CON of the players
9. And the list shows as (changelog -> item_type="M" (you find it by typing "mo" in the search field) - show 50 entries):

After copy-paste, the further editing is good to do in spreadsheet. (not doing it right now so don't expect)

Now it is 9:52. Searching stuff from the DB is not that difficult really, another method would have involved a API query script. On the command line, there is currently no simple command that returns the distribution of a given item, nor is it visible in the item view. We will soon implement a tax on spamming the changelog with the commands of the above kind so please employ caution so we don't need to prioritize it.

With a Sum issue of only 3000, and only recently, the distribution is probably pretty concentrated compared to CKG.

Gold distribution

There is (still) 1,000,000 CKG.

16 characters own 10,000+ CKG
54 characters own 1,000-9,999 CKG
17 characters own 100-999 CKG
25 characters own 10-99 CKG
3 characters own 1-9 CKG
17 characters own 0 CKG

I am very satisfied with the distribution that the majority of characters owns 1,000 or more CKG, which is 0.1% of the game, valued at $500 or more!

CKG pays annual dividends about every Sunday. Last week 7,000 m/CKG, which was about 0.6% yield on CKG market value.
